WTF is "lot"?
You lot for loot. You know, "cast lots."
Rolling for loot was known as casting lots in FFXI, and is probably known as that in at least a few other games in the genre.
If someone's telling you to lot they are telling you to hurry up and either roll or pass on something so that it drops.
"Lot", as in "lottery". When you roll for an item, you cast a lot on that item to decide who wins it. Colloquially, many people shorten the term from "I'm going to cast a lot on this item" to "I'm lotting [on] this item".
to lazy to type an extra o.
;)
Also, character vs. toon
Fries vs. chips
"This is an FF first, MMO second" vs. "This is an MMO first, FF second"
My Kitten minion is better than your Puppy minion
and brought to you by the letter "A", as in potato, not potahto
I understand, but don't agree. To each their own though!
As in, still won't call it "lot." Also, I'll agree or disagree with whatever I damn well please, thank you!
As long as people get it, that's enough.
You can disagree all you want, it's your right as an individual. But 'lot' means what it means and has been a part of the English vernacular for... a really long time. It exists in a great many anecdotes and slang, some of which have been mentioned in this thread. Disagree to your heart's content, won't change a thing.
It's like saying "DD" instead of "DPS" when referring to a damage class. Acronyms/terminology that followed over from FFXI.
Most people just say "roll" instead of "lot".
this thread is priceless.
When people say lot, they don't mean loot.
"Casting lots" refers to the practice of divining an outcome from the roll of dice. Whoever has the biggest number wins.
The practice is likely derived from Cleromancy, in which people threw bones or stones to determine fate or the will of a higher power.
Hmm... We might have been trolled. /sadface. I was trying to be genuinely helpful. :(
While i agree with you, they are indeed a damage per second, because ppl using this terminology comes from games where all that matter are the numbers and the persons are worth nothing, they are absolutely expendables, in the bad way, not like Stallone and his crew :P
I want more responses from the OP, I need a laugh.
:EDIT: Scratch that, shouldn't answer to topics after just waking up.
Not as careful as I wanted, scratch that.
So is "lot" though it is typically used as a noun, not a verb.
The "looting" has already been done, what is being discussed is the casting of lots for who gets to loot the loot so to speak as loot can be used as both a noun and a verb.
Most people use "roll" or "rolling" as it is based of a 1-100 RNG more akin to dice rolls.
Yeah, we're serious. We're also seriously pissed at waiting for people to lot on the loot so it can become SOMEONE'S loot instead of the lot queue getting up to 3-4 items all waiting on lots so that the loot will lot to the highest lots.
When they say "lot" they are most likely referring to selecting "Need", "Greed" or "Pass" when to comes to allotting loot to individuals. In some MMOs it is referred to as "rolling".
Though it is possible that someone is misspelling "loot".
So you can go ahead and continue to call "lotting" "rolling" just as another person can refer to it as "lot".
You can also call your bounty from the dungeons/quests/hunts/what-have-you as "loot" as another can call it "booty", "treasure" or whatever their hearts desire. Whatever blows your fur back.

Didnt I just see another thread from you about It's Called Gear? Are you going to make one called It's Called DPS and then have the original post say "WTF is deeps?"
