We all gave our opinions and this is what we got.
I'm ashamed to see that people are now revoking that.

I fully support the direction our 1.18 overlords are taking us. It is a good start in the right direction. Just need some tweaks and balance things out some more and it will be fine.

Do the developers actually try to play the game after they have changed it? Or is it that they have so many cheats that they don't notice when they have changed something to the point that it cannot be used. I think the idea of saying yes to a major change was that things would be better that they would not gimp several key playability elements.

Wishful thinking on our part.

How dare we hope things to get better without everything else getting screwed.

Just because their voices were louder doesnt mean they were the Majority. Also that "Majority" would be everyone playing except they all have different ideas of "a game".

Generally speaking, you would usually be correct. But in this case it was the majority (85.2%) that wanted drastic changes.

This is a common problem when asking a user (read, 'player') what they want. They think they know, and will tell you such, but what they really want is something entirely different. And the problem is perpetuated by vague questions such as "Would you support drastic changes?" A question like that will be viewed differently by almost every person.

A better question is the one outlining their ideas for changing physical levels and stat point allotment. It details the ideas and simply asks, "Which would you prefer?" Those are the good questions to ask.

Well, personally, I think by asking if people would support drastic changes was their way of asking if the game in its current state was good enough or not.

We've still got a LONG way to go before FFXIV is comparable to some other upcoming MMO's like SWTOR and Guild Wars 2. Therefore, I support any changes made to the game that I think are a step in the right direction. Do I think the dev team will make mistakes along the way? Well sure, they're human but as long as the game is constantly being worked on and becoming better then I can live with that. 1.18 was definitely a step in the right direction even though they broke a few things like SP gain and mages. (I don't doubt though that these are some groundwork changes for things to come.)

The game still needs a lot of work, it saddens me that FFXIV was in development for a long time (Rapture days) and launch didn't even have Chocobos or Quests....

FF11 is running for 10+ years and still sucks compared to other mmorpgs, and that took 10 years to get as close to perfect as that game can get. Is anyone surprised that 14 is a failure?

So regardless of the changes or what they tried to improve upon, the "majority" of those people are useless if this is where 14 is going, all the suggestions were probably based off 11 and what may have worked well in their minds so why not stick it in 14... yeah well if you haven't realized by now 14 is just 11 with better graphics and the same idea of grinding levels and exp for very little progression = money sink plain and simple. They have your money what do they care if the game is good or not?

Yeah archers with auto attack is a good idea, who pays for those arrows? SE? >.>

Yeah people who crafted to high levels and could repair their own items now have to buy a third item to do so, yeah brilliant >.> why not add 5 more steps while you're at it...

Yeah lets add dungeons because we forgot to put good ones in in the first place, yeah awesome >.>


So basically they are stumbling and bumbling around like they did on 11 and people still want to justify that the devs gave us what we want? lol

How about more appropriately, they are/have taken your money and provided us with a poor product. Case closed. Unless you have a copied version of 14 i think everyone paid for the game no? Only class SE knows about is THIEF because they steal people's money.

How about putting out a game that doesn't require people's feedback for it to be good? How about a game you pay for you actually "like" to play"?

I can't believe people would justify that it takes time for a game or in time the game will get better... God if you bought a car you expect in 5 years that it's going to run better? Uh, no you pay for a car to run the way it's advertised when you buy it.

As someone mentioned some of us are Final Fantasy fans from NES FF1, the days of a paper map... since FF10 none of the games have been even close to "good" or "fun", yet we always hope they will because the franchise had a strong start.

Going to go out on a limb here and say the merge with Enix didn't pan out very well and the last 10 years of this franchise has suffered because of it.

The 85% were probably people who had already quit the game hoping for it to improve. Unfortunately the loyal players who remained are the ones who will hate alot of the changes so they can actually get a player base back.

You're likely partially right. I voted for drastic changes (a very, very vague question) but was open minded about it. I knew that the game could change in ways that we might not have expected. But I'm still here. I don't agree with a lot of the changes, but SE's basic plan seems to be a good one.

You're absolutely right. We wanted a game. Well, I believe we wanted something to do. The mechanics worked. In fact, wasn't that something we had all agreed upon? Spent too much time bug-fixing and tweaking mechanics, and not enough time developing things for players to do?

XI is a pretty good MMO. I enjoyed it back when I played it from around slightly before CoP release to midway through Wings of the Goddess. I enjoyed it quite well, it was fun, I met a lot of cool people, combat was slow in early levels but picked up especially if you played jobs like PLD and RDM etc. Long story short, lots of people like FFXI. Albeit not as many that like WoW, but that could be said for every MMO.

Then there are games like LoTRO that people just call WoW clones that people don't like as much as WoW either. Does that make it a bad game? No.

FFXIV just happened to fall flat on it's ass at release. The original dev team failed miserably. So yes, I am willing to give the game time to evolve and grow with a new team. I LIKE the direction it's heading with 1.18.

There are so many things that will be coming in the next few upcoming patches that should of been in the game on release day. But they weren't. Now, we're all basically doing a one-time paid beta.

However, you're right the overall quality of Final Fantasy games went downhill once Squaresoft became Square Enix. FFX was the last of the best.

I like the changes with exception of some things like the mp cost of some spells (i.e. cure spells, which is ridiculous) and the recast times on many skills/abilities. Many recast times are ridiculous as well. If these are balanced, the game will be much better. Oh and something that's needed changing all along is the length of time buffs and de-buffs last, 5 minutes tops for some, which is nuts too. There is not even a realistic way for regaining MP during battle to the degree it's needed. I'm well aware of the skills and abilities that we do have and they aren't sufficient at all.

I guess if the devs need to see a proper way to do it, they just need to have a look at their first endeavor with an MMO.
FFXI has this game beat in every way except Graphics. I don't want a duplicate of FFXI either but some of the core systems it has are much closer to perfection than anything in this game. It doesn't hurt to take some of the core things that exist in XI and bring them into XIV.

I know how SE works and its all about making money obviously. I mean take a look at the old Fatigue system! They took it out and now it feels like they are trying to compensate for it in every other way possible. Anything to slow down the player. They seem to think that player manipulation will substitute for game quality to keep people playing the game.

oh well, that's my opinion.

Most complaints on this forum boil down to few general subjects:

"Why did you change THIS instead of THAT first?"

Complaints about issues that have been present since the beginning of the game, but only became apparent once the current changes were implemented and difficulty ramped up. Good to bring up, but not really related to 1.18.

The direction of the game (entirely subjective).
