Anyone have any healing tips for Turn 8? My static just started on it last night and we were taking massive damage but I think we weren't dealing with a mechanic (homing missle) correctly. Everyone was just staying stacked.

Anyone have any healing tips for Turn 8? My static just started on it last night and we were taking massive damage but I think we weren't dealing with a mechanic (homing missle) correctly. Everyone was just staying stacked.
Yeah, if i'm remembering the names of the moves correctly then someone should be dragging homing missile out of the group. Either your OT or -- if you're running solo tank/5 dps -- your most survivable dps should be absorbing that hit. The line is like the snipers in brayflox; if someone runs through it then it attaches to them. Then they can just run to the flank (or anywhere, really, as long as it's not in the group).
That's probably a big part of the problem, but keep in mind that there are a lot of aoe dmg mechanics that are supposed to happen, mainly the defensive reaction. Being familiar with the timing helps quite a bit.
Someone should take the missile thread away from the group, as it hits for the same amount of damage no matter how many people it hits. For healers T8 is all about knowing when the big hits (mainly defensive reactions) will come and being prepared for them, as much as keeping the tank in good health for possible crits and making sure the missile person stays alive for the missile.
Get the Missile out of your group by a Mellee or Bard, avoids massive damage...
be prepared when the Towers blow up (the one with the crosses makes huge raid wide aoe damage) and when the mines drop and they are on the dps/healer side, because some poor dps hast to probable eat it and they hurt good (big deal if one hast to take two, because u usually split the area in sectors and assing ppl to step the mines according to their sector)
The mines have a great radius, so be sure the raid moves far enough if a mine spawns near to your stacking point.
and when allagan field kicks on (about 2/3rd in fight) shield (adlo+stoneskin) this person and move him out so he don“t get hurt by satelite beam, because every damage he takes, will be multiplied and dealt to the raid...
Thanks for the tips. It was our first time in there and while we had watched/read up on the fight we just missed the homing missile mechanic.
Clease the dot off the tank.
When you get to allagan field, timing on proc'ing towers is really important. So if it gets messed up, I start casting a cure3 on the stack when allagan has about 4 seconds left (in case a defensive reactor goes off RIGHT before allagan field -- in which case, massive damage to the raid unless maybe sch got a lucky crit adlo up)
Assign one healer to Esuna/Leeches the bleeding but keep an eye on if it actually gets removed.
As a scholar:
Physick is mostly enough for the first couple phases of the fight, conserve your mana,
make your Faeries spam Embrace which is probably going to be Eos.
X-Ether potions for when you have to raise people or your Faerie gets cleaved by that stupid Dreadknight.
For the Homing Missile you might want to throw an Adloquium on whoever is taking it away from the group,
there's at least 1 occasion when a Defensive Maneuver goes off right before it hits.
Before 'Defensive Maneuvers' (2 aoe tower) 1 of the faerie buffs, either Fey Covenant or Fey Illumination, Sacred Soil and Succor,
Rouse, Whispering Dawn.
Before the mine towers throw a Succor on the group. Be ready to quickly heal people if someone wants/needs to take two mines.
Be careful not to make a big heal go off before the Dreadknight appears.
Adloquium and Stoneskin on the one with Allagan Field.
- conserve MP, make use of Faerie (place her close to the boss)
- Homing Missile - Adloquium / heals (Stoneskin)
- Defensive Maneuvers - Faerie buff, Sacred Soil, Succor, Rouse and Whispering Dawn (Medica II)
- Mine Towers - Succor (Stoneskin assigned ones?)
- Dread - no big heals (Eye for an Eye / Virus)
- Allagan Field - Adloquium / Stoneskin (reapply if they wear off)
- Don't panic and focus!
My advice to you would be to not stop healing. It's one of those fights where you're bound to have some mana issues unless both healers are syncing up well. I'm a WHM with 5.1k mp and I still need ballad for a good portion of the fight. The reason for this is I find no time to be idle. It's one of those fights where your tank can be at max hp and drop really fast (especially when dreads are up). Next is always ss/ requiem for allagan field. also leech/esuna the tank. and don't be afraid to ask for ballad. that's about it for now.
Well, :( my team has me pretty spoiled. We got two bards in our static so it's never really a problem for me on how I choose to use my mp. The problem is I don't spam shrouds, because using constant regen, cures and cure 3s can rack up, so I save shrouds for when dreads pop. D: So yeah about 30% in I'm like "ballad whistle" XD and they're just like.."dammit rosilee" XD
My advice is, don't cleanse the dot.
It hardly does any damage and is a pretty decent indicator of when the next big damage is going to come on the tank.
I don't know about this, it ticks for 600 five times for 3000 damage over 15 seconds. In the long run you save significant MP by just cleansing it. Scholars should generally leeches this rather than WHM because they can use lustrate along with it.
If you're MP efficient you can do this fight without ever needing Mage's Ballad. Using medica II instead of cure III, not using succor cure II or adloquium, etc.
I don't know, I think I'm being MP efficient. I never use Cure III and I only use Cure II for dreadnaughts (not spamming it but usually casting 1 or 2) and when tank is eating mines and on tank after defensive reactions in phases 1 and 2. I use Shroud of Saints for each dreadnaught. Still I use an X-ether and Hi-Elixir during the fight and need a ballad at start of 3rd phase. I'd say it's because I'm still nervous about healing the last phase with double booms but I'm running out of MP right before last phase starts.
In the last two weeks as all folks are now comfortable with the fight, I didn't need ballad anymore and left the fight with 1k MP remaining. Cure 1 Spam and cure 2 Procs, regen on tank. DS+Medica2 after raid dmg and let it tick, because you have enough time till next damage. Regen+SS on Tether/Brainjuck-BRD. SS on Allagan Field. Thats it. No Cure 3. Our AF always does 0 DMG because we time Raiddmg + AF to blow up at the same second always.
As MNK I pop Mantra when the Gaseuos bomb target appears just after the first dread as healers are casting Medica 2 and Succor. Gets everyone topped up fine. The SCH has time to pop cleric stance and do some dottage on Avatar as theres a lull in healing required and WHM can easily keep tank topped up. Then you can rotate Mantra between MNK and BRD.
But yep, homing missile, one person take it away from the party, healers can Adlo and Stoneskin them.
But GL on turn 8, is a fun fight.
SCH advice
if your static is starting then you might need all the dps you can have
so either use Eos and use her healing support to put your dots more often
or focus on healing only and use Selene to boost the DPS a bit
Shield before explosion, before missiles, use your stacks on lustrate mostly or sacred soil if you want during dreads
Use your 3 stacks per minute so you don't have MP issue once you start healing more during Allagan field
Adlo the person with Allagan
I am usually the one leeching the tank of dots (sometimes i just heal through it though)
additional stuff from my team
As SCH I handle 2 towers
I also handle the missile (first one to step in)
I mostly heal t8 with just Selene's embrace.
It's just a matter of knowing when to use certain heals/skills during the fight.
My job as scholar is:
Keep selene buffs up (I use her manually, and I made a macro to ensure I use both with the same button that also triggers embrace).
Don't cast physiks or adlo, keep your GDC clean in order to leeches the debuff immediately.
Use Adlo/Physiks only when the tank gets the dreadnought (we do it with 1 tank alone).
I usually keep my 3 lustrate charges for the defensive tower. After defensive triggers, I spend 2 charges on the tank (with a leeches inbetween for the debuff) and 1 on the homing missile dps guy (the bard in my team). After it, Succor and then Aetherflow.
Repeat on next tower.
During the Allagan Field phase, well, Adlo on fielded guy, and pre-succor + sacred soil the party if necessary.
Either your tank is a beast or your healers get insanely lucky with crits. The DoT effect is incredibly strong.
1.) Whispering Dawn can cover Defensive Reaction damage, if nobody's getting blasted any time soon. Don't waste MP here.
2.) Divine Seal is amazing for Dreadnaughts and double-Defensive Reactions.
3.) Swiftcast for Stoneskin when you have an Allagan Field coming within seconds of a Defensive Reaction blast (and it will happen).
4.) Adlo drains before Stoneskin, so watch the buffs to know what to re-cast.
5.) The off tank only needs extra attention via Regen.
6.) If Shroud of Saints / Aetherflow are off cooldown for more than 10 seconds, you're doing it wrong.
