Coil t9 weapon totems

Apologies if this has been posted before but please allow a totem system for the weapon drops from the second coil of bahamut turn 4 and eventually the next tier coil weapons.

For anyone that is unfamiliar in 1.0 during Garuda/ifrit/moogle etc when they had the best weapons in the game there was also a totem that could drop called vortex totem/inferno totem etc. For those with shitty luck after X amount of kills they could trade these totems in for a weapon of their choice. (I believe it was 40?? For Garuda).

So what I suggest is something like a high allagan totem that is rewarded after getting the 2nd coil cleared 10 times achievement "In another bind III". This one time totem can then be traded in for a weapon of your choice.

This system will greatly help those who have put in tremendous amounts of effort learning and clearing coil 10 times but have nothing to show for it.

During the first coil t5 period I believe my fc was clearing it for 4 or 5 months and both tanks never saw their weapon drop. This is really de-motivating and i have heard many people threaten to leave this bueatiful game due to the shitty drop system.

High allagan gear drops are fine as they are because there is alternative myth/soldiery gear of the same iLVL but the weapons are the best and have no alternative so doesn't matter how good a player is or how many times they clear coil it all comes down to RNG.

Please SE allow allagan totems to but weapons after 10 or so kills or I fear many of my friends and loyal players from 1.0 will start unsubscribing

My group had exactly the same discussion 2 days ago, and we came to the same conclusion.
They should really make the 10 times achievement give out a weapon of your choise, it's getting ridiculous as we're 8/10 and only have 4 weapons to show, the rest are double drops and a drg weapon which we don't even have in our group.
The exactly same scenario happened in t5 I never saw my weapon nor did our warrior and brd, the same thing is repeating itself.
I think after 10 kills you deserve at least one f'ing weapon.

11 clears here. 3 SMN books, 3 WHM canes, 2 axes. My favourite is the 5 weeks we got 4 caster pants in. RNG is RNG, not going to whine about it, and I hold a bit of pride that I know I do a better job than BLMs with better gear. Still I thought of the idea of the 10 clear achievement giving a token for a single weapon when I got my achievement, and it was tempting but I understand why we have RNG systems; for longevity. SE wants us to farm beyond the minimum number of weeks it takes to get all our gear, and only a RNG system enables that; unless you have stupid good luck at least 1 person in a group will draw the short straw and be farming for half a year.

Well, except SE is changing something in their patch order (i see 2.3 with brutal coil as new "hard" endgame content as an exception) the content needs to last about 24 weeks each time. If everyone would get their weapon afte 10 weeks of clearing coil they would run out of "things to do" after about 15-18 weeks (assuming your static clears the new content 5-8 weeks after release).

Sure you could say now "but they may still need other gear that didn't drop yet". That's true, but to be honest if they implement a token system like that it won't be long until people shout for the same system for their other gear pieces.


Although it's really not a bad idea. If we would get new endgame content every 3 months it would be fine since the actual content only needs to last for about 12 weeks. so if you get a guaranteed weapon after 10 wins you would get it either right before the new patch or shortly after.

With the 6 months inbetween each new coil that we have now it would prolly work with 20 tokens - 1 weapon. That way most People that really care about would get it right in time.

I agree. 10 clears is definitely enough to award a player a one time only raid weapon of their choice. Whether or not it should be taken further into a token system or not is another story, but no one should have to spend 3-5 months clearing the final turn and never get a single weapon for their efforts.

Just in regards to this point, the way 2nd coil is set-up right now there is no need for this system to be applied to the other gear. If you get unlucky with drops and you are in a static, then you can work things out with them to make sure that the person unlucky with HA pieces can be the first people to get Oil/Sand to upgrade weathered. Maybe what you upgrade isn't the exact BiS, but it does assure that you get the i110 piece and the upgrade to the primary stat. In my static, we hardly ever see BRD gear. First two out of three times we cleared T7 I was able to get the Oil, because everyone else already had 2-3 pcs of gear from T6/T7. I have popped a few pieces since then, but it's fairly easy to coordinate this in a trusted group of people you may have been running with for months on end.


There is just literally no way to do this for HA weapons. Right now, you are just hoping that you see a drop and relying on RNG to be in your favor. I do kind of agree with your longevity point, and maybe 10 wins is a little low, but the foundation of the idea is sound and I agree with OP. If you clear the absolute hardest content this game has to offer 10-15 times I think that's more than enough to earn your weapon.

Haven't seen the SMN book, but if my group's luck is going to be anything like the first coil, I won't get my weapon until many weeks after Coil 2 is 'unlocked'. XD Fortunately, it's not really NEEDED for anything, especially if your group is already meeting the dps to pass T9... but still, it is kind of disappointing that you can be super accomplished and still never see your weapon. I recall what OP is referring to as the 1.0 Garuda/Moogle system. While I believe it is a step up from the complete random factor of "this is the weapon you get," it was an even better improvement over the 1.0 system of "maybe some random person will get a random weapon in their inventory... MAYBE." That was really frustrating, if anyone recalls. I really like the direction SE took with the tomestone/oils/sands. My group has been splitting them equally since we started running together... everyone feels progression, and everyone's happy. Sure, some people get more drops than others, but we're all being equal about the tokens. I would like it if there were something similar to this for T9 (and future 'final raids'), but I doubt that will happen. Luck has to have some factor in their fights... and luck is what heavily influences drops from every trial. The difference is, you can spam trials nonstop. :S

Well even BG can't clear a new coil in the first week :D So you got to take into consideration how long it takes the average party to clear the last turn. As I bet it's pretty safe to say that less parties running SCoB have turn 9 on farm than those who havn't fully cleared. For the top 1% it may make things easier, but for the rest it will balance out. Also the top 1% could never see a certain weapon or 3 ever drop due to RNG.

Just last week, we had 100% caster drops :S Also only had one MNK drop, our tank who switches to DRG for t8 has more HA drops for DRG than me for MNK! *pouts*

I would love to have a token system implemented for HA weapons and for any weapons given at the last turns of future raids. I know RNG will be RNG (and I am not really against the system), but it's a little frustrating when you have cleared these turns so many times and have nothing much to show for it. I've also been quite unlucky in turn 5 and in turn 9. I didn't see an axe in turn 5 until well after 2.2 came out (I didn't need/want it by then) and i have yet to see one in turn 9 after 10 clears.

While 10 clears may not seem like that much, it's been 10 weeks that I've been waiting to see one. We've gotten plenty of MNK claws, BLM staves, and BRD bows. And yes, I know eventually they will open up these turns for farm and everyone can get their weapon, but for those who have worked hard to clear early and end up never getting the weapon, it's disappointing.

I wouldn't mind it being higher than 10 clears, because atleast I know somewhere down the road there's a weapon for me and that alone would comfort me.

RNG is good but you can't have 8 different drops in one battle, because it leads to this of situation, yep a way to solve this is a token system, but the good way would be sparing the drops, it's up to SE but i think tokens lead to entitlement and that's not good for a MMO.

tell that to the people that farmed 100+ runs without seeing a primal weapon they want lol. I'm looking at you ifrit sword.

Better yet, why not add a token system of ALL the loot in coil? I still have yet
to see the healing robe from turn 4. Doesn't have to be a one token, one item thing.
The items could determine the number of tokens you need. But hey, that logical and
we are talking about square enix :P

Currently Primals chain has a token system which is way easier than what OP is suggesting. With weekly lockouts and min of 10 wins for totem, that 10 weeks (2 and half months which is almost time for next patch) worth of raiding and wins. So you deserve that weapon. Its not like you can get carried and everyone will have high allagan weapons. Its a honor to say "Hey I didnt get my weapon in 1-9 runs but I got it on the 10th one". That just shows skills.

Yeah you can do this, but it really depends what your aim is. for example, we distributed the sands/oil equally for the first 1 1/2-2 months (although some of us didn't use them instantly) and thne we started to get all of our people to full 110 for brutal coil. It's just not as effective as getting a full BiS set. But i guess if you're not after min-maxing everything you're kinda right.
And it also really depends on your static, because i believe everyone would like to get some sands for their BiS even if they've gotten 2-3 drops more than someone else.
Not to mention that while you're still progressing some classes get a higher benefit from sands than others. This helps the overall progression of the group (although this depends also on the mindset of your static i guess)

Well second week. :P And sure an average group needs more time but do they really need HA weapons at the patch day of new content? Most of the average groups are not really interested in the progression race and the first 1-2 turns of new content is most of the time clearable even with sub-HA weapons without that much trouble. Ofc it's nice to get your HA weapon but tbh they're not really needed except for the progress race where it sometimes really boils down to who has those 10 dps more.

If you put a token system in place that gives the "top fc's" the ability to get their HA weapons just in time for the next progression race, it'll make sure that they have something to farm in preperation until the last week or maybe 2 weeks before the next patch hits. At the same time you give the average or semi-harcore raids something to look forward to and work towards even if they should get it 2-3 weeks later. And since you don't necessarily need it, it would be a win-win situation.
