Having TP issues...

Evening,

Need some advice, I play WAR, have done since launch and 1.0 and enjoy it, even in the dark days before 2.1...

I've never had any issues keeping up in dungeons and having ample TP throughout, however recently im noticing my TP is just draining to keep up with DPS enmity. Generally I go with Tomohawk > SS > OP (X 2 normally) > Enmity combo, weaving in OP's and Flash when needed. The problem is im finding that those 2X OP's at the start is having to go up too 3-4 OP's just to secure the mob and I cant seem to get around it :confused::confused:

Is it possible that the disparity I have accidentally created in my gear is the issue, my accs, belt and head are all i100 but ofc that only really gives me a load of VIT, meanwhile my STR has not kept up with everyone else getting accs and such that actually increase their damage output...

Any thoughts??

This is exactly why I play the TP song regularly when there's a Warrior in my party.

There is no reason to use SS on its own (if you absolutely need to use an ability outside of combo, use BB, since that generates 500 enmity, rather than 300), and you should never just use the BB combo (it's lower enmity than virtually any other enmity combo options and has the worst possible damage of *any* WAR rotation).

The basic rotation you *should* be using for a WAR is (SE or SP) combo>BB combo>BB combo. Once you have established your baseline AoE enmity (if you're starting from scratch, this is basically 1-2 Overpowers; if you've got Maim, you can often get away with just 1; if you've got 5 stacks of Wrath going in, you should be using SC), you should then move into that rotation but make sure to target swap (don't just attack the same target; swap from target to target, getting 1-2 attacks on each, depending upon how close your allies are to pulling aggro from you).

You should never really have to use Flash either. Flash is horrible for a WAR. Take it off of your bar right now.

One of the other things you should realize is that Steel Cyclone is *amazing*. When you're AoE tanking, once you've established baseline enmity on everything, start doing your ST rotation (SE/SP>BB>BB) while target swapping and use Steel Cyclone whenever you get 5 Wrath. SC generates 50% more enmity than Overpower, does 250% of its damage, and doesn't cost any TP. When possible, use Infuriate immediately after you use SC in order to use SC against immediately (SC>Infuriate>SC) for loads of AoE damage as well as enmity.
That's your problem. You're playing WAR about as badly as is possible.

i have my war spec'd to 30/30 str and dont have any real issues with threat (big debate to follow str Vs vit lol) i wear all the vit acc
i dont even keep flash on my bar for WAR.. ill throw it in for the occasional things

Yo. Thanks for the responses and sorry I just noticed the typo that made me look very silly. By SS I meant SC, I can see thatmay have appeared super derpy lol...SC is amazaballs I understand that :D

Regarding flash, that's kinda just there for when I am TP starved, needs must and all that...

I must admit, outside of boss fights I've never really gone with SP or SE combos, I'll certainly try that, I was unaware that the enmity of this was higher overall than the BB combo over time...

And if you're running out of TP, you're doing something very wrong. You should never need to use OP outside of the opening few attacks to establish initial AoE aggro and that's only if you aren't opening with SC. It really doesn't help that you're basically shooting yourself in the foot by not using Maim, which would be increasing your AoE damage/enmity by 20% as well.

Maim is a 20% increase to damage dealt, which translates into 20% more enmity off of all of your attacks. SE is a 10% reduction in resistance, which is a ~11% increase in slashing damage dealt to the target. Combine those two, and you're getting 33% more damage and enmity out of everything you do compared to straight BB spam.

Math:

BB combo:
83.33 + (150 + 200 * 3 + 280 * 5) / 3 = 800.00 ePot/GCD
83.33 + (150 + 200 + 280) / 3 = 293.33 ePot/GCD

SE>BB>BB:
((83.33 * 3 + 150 + 190 + 270) * 1.2 + 2 * (83.33 * 3 + 150 + 200 * 3 + 280 * 5) * 1.2 / .9) / 9 = 825.77 ePot/GCD
((83.33 * 3 + 150 + 190 + 270) * 1.2 + 2 * (83.33 * 3 + 150 + 200 + 280 ) * 1.2 / .9) / 9 = 375.40 ePot/GCD

Flash is definetly not needed, u can do very well without it
I do however use it, it does come in handy when u need a bit if hate on something without damaging it,
Especially since the other CC abilities I would replace it for are really quite useless in my opinion

Flash is a hit or miss to me. It's a great filler skill when you're pacified from Berserk (and healers don't esuna) and also in the times that you are low on TP (from quick consecutive pulls) you can throw in a flash or two since you're not using MP anyways.

That was the purpose of the thread ^^ XD

Otherwise though I just did couple of brayflow HM, on the larger pulls I made some changes as you advised and went Tomohawk > SC > SE (split between mobs) > BB combo (again split between mobs) X2 > SC when infuriated. The BLM was close to getting hate but that was thanks to flare spam but they stayed on me, and I still had 560 TP~ by the end of the pulls, so that worked out.

Regarding Flash though, I get what you are saying, no class should HAVE to relay on another classes skill, thats not how it was designed. But the other CC abilities would be used less tbh so its staying on my second hotbar in case I ever need it, you never know when a pull might go sour and the TP flushes away, but I certainly wont mix it in too my normal rotation :p

Haymaker is more useful for WAR than Flash. You shouldn't need to worry about AoE threat after SC and/or 1-2 OPs.

it's depends, lets say you have voice on T7 as off tank on add phase and you have to turn around for voice the last few seconds and you see your hate going down..... use flash because its the only hate enmity generation you can do while your back is to the mob. Even if this is a valid situation you will have the tank fanboys say otherwise lol.
