So the veil of wiyu animus already have 20 determination. So would I still need to do the max melding of 31 for determination for novus or I can just meld 11 more to get the 31 points?

The only initial stats on the moves are vitality and intelligence, so all secondary stats have to be melded for the novus.
Sorry. Phone autocorrect. Moves=novus
Thanks for clearing that up for me. Though it's kinda dumb that they did it that way.
Basically what happens when you upgrade from animus to novus: main stats (Vit+STR or MND or INT or DEX) upgrade automatically, and you need to meld all the 75 (correct if wrong number) secondary stats, so wether or not you have 31 det already, you'd still need to meld all 31 det on the sphere scroll that you use to upgrade.
You need to meld it from 0/75 no matter what
My apologies for the extreme necro; I'm just trying to avoid cluttering the forums with repeat topics.
Just started on the Novus phase for SMN and I'm wondering what are my relevant options for upgrading? That is, the stats that are worth melding. What are the optimal melds for this (for later on, since I'm sure I'll just want to push through this phase)? What melds would "pass" for now, that is, something that would help me just fine until I decide if I want to optimize or not?
31 det/44 crit. If gil is an issue or you need acc, squeeze in some acc, and just change it later on if you feel like it. 23det/33crit/19 acc is a popular choice as it completely avoids any tier IV materia but is still a very solid weapon.
These are basically the only viable options, unfortunately there's not much room for summoner since spellspeed sucks so hard for the job.
I recommend accuracy/crit in book because then you can enjoy all the beautiful crit gear out there that has no accuracy  without loosing towards Coil/Primal requirements.
If you do not have gil for tier 4 materias i would go.
19 spellspeed 33 crit 23 det
or
19 piety 33 crit 23 det
or
one point for accuracy(from piety or spell speed) so you can get accuracy 535 with ironworks bracelets
You can get more than enough accuracy from current gear, you do not need it anymore from your weapon.
Critical > Det mianly because you have four DoTs up with each having a chance to critical each tick, it does add up over time.
Personally I went Critical +31, Det +19, Acc +15, Piety +10 but I was also using all the stored materia I had on retainers because I was working on buying my house at the time.
