Syrcus Tower Woes

Gotten a few clears of Syrcus Tower now...and for the life of me I can't figure out why some groups are having difficulty with this. The mechanics are self explanatory if you at least pretend you have a brain.

Anyone else notice that most of the player base is incapable of raid awareness?

Welcome to "watch a video on youtube" generation *shudder*.(and this is my first mmorpg but I don't watch videos unless it's something I really can't figure out on my own or with my team).

I decided the first time I'll be going in as a healer... had a blm that ate each and every aoe and had a bard that was ALWAYS on the other side of the field far away from the team to recieve ANY AoE heals - hell had to run after him for single target heals as well.

Judging from the amount of people I've seen and heard of that don't understand even Ramuh HM's mechanics, yes, most of the players in this game don't learn fast.

What that means is either they need to have someone point it out to them or get hit by said mechanics more number of times than others before they realize it.

And then there are those that expect everyone to be an expert at a dungeon that's been out for less than 24 hours.

Yes it is cleared and outdated content now. Time to get a new patch :)

No I don not expect them to be an expert. I don't even expect them to understand the mechanics. I do expect them to be able to figure out that standing in an AoE or being hit by an avoidable attack is something they should not be doing(atleast not more than once). Also being aware of your team and where they generally are spread around is helpful as it means a healer doesn't suddenly need to drop everything and run to the other side of the field to heal little 'ol you that decided to be there.

Tanks seem to ignore the adds as well - which I can understand in certain cases but not when you need one MT and 2 OTs are there doing dps instead of looking around to see if adds will spawn.

I ran it for the first time last night with all Alliance members also being new.

We collectively figured out the mechanics of all the bosses together, and beat it on that run. Sure, we had a few wipes, but we learned from our mistakes, and learnt how to control the battle. I was lucky to have such a good group.

The second Alliance however, continued to fail over and over, on Scylla.

Even after explaining how the orbs worked, and the mechanic that was similar to the formerly named Acheron, people still ran around like crazy people when they were tagged with ice or fire orbs. /facepalm.

My first and only (sadsauce,,,worksucks) run in ST last night was a blast. Was PLD and we had a good group. We were all learning together. Only one or two of the alliance had completed, and only once. Scylla was fun, once everyone understood what to do, Wiped to ..her?, twice. Glasya was interesting. Took a few wipes for everyone to understand how the knights worked. After we got that down it was cake. Amon was a one shot. I basically tank and spanked em. He has a KB style intermission and was rather easy to down. Plus he has an epic outfit... Xande was a nice cap to the whole run. Took people a few mins to understand how the orbs worked.

All in all it was a great run. Everyone played smart and did pay attention.

I am sure this evening I'll get some that aren't so apt.

Did Hein/Amon enjoy the spanking? I am assuming he would have. Maybe that's why he wanted to close the curtains - for privacy.

This is exactly my point. It's more about players being lazy (or stupid). For example on 2nd boss. You see a big flying disc roaming around the room. A normal player's first though is hmm...that might hurt if I touch it better avoid it. I don't expect players to be perfect, hell I don't even expect them to be good players. What I do expect is that they are paying attention and trying to learn the mechanics not just spamming 1 2 3 and hoping they get a clear.

The spinning pizza is funny, a BRD got hit by it and ran the same direction it was going. Needless to say there was a array of floating dmg comming out of his feathery hat and he got a first hand taste of the golden floor. It was funny to watch.

We literally had a group where no one knew what to do.......

It was fun and amazing the Ally Chat was booming with ideas and jokes and what not I loved it ''learning'' the dungeon I'm a high end coil player too T5, Levi EX is my resume as WHM ...and I'm all for watching videos but it was 4 am and I was already stoked about the tower and what not so I just went with it , we wiped 4 times on the first boss , 0 on the second and 2 times on the third and 0 on the fourth it was a blast.

Sometimes it just takes the ''right '' players

i think it basically comes down to obscure mechanics. at the first boss you see some orbs and a lot of aoes. the game doesnt prepare you or explain anything to you in front of it. try reading debuff descriptions during a heated battle. it's all trial & error in this game and some people learn faster than others.

Lol the raging has been wild. It's been out a day and people are already frustrated because it isn't going smoothly. OMFG how do you not know this by now, noob?! Can't believe some of the egos in this game.

I already got my oil this week, I guess by next week everyone will have 15 min speed runs down.

Oil does drop? thought I read that oil and sand were to be added later? I know UAT is a go. I have been once only so far for initial clear hence I am asking for confirmation.

Oil drops. The sad part is when someone in your party lots on oil, wins it, and then asks the party what it's for.

Well i ran the new CT as tank, and what i was met with was in fact incredibly arrogant raiders. One of the alliances had the attitude of "we have downed turn 9, therefore we are not explaining anything that we know of these fights to anyone", and it had turned out they had completed CT and entire once before! What this led to was a lot of annoyed people wanting to get some pointers to look out for before the fight, yet the other allliance would just charge ahead and pull before anyone could do anything at all. Thankfully we wiped once, on the first boss and that was all.
I would say in this case, it was the elite "i downed turn 9" raiders that were in fact, incapable of raid awareness.

I want to thank my ST group last night. Had 90% of folks new. One guy would give a run down of the mechanics before each boss but it was still a new experience. Yes, we wiped a few times, but it was actually fun to do something new for a change. Of course, we had the one dipshit say "it isn't hard to use your brain and read up on the content before joining." Well he promptly left and we were all the better for it. Watching videos or reading a synopsis isn't enough. You have to actually do it to understand. Moreover, it's new content that is two days old. F-ing deal with it and have some fun for a change.
