SMN with 0 INT attribute points

Just wondering, im really enjoying my SCH, although my plan was to use ACN to get a DPS class. now im going to have a hard time splitting from my SCH since it seems more interesting to me than WHM.

Ive heard that having 30 mind is not going to hurt my DPS that bad for SMN from one person.

the other said that 30 pie is the way to go for SMN/SCH

is this going to work?

30 INT is huge for DPS. 30 MND is not as big of a deal for healing. I don't know who would recommend 30 PIE.

And just so there's no confusion, Arcanist is ACN, not ARC. ARC is Archer.

thank you! ill edit that. so will the 30 int in trials/raids have a minuscule effect on my healing? im guessing that since SCH is mostly sheilds and buffs with lustrate having a flat amount i would be okay.

If you are going to play them both, it's best to put all 30 into INT. 30 INT for SMN is far more beneficial than 30 MND for SCH, mainly due to SCH having Lustrate and heal bots (Eos and Selene). 30 into PIE is wasted for both unless one is just terrible at mp management.

Just to put it into perspective, 30 INT is ~4.6 weapon damage, which is about a 15 ilvl increase in weapon damage.

You will be just fine. I've healed everything (on SCH, can't stand WHM) up through Turn 5 and all Extremes just fine with 30 INT for SMN. Building for CRIT is your best friend.

The big thing is that Healing is less about raw power and more about strategic use of your abilities and timing your heals properly (especially as a Scholar). Raw power is more important for a SMN than it is for a SCH. You can compensate for weaker numbers on SCH by playing smarter, where as for a DPS check, you want your SMN to be outputting as much damage as possible.

With that being said, the point differential won't make a difference on any non-end game scenario. If you're not planning to Second Coil of Bahamut on SMN, it won't make or break a run. Likewise, pick the points on which class you think you play more / enjoy more. I enjoy using SMN and SCH equally, but I'm a healer at heart so I put all my points into MND.

Whoever told you to go Pie as SMN/SCH was trolling or really really bad.

If you want to do both I would say go 30 INT. I've done the math and you will lose ~50HP / physick and ~40HP / adlo (+40 hp shield) by removing the 30 MND at 50. You would have to be able to really really good to not overheal for that 80+% of the time.

As a SCH, 30MND yields 50 more hp healed using Physick and 40 more hp on Adloquium, compared to 0MND. This may or may not be important for young scholars (you make a decision based on your current needs), but sufficiently geared scholars will have more leeway to ignore that 30 MND. This is because those SCH depend more on crit gear than on their MND attribute and the weapon damage from ilvl90+ weapons translates in to extra healing power to offset that loss.

Also, Determination will improve the healing power of your fairies and the damage power of your egi. Just something else to consider stacking.

If you're uncomfortable with it, consider going 15INT/15MND to try it out. You may want to buy a second stat reset scroll later to change it again, but seals are relatively easy to get.

Arcanists in general have very few mp management problems. Between Aetherflow and Drain (assuming you are using them whenever possible), you will be recovering approximately 20% of your mp + 798 (266mp from 3 drains) mp every 60 seconds (not including native 2% combat mp regen per 3 seconds). You will not run out of mp unless you have to resurrect 4+ times in a single fight. The piety is a complete waste.

go 30 INT imo

There is hardly any moment in the game that requires you to "spam the heal button". So I think you'll be fine without the extra mind.

i honestly feel like you have to choose one or the other.
i was 30 MND as a scholar but when I decided to main summoner, i switched to 30INT and my scholar is retired until further notice :s

I would have to agree that if you are doing both 30 int is better because of the various dps checks before T6. However, 40-50 HP healing loss is significant in second coils and it is bigger than just the loss of direct healing as your fairy heals will be gimped as well. I don't know what content you're are on but if your are in a static and main healer for second coil I would suggest discussing it with your raid leader before going in with 30 less mind.

I've completed up to T7 (still stuck on T8) but I play WHM. That said I don't feel that 40-50 hp is going to make a difference when the mob is already hitting for 2k+ (to the tank). The only mild healing checks that I've run into is doing the burn strat in T6 which is AoE healing which the WHM is better at. And the dread in T8 but that is a short time (~15-20 secs tops) and the SCH will most likely be using lustrate then so the loss of MND won't make that much of a difference.

I'm unsure how the fairy is effected by MND but now I'm tempted to check that.

You can split the difference, but remember that while the player has access to all classes, the purpose of the job system was to allow players to "specialize" in certain jobs. That means you have to gimp the ones you aren't specialized in. It doesn't seem like a good system now since we only have 9 jobs, but in the future when we have 15-20+ jobs with 3-4 of them branching off a single class, specialization will play a key role in this game. Plus you also have to account for level cap raises. 30 points isn't huge now, but at some point in the future we will have 50, 60, 70+ stat points to allocate, and then the decisions become much more meaningful.

Unless you're doing Coil2, 30INT does more for SMN than 30MND would for SCH in casual content.
