Yesterday evening, I crafted heaps of cheap GSM stuff to desynthesize. I started at about level 1.1 and finished around level 30 and change. I have some questions I was wondering if y'all knew the answer to.
Other class's desynth level dropping - Does it pick one at random that has been leveled? Is the decrease happening at all a RNG thing or is it due to the item being desynthed? My GSM went up while my LTW went down (but it's the only one I'd raised at all, was around 2.3).
Are the items created by desynthing truly RNG (besides obviously what the item was composed of)? I got a mat from the really low level stuff and a shard or two from the level 20ish stuff. I got 2 Battlecraft demimateria and 1 clear demimateria while desynthing last night. I'd guess this is just RNG based?
In order to level a few classes, would it be best to level them at once so that the level decreases don't impact one class so severely? Kind of a 2 steps forward, 1 back idea.
The exp points gained from desynthing seems to really drop off fast. I was getting 1.87 (highest) on copper earrings for the first handful of levels. When I got to 100% desynth, the exp gained was about .4, so I changed to a higher level item. I figured I'd keep doing this, but, once I was crafting the level 20ish jewelry and had only 55% chance of success, I was lucky to get .4-.6 exp points per item. :/ It seems it'd be better to craft lower level stuff to desynth that has a higher chance of success and get fewer exp points than craft higher level stuff and fail so many times.
Has anyone noticed whether desynthing a HQ item makes any difference? I haven't. I thought briefly that maybe the exp gained was a touch higher (.59 to .63), but subsequent desynths didn't exactly back this up.
Oh, I noticed that my chance to desynth Ifrit's Cudgel was at 0% at low levels and is now 6% at level 30 GSM desynth. Just thought, I'd put that out there.

A few things I've noticed:
1. It seems that your desynth chances go up by exactly 1.5% per level. It seems like there's an initial chance for each ilvl (which might be negative), and your desynth success rate is (InitChance+(1.5%*DesynthLvl)).
2. Desynthing gives massively diminishing returns for experience. At level ~70 skill, I have a ~77% chance to desynth ilvl 55 items and I only get ~0.05 experience from them.
3. ilvl ?-49 items can give 1-2 non-clear Demimateria I and clear Demimateria I-II. ilvl 55 items can give 1-2 Demimateria II. Chance of non-clear Demimateria seems to be about 10%?
4. When DoW/DoM items give non-clear Demimateria, it's always Battlecraft. When DoL/DoH items give non-clear Demimateria, it's always Fieldcraft.
5. Since ilvl 55 DoL/DoH items do not give Fieldcraft Demimateria III, the only items left that can give Fieldcraft Demimateria III are the Artisan Tools/Spectacles and the Foragers Tools/Hat. At 100 skill, you will only have a ~95% chance (I forget the exact number) of success desynthing these items. If the pattern holds, you'll only have a 10% chance of getting the Fieldcraft Demimateria III. That means, to get the 10 Fieldcraft Demimateria IIIs needed for one new upgraded tool, you'll have to desynth about 105 Artisan/Foragers items. The cheapest way to do this is to use Artisan Spectacles (GSM desynth), which cost 10 HQ Spicy Tomato Relish each. So, you'll need about 1052 HQ Spicy Tomato Relish to get EACH new primary tool, which is 11,579 HQ Spicy Tomato Relish for all 11. Look forward to it!
6. If my math is right, you'll have a 100% chance to desynth Ifrit's Cudgel at 93 skill, which isn't that bad. It's really bad for Mog weapons though, since you can never hit 100% desynth for them. -

Raised ALC, LTW dropped. Raised CRP, both GSM and ALC dropped. So I'm guessing what drops is random?
I saw on another thread that having materia on the item increases the chance of success. -

On another thread, someone told me they received Fieldcraft IIIs from desynthing Astrolabe Clinometers (the intermediate item you use to synth an Astrolabe). I wonder if Vanya Glove Lining and such will give Fieldcraft IIIs as well...
Also, wasn't the dropping supposed to only happen when you hit 300 total points? Are you saying it's happening immediately when leveling a second desynth class? 'cause, that's crap :( -

Oddly enough, with my server's prices, the cheapest item to desynth for Fieldcraft IIIs is still the Artisan's Spectacles (assuming a turn in of HQ Spicy Tomato Relish)...
Artisan Spectacles are 15k each. Astrolabe Clinometers are 36k each. Suspended Trillium Flowers are probably cheap too since Lime Sulphur is pretty cheap (about 20k), same with Sangra Limbs and Hardened Sap (also about 20k), but anything involving Coke, Peacock Ore, Potash, or Animal Fat is really not cheap at all (~80k). -

Well, I finally started raising a second desynth class, and the drops are far less than I had feared. My GSM went from 77.65 to 77.55 while my BSM went from 1 to 50. Annoying, but hardly game breaking. I somehow doubt this is a bug, and I expect that the higher your total skill points, the more of a loss, until it's one for one at 300 skill.

I haven't seen it mentioned but for GSM PvP Warwolf items are i70 and you can desynth them for skill ups and I imagine they can yield battlecraft III demimateria. Not bad since they only cost 625 Wolf Marks each.

To level GSM (still only around level 39), I've made heaps of cheap jewelry to desynth. I also see the exp gained really slows down fast once the success chance goes over 50%, but I'd much rather (nearly) always succeed than have .5 more points and fail more often. :/
