Something needs to be done about Hunts.

So I'm out doing hunts with my Linkshell mates. We find an A rank, I wait for my party to get there, then I pull. The mob dies in about 10 seconds flat. Next thing I know, I'm having profanities shouted at me in /shout. People saying they're blacklisting me and whatnot. All this because I pulled the hunt mark before the entire server got there.

People shouldn't be yelling at other players for pulling the bosses. They should be yelling at SE for giving them only enough HP to last 5 seconds. I shouldn't get yelled at and cursed at for participating in hunts. If the payoff of the system wasn't as good as it is, I'd stop doing them altogether just to avoid getting harassed.

II was just wandering day one, found hellclaw (or something like that) A rank. Sol's about 30% of his hp, got 2 of my ls friends to come out and we killed it. I got marks and seals and whatnot and I haven't even done the hunt quest. Just as people magically started showing up. Did they yell at us? Dunno. I don't pay attention to public chat often. Did it affect me? Nope. Will I be sad if I miss out on one? Nah, it happens.

I don't understand how people find it reasonable to wait for the whole server to get there just so the elite can die in 3~5 seconds and everyone gets 2 seals due to low contribution.

Last night in Mor Dhona there were people yelling at each other in /shout saying they've been sitting around for over 4 hours with their LS and still not a single elite mark kill. That's how crowded the hunts are at the moment. At least on Balmung. This reminds me of notorious monster camping that happened in FFXI. I wasn't a fan of it in FFXI and i'm not a fan of how it's implemented in FFXIV. I think if SE did something like instanced the monsters, or made it into a grouped instance where you have to find the elite marks without knowing exactly where they are and make the fights extremely hard, it might help things. Of course there's many other solutions, I just haven't had time to come up with them. I think how things are now are not good. People on lower population servers are much better off i'm sure though.

It's way crowded on Legacy servers, marks all die in a couple seconds, often you will crash on zoning cause so many people are trying to go to a zone. Too many people trying to do this content.

I wait the global cooldown and animation cycle of my spell/ability to land and claim the mob.
That 2-3 seconds should be enough, I'd think. I mean, what's taking them so long?

Seriously though, not your problem and yes, they need to fix the difficulty level of these things.
They're far too easy and have far too little HP.

Hunts are fine the way they are now, abet a few minor changes.

1.) Add more random B Ranks. Increase full credit Allied Seals to 10.
2.) Increase the HP of A Ranks by 100% and Damage output by 10% and make them wander around some. Increase full credit Allied Seals to 75
3.) Make it so the S Ranks, that once spawned, Walk around the Zone, and Increase S Rank HP by 100% and Damage output by 25%. Increase full credit Allied seals to 175.

With these changes B ranks will be more so for the Solo players, while A ranks will be for the Light to Full Party, and S Ranks for the Alliance.

All the proposed Hp and Dmg changes are rough guesses on what would be a acceptible fix to the problem.

The toxicity of the players is hitting really high levels with these hunts. In one hand, engaging an elite mark on your own and killing it will net you a good chunk of seals and rewards, but you will be deemed a villain and everyone will focus their ire on you. In the other hand, waiting and calling it out spreads the worth too thin, and it just seems to bring an expectation rather than a courtesy.

Everyone is super uptight and paranoid. Wanna see it in action? Get your Magitek Armor with the firing animations and just fire at the elite mark. Someone is going to panic, someone is going to pull it out of reaction, and everyone is gonna tear it down. It's ridiculous what this is doing to people.

I certainly agree that giving it more HP (tons more HP) would help fix some things if you want to spread the rewards around.

If you want a kill, GO F'ING LOOK FOR IT. If you can't be bothered, you don't deserve a kill, end of story.

People keep calling The Hunt "FATEs without markers," but that's only because that's how we're treating them, and what we expect from open-world content.

Contrary to this, I believe B-rank marks are not INTENDED to be shared with the entire server.

There's an expectation here that, just like FATEs, we should all have a chance every time these monsters pop. I don't think that's a fair assessment of the system, and really, the only problem I see is that Naul and other B-ranks simply don't spawn often enough. Early reports are every hour; how about every fifteen minutes? People will stop carrying this "I deserve a kill" mentality when they happen to miss out on an appearance, and patrolling the zone--actually hunting--will be the most rewarding tactic. I certainly never envisioned telling the whole zone in chat when I saw a B-rank monster--that's my kill/luck for encountering it. There just needs to be MORE of them.

The only portion I hate about the HUNT well at most the weekly guy, is that I get credit for killing him in the achievement section, but some odd reason my Mark doesn't give me credit for killing him. That's my only gripe. Please give me the flipping credit for the mark if you're going to say I killed him in the achievement.

OP, don't worry about it. If you find it, you claim it. That's how I feel. I stopped doing them during the day because of this. Some guy pulled Naul when he popped in Coerthas. People blacklisted him and called him out. I don't see why... If you don't get full credit on the kill itself, you won't get the elite credit from what I heard.

I hate the linkshells that have spawned because of the hunt. Yeah it's nice and all but when the whole server shows up to kill a party based NM, it gets stupid fast. You get people who weren't doing anything getting pissed because the person who did the work looking for them claims it before people get there.

.... though I do think some free company on my server are using third party programs to find out where they are. A free company of only 33 people with a max of 10 people on shouldn't be finding them and being at those fights every time.

Just make the A and S marks (party/alliance) bullet sponges with A getting 500k hp and S with 1 mil. B marks solo content i.e you talk to the hunt scholar he give you a hint of its location, you go there and search and it spawns for you and/or your party exclusively. Problem solved.

Yep. This is what's happening. Pretty sure this is the reason parsers were officially made to be against the ToS. Because they do a lot more than parse. Like show the exact location of mobs. Which is pretty convenient when looking for NMs.

It's a shame too. I had fun doing the hunts when nobody was online and only a couple of us were actively hunting.

Now it's the same free company at every mark, usually there first. People totally take the fun out of the game.

Increase seals? If anything we get far too many already. Someone I was talking to has gotten three Sands of time out of it already, and its been two days!

I like The Hunt, I really do. But they've made it horribly OP.

This content is broken. Now that the majority of the server is chasing hunts you don't get kills. They need to give you the ability to spawn these with friends at your own leisure. As it stands this is the worst anti-community, BM, frustrating event introduced.

This is a flat out lie! Right now many are being locked out of doing this content on a regular basis. Even when people are wanting to wait for others you still get minimal or no credit. THIS SYSTEM IS BROKEN. I'm subbed til September as is a lot of my FC and if SE doesn't stop this crazy random content and random rewards many us will be quitting. The Treasure Hunt was a great system! Why not expand on that!??

My bf found the Tonberry earlier today. When it popped, it was us and 2 other people at the monster. In less than a minute, half the server was there. I went ahead and pulled and got yelled at by someone who had just got there after it died for "pre-pulling". If you aren't looking for it, you shouldn't expect everyone to wait for you...

How is it a lie? He's most probably referring to S rank. If he's referring to A rank too, he means 9-16 people, not the whole server of afkers getting the location from a hunt linkshell. People get upset because they show up after it dies and whatnot. Welp, same thing happens to fates. You get credit on what you do. But I'm getting pretty sick and tired of people getting upset because they can't get full credit on an A rank NM with half the server doing one hit each and it die in a matter of two seconds.

I'm sorry but if you find an A-rank NM and you have a party, don't hesitate to claim it and kill it. Some of them actually have fun mechanics that are bypassed by the Zerg that kills it

i would love them to add to the system claim thing. will take off the "please wait for us" thing .. its in SE hand

I don't think there is any pure parsers left...
Some may pretend to be pure by only including the base stuff, but then they also add plugin interfaces, which adds to the problem.

What SE should do is to stop having a full list of mobs available for these "parsers" to read, and bring down the ban-hammer on people that obviously use them with radar plugins.

The thing is, before, there wasn't any real reason to. As long as you weren't giving people grief about their numbers, SE could be a bit more blasé about it with their official stance pretty much being "keep it quiet and everything is fine." However now they have introduced content where the radar is giving people a huge advantage over people playing fair.

Now, they need to start taking this seriously and dish out strict punishment to those using them.

What could help hunts is regardless of damage output players could get a "bait" item that they can use to spawn a unique hunt creature that is a unique fight for up to 8 players much like treasure maps.

Heck maybe to spice it up more "baits" could be found in treasure maps, fates, leves, dungeon chest etc. Expand the concept of Hunts to a grander scale, keep the "timed" spawns as they are but add in unique methods of spawning them, not just a straight up trade x bait to y spot but perhaps having to use x bait in the right spot at the right moment and if you choose wrong guess what you lose that bait and have to try again to figure out the proper method to spawn it.

This is so true. Melt in the East Shroud was a really fun fight when only about ten of us were fighting it, all getting paralyzed and trying to fight through it. I bet there are lots of fun fights, but we won't ever get to see them :(

It could also help if they made them a little more aggressive. I know they don't want level 1 characters getting wiped over and over, but you can stand just a couple of yalms away without aggroing it. Maybe if a hunt party got charged by the mark and was forced into fighting, it could combat the zerg a little.

I have been trying to do mine on Balmung, Naul dies as soon as he is announced and the second we get there he is lagging in and out because of so many and by the time anyone gets there he is dead!

They really do need to make a few changes to the NM's like less spawn time for the lower ranks, I have seen the A rank one in the highlands then Naul. They also need more HP if a small group can down it in a few seconds it need more HP if more then 50 people are gonna be hunting this thing at one time.

Apparently the cool thing to do now is to provoke a mark, leash it, and reset it so your group gets claim.

Hunts should have been the old 1.0 faction leves, with dutybound bosses scaled for 4 man, 8 man, and 8 man i90 parties. Instead we have FF11 NMs, with all the FF11 problems. I'm beginning to think SE does not understand how people work.

To the OP: Did you not call out that the mark had spawned? Were people shouting "please wait for me, I'll be there in a sec!"? If either of these things are true then you really have no leg to stand on. If you're so impatient that you can't wait a minute or two for people who have been combing the area for Naul every single snowfall, some of them now on multiple days, to come and grab credit too, then there is nothing I can call you but selfish.

Generally: I agree that the B-rank elites need to have an increase in HP, especially if the weekly is always going to be a B-rank (though really, an A-rank already gives that many seals; I got lucky and caught the Cancer-like crab elite in Aleport), but there's really no defending grabbing an elite mark's credit all to yourself and -maybe- one or two others when you KNOW there are dozens of people who have been diligently combing the area trying to find the damn thing. I've had two run-ins with Naul today alone, plus an A-rank spawn in the East Shroud that I literally ran across the entire map for, while in a party for taking down said mark, only to discover that someone decided he couldn't be bothered to wait an extra minute and pulled it, forcing everyone else to zerg it down or lose any chance at credit. That's not in any way what the Hunt is supposed to be, it sure as hell isn't what Yoshida envisioned for this system, and it's frankly unconscionable no matter how you might try to defend it or claim anyone that criticizes you is just QQing.

I totaly agree with this. It hapened to me with Naul, a rank A dragon in Coerthas. I've never been this much insulted in my whole life. Even my LS mates were angry at me before i explained then that the mob has only 2K hp and thus the entire server cannot have the kill. THIS HAS TO CHANGE ASAP.

I liked the old end-game content back in FFXI where you're given pop items for certain NMs to show themselves depending on rank and you defeat them in order to obtain a piece of the next pop items to take on the next challenge until you eventually are able to take on the true S rank NMs and get some really good loot.

However, these fights were ridiculously hard and gets much more random towards the top.

It should be that only people within alliance are able to fight and gain anything from these mobs and not just anyone can run up and slay them.

Naul is rank B. I agree with what you're saying though.

This is the reason I left the linkshell I was in. I got tired of the childishness of people insulting others and threatening to blacklist simply because someone didn't wait for the entire server to show up just to down a rank B. It was ridiculous. Even insulted those that accidentally pulled it thinking everyone was there and ready.

Also, it got to the point where I couldn't see/target even rank B's because SO MANY people showed up. Now I just do hunts late at night when there aren't as many people on, and I'll only call out FC members or a general shout to those in the area.

Then SE shouldn't give the entire server the same B-rank mark to hunt. In fact, imo, they shouldn't be giving us B-rank marks for a weekly hunt anyway. When players only get 1 elite mark bill per week, shared with hundreds of other players on the same server, at the least the mark should be A-rank if not S-rank.
