Please fix :(
Please fix :(
I wonder if this was just an oversight or intentional. I don't see why it wouldn't apply to shield, as everyday combat does. Even for mages w/ shields.
bump! I really hope this gets fixed asap!
Will do a bump as well, this is important for me leveling a Gladiator soon.
I see no need. Sentinel points can be gained while playing 3 different classes (Gladiator, Conjurer & Thaumaturge). If you do more than one of them, Sentinel will be the first "class" you get to R50 anyway.
Yep, I noticed this one too. Hopefully it gets fixed.
But at this point is there a reason to have a separate class for shield skill? I haven't played on GLA since the patch. Do you still need to keep pressing the button to keep your shield raised?
Bump.
I would like a community rep to respond to this as well. Was this an accident or is it functioning as intended. If its a mistake then when will it get fixed, if its not then could we at least get the option to choose to apply our bonus sp from quests towards main hand or off hand?
Just an idea.
Also considering the usefulness of shield skills really only applies to Gladiator, could we not just abolish sentinel rank and combine it with Gla rank? And then Gladiator will still get abilities from shield at the same rank they currently do, only it would be at the specific Gladiator rank instead. As for mages, they could still use shields for extra defense or whatnot, but I dont ever remeber a mage needing shield skills(maybe some situational things) so just have them be Glad skills, that mages could still cross-class if they absolutely needed them.
I never saw this and posted something similar on the Gladiator forum.
Not everyone desires playing through CON & THM just to get shield skill up. Besides, if there are no leve/quest SP rewards for shield, then it makes no difference what class you play. Pre 1.18 had SP point bonuses galore, and shield skill was apart of it. No reason it shouldn't be the same for SP rewards post 1.18.Quote:

Only getting sword skill is going to skew the shield skill at later levels.
Please fix!
Not everyone desires playing CON and THM, but the option is there. The babby days are over.
Also, you're incorrect in stating that pre 1.18 there were bonuses galore for shield. Sentinel SP shared the same SP you got from your class, unless SEN was in fatigue, then it got SP minus the fatigue percentage. Also there was no SP gained after leve/quest completion prior to 1.18.
The game has always had 3 classes able to rank Sentinel, it's your choice whether you take that opportunity or not.
With all due respect, you missed my point entirely. You have Sentinel and Gladiator R50 already, so probably all pre 1.18, but that's besides the point...
However, perhaps what I said wasn't said with utmost clarity. When I said bonus galore, I meant that yes, sword and shield were skilled up with the same SP, but the rates of gaining said SP were also much higher as opposed to how it is now. Furthermore, if there are SP rewards from Main Hand (i.e - I get 1, 750 sword skill and no sentinel skill) and I switch my class to CON or THM, guess what? I'll get 1, 750 Conjury/Thaumaturgy points, but still no Sentinel skill points.
So please tell me how that works. Yes, I am aware there was no SP rewards gained prior to 1.18, but you are regurgitating irrelevant facts. So what if no SP was gained prior to 1.18, things have changed now. If rewards are the way to obtain some good SP now, then there's no reason that offhand SP shouldn't be gained as a reward either.
Finally, I want to level GLA, and even if I wanted to level CON or THM, I'm still not getting the SP rewards for it regardless. So, offhand (in this case, Sentinel) will be horribly skewed no matter what I rank up.
The fact is that we were spoiled pre 1.18 with linking leves. That is what got you the bonuses you speak of, and that's likely why you see this as a nerf. It's the same way that people see THM as nerfed when it was overpowered in the first place.
Edit: To add to this, if you're worried about your SEN rank and missing bonuses, you should be ranking up CON/THM anyways with a shield. If you start at R1 CON/THM and go grind mobs you'll gain SP for both classes (main and Sentinel) at the same rate, and you'll get a higher rate of SP from 1-20. You could gain more Sentinel ranks faster ranking both classes to 20 than you could grinding mobs in the same time with your GLA. There's your bonus!
It's quite easy for the people who were babied up to 50 to say such things...So of course it was easy to get SEN up to 50 for you, regardless of whether you played other classes or just GLA at the time. As a matter of fact, I'm sure it was easy enough because all points were distributed evenly to begin with, whether you linked leves, grinded mobs, got bonus points or not. And this is all regardless of HOW many SPs you got.
Shall I break it down to simplify things further? Because we're all on the same coin, but on different sides of it.
If their intent was to distribute SP evenly between Main Hand and Off Hand, then why shouldn't it be the same with SP rewards?
Furthermore, I never called anything a nerf. I was simply asking why SP was not distributed as a reward for an offhand. How could something be a nerf if it never was implemented in the first place? xD I don't care about the amount of time it takes to get Sword + Sen up as long as I can do it at the same time, because I have also leveled CON to 16 and THM to 10 so far.
Seeing only Main Hand getting SP rewards when SE's intent was for Main and Off Hands to skill up at the same time though, just makes it seem like something was overlooked in the SP reward distribution.
Whether or not this is valid, only time will tell.
Not gaining SEN skill points after completing a guildleve or sidequest is completely stupid, it's about as stupid as the people who think that's the way it should be.
Why should you be rewarded for grinding but penalized for completing guildleves and sidequests?
This is a bump!
bump again
lol I'd have to agree this is kinda lame. It's still not as bad as it was originally to rank shield, but this would definitely penalize people who log on to do mostly leves and need to rank their shield skill.
I think it's an oversight personally, but we'll see. Yoshida did say they're not going to make it harder to rank up, and this definitely makes it harder for shield. Gathering SP is definitely much better, but I haven't tried leves since the patch.
This has to be an oversight. That said, i cant imagine this really affecting anyone other than solo players.
With the attention turned from guildleves and most people turning to grinding, shield skill will still raise just as quickly.
'Tis a bump!
Hopefully this will be fixed soon!!
You have three classes you can use to rank up your shield. The sp gained while fighting mobs on those other two classes should make up for the SP not gained by completing quests. I'm sure that's what they were thinking anyway.
Anyone?! Please?!
