Garuda in real life was a guy. As was Shiva. Siren is actually the only female Aeon in this game that was actually a female in real life as well that I can recall.
So why shouldn't they change Odin's gender as well?
Odin's appearance reflects the person who discovers the FATE/Delivered killing blow (sorry I forget which.) So Odin can look all different.
"In real life"
-_-
I was referring to their gender in the myths of real world religions, not to the belief that these entities really exist by said religions. I honestly don't care whether or not they exist as that isn't really a discussion that we should be having (it is actually against the Terms of Service to discuss Religious Beliefs here). The pertinent matter for discussion is that Squaresoft (this happened before the Square/Enix merger) changed the genders of several Aeon's simply because of the Fan-Service appeal.
But apparently that isn't what is happening with Odin anyways so it doesn't matter.
Somehow im my server Lich im getting the Hyur Odin.
Oh that's so wierd, so odin always look like the one who got the killing blow?
How are you all figuring this out? To me, odin is so hard to see well, cause it moves fast and people are casting flashing stuff on it constantly lol
Uh... could it be... Odin is actually mind controlling us.. to see what he wanted you to view himself to be?
Sorry guys i guess i'm missing something here. I didn't notice that Odin have different models (maybe due to the crowd), but when you guys say his shape depends on who delivers the final blow, what do you mean exactly? We can check Odin shape when he's killed?
You can see Odin without his helmet, and he will look like the character who dealt the final blow last time. He will also take their name and I THINK general body shape.
@Humster: Odin is a Primal, so my personal opinion is that all of the fighting sort of summons Odin, and his form takes the shape of whoever is the most powerful warrior i.e. Whoever dealt the killing hit.
Well we are facing the real Odin his lore is in the game, like bahamut Odin is a elder primal so requires no beast tribe to summon him he freed himself iirc from his ather in urths fountain and wanders the shroud in search of a challenge worthy of himself. When defeated he retreats and grows stronger taking the form of the one who fell him tho I have seen in the early days on my first server when people wipe to him the former name is removed and he takes his orginal form and is just Odin with out the player name attached. Only seen his real face once when I got lucky and he spawned on me while in the shroud I'll see of I can find the screen I took it's on my ps3 even tho I'm on ps4 now. Tho you only get a glimpse cause the second he is aggroed the helm appears, Odin is a interesting primal hopefully they do more with him In the future.
Fought odin today.
"Unreal Chedda" under his name.
Wat
Kinda like the idea that they should do more for Odin beside plain old Fate only. Maybe a Trial Dungeon/Raid of actually fighting him and his Valkyries or something like that.
Honestly, I would never have thought Odin would be a FATE, nor Behe.
I hope they do more with them, but I doubt it. Seems thats all for them.
Does anyone have some pictures of Odin showing the varying appearance? I've only seen him a couple times, and the fight was so hectic I never got a good look.
Not true of Bahamut, and probably not Odin either. Coil Spoilers;
Bahamut is actually kept "alive" by Allagan technology, which replaces the need for a tribe worshiping him. Dalamud was his prison which kept him both alive, and siphoned his energy to Crystal Tower; they basically turned him into a orbital reactor... The probable reason Bahamut vanished after the End of an Era trailer is because he destroyed Dalamud when he escaped. In the Coil questline we're told there are three pieces keeping Bahamut alive through artificial worship, and our aim is to deactivate that so that he can never be summoned again, since he'll have no worshipers to do so. When he destroyed Dalamud, he sent them scattered across Eorzea, and shortly after he himself was torn apart, resulting in the scattered body parts we see in Coil.
Basically, the Allagans are complete and utter jerks. Read the lore behind Archon too; he was a rebel and hero of the people, and the Allagan took him down, augmented him, and bent him to their will. One of the Crystal Tower NPCs has the full story iirc. Seriously, the Allagans were jerks.
Now, how Odin stays around without any worshipers is completely unknown. Hopefully the expand on that in the future. My theory, continuing from earlier spoilers;
Odin wasn't a Primal like Ifrit or Bahamut, rather he was created by the Allagan while testing the technology behind keeping Bahamut stuck in Dalamud. One of his lines during the FATE is something along the lines of how he is now a God amongst men, but a man amongst Gods. To me that suggests that he was somehow warped into being a Primal. If he was created testing Dalamud technology, then it would explain why he is persistent and needed to be sealed, rather than just defeated.

My odin can't possibly be this cute
First: Odin changes appearance depending on who gives the last shot to it.
Second: We never actually defeat Odin, he just retreats to keep looking for Urth.
Maybe in a long long time we will have a true final battle with Odin, he is actually an Elder Primal so he is at least, arround the power level of Bahamut itself.
I got the Odin kill shot a few months back (I found 'You defeat Odin' in battle log and checked with a couple others whose logs weren't too crazy full of stuff, to be sure) and I so wanted to be back for his next spawn to see Odin take my form and grab a screenshot, but I couldn't be on the entire window in which he could respawn and I guess it wasn't meant to be. All I can do is hope he got Zantetsukin off before he departed. I mean, who wouldn't want to see their avatar slay a few hundred Eeorzians in one fell swoop?
Elder Primals are somehow, more "inteligent" (should i say reserved?) than normal Primals who are almost obssesed with tempering the sh*t out of everyone (titan being the only exception, this guy is a martir!).
There is a reason why Bahamut provoked the Calamity...
He was confined by Allagans and was being used as a living battery to channel sun energy, he was enslaved, not only confined and captured, he was forced to keep a material form and serve them for thousands of years, and after the dissapear of allagans, he was still alive, concius, captured, enslaved... IDK you, but i will be really pissed off... Thats why once free, Bahamut just turned against... Everything, he is freaking mad bro, 2000 years later and still mad bro!
While Odin`s objective is more subtle, he is looking for something, why would he try to destroy something without porpuse?
Of course is just especulation, but Odin and Bahamut are both part of one of the most classic trinities in fantasy, the knight, the dragon and the castle. We still missing Alexander at some point. I think, one day, we might see a battle between Odin and Bahamut.
