I would like to take this time to express my joy in what the daggers were replaced with in the 2.3 update! (This is not a sarcasm thread.) At first I was a little mad when I heard daggers were going to be given a different model to become swords, because it's good to have varioty. But, when I saw the new models for them, my anger turned into excitement! I was expecting Square Enix to give the daggers models already used by other obtainable weapons. So, I was very delighted when I saw they were given models of weapons only seen on NPC's AND completely new models as well! In my opinion, the swords look fantasic! Especially the viking ones, which look like classic, traditional swords.
So, with that being said, I would like to thank Square Enix for what they have given us (or, in the case, replaced). I know this is something very little in the 2.3 update, and maybe not worthy of a thread. It's just it's been a long time since I've felt this happy and appreciative about something in FFXIV. The little things are very important.
And I would like to express my sympathies for those who have lost their favorite weapons this patch. :-(. I know it sucks to have a cool thing taken and be replaced with something you never wanted. (That is exactly how I felt about FFXIV: ARR at first.) Just hang in there. Rogue and Ninja is just a few months away.

Funny, I still have at least one dagger left untouched on my GLA/PLD - my old dated brass dagger from version 1.0 was not included in the change over. So I'm going to be one of the few GLA/PLDs that still has a knife! :D

YES. These are great. The blade the maddening dagger got replaced with - can't think of the name at the moment - in particular is especially nice, with that vivid purple blade and contrasting hilt. Nothing plain about them, despite being low level gear, and I'd be more than happy to glamour that when my gladiator hits 50. New weapons, AND lowbie weapons that don't look plain and uninteresting as you level? Yes please!

My strong suspicion is that this is in preparation for ROU... RGE... ROG (we really need a standardized acronym for that) and NIN. They needed to give dagger classes their own identity. I wouldn't be surprised if we see those dagger models pop back up again next patch.

I can only assume but I imagine it to be for future use. Either to stop confusion with rogue weapons or perhaps an actual dagger class down the line...

My paladin is crying tears of joy. He used to look at end game paladins running around and think, "someday, I'll get to have a real sword..." Using a dagger felt kind of emasculating. It didn't help that my alternatives were short swords and freakin' paddles (seriously, what is up with the paddles? Maybe that can be fixed in the next patch?)

I liked the gladius, and felt they fit a Gladiator. I am just glad they left the spatha alone, so I am not stuck with a large sword.

Even more is it was actually originally made for me by a friend who at the time was about the only friend I had on Ridill in 1.0 (she still plays the game, however sadly she switched servers at ARR's launch). So this lowly (and tarnished) dagger now has much sentimental value to me (along with some other stuff she made for me), besides the obvious benefit of still being a dagger usable on GLA/PLD.
