First off, I want to say that patch 1.18 has done some great things, and has finally persuaded me to spend some more time with the game. I've been playing on and off (mostly off) since the testing days; while not a miraculous fix-all patch, 1.18 has single-handedly renewed my faith in the game. Auto-attack works beautifully for the game, and only feels a touch on the slow side. That being said, I feel like the steps forward with this patch definitely overshadow the new complaints that come with it, but there are still a few concerns on my mind.
The first and foremost to me, is how leveling works now. I get that guildleves are now reduced to a secondary solo-oriented feature, but it seems like the new SP bonus for completing a leve doesn't come near the former SP bonus upon killing targets. After doing my full 8 leves yesterday on my rank 17-18 Lancer, it felt like I was getting a fraction of what I was pre-1.18. Grinding at that level doesn't seem particularly feasible, either.
I'm assuming this was meant to gear the game more toward party grinding, like in XI. However, the "Seek Invite" feature still seems lacking. On my server, nobody's used the thing so far, and I've been unable to find anybody forming SP parties, let alone around my rank. I'm wondering if it could possibly be due to the fact I play on Kashuan, which is a fairly low-population server. Either way, suggestions would be much appreciated, or just feel free to comment further!

Also.... They have yet to rebalance the MOB distribution fully... but we have been told that will be done to accommodate more leveling parties with the camps needed to grind if you choose...
We've also been told more world beastmen and beast strongholds are coming in one of the next patches (I wanna say 1.19 but I can't quote that for sure) which should make leveling a heck of a lot easier seeing how Amal'jaa for instance are in the top SP tier in the game. So world grinding Beast MOBs or storming beast strongholds should be just what the doctor ordered
Yoshi P admitted there would be a dip in SP gains between 1.18's guildleve change and the redist. of MOBs -

Absolutely retarded. Got about same with no links.....
Used to get 1k+ per kill now get 100~, gone down 10 times. I could pop out 1 leve for 15k SP and now i get a little over 1k....
And Grinding mobs was no better and god damn i hate grinding, i thought Yoshi wanted to move away from that.
At this current rate, 2k per leve, getting 16k per 36 hours i will hit 1-50 in 4050 hours thats half a fking year lol. -

We are in beta testing for all intents and purposes. The Development Team can't help if some of us has already blown past content that they have now adjusted, and therefore can no longer test it out. Once 1.20 is done, I may just create a new character so I can see all the changes from beginning to end.

Yeah, unfortunately, I always felt as though the main scenario quests were more something to level toward, rather than a means to level by. Not to mention they're much too few and far between to efficiently level. It would be pretty neat if more were added to the "in-between" levels and they were used as a primary means of leveling, however.
I hate that this patch put leveling in such a bad spot, considering it brought such a big fix to the combat system. I'm sure there are others like myself that want to come back and get some leveling in to enjoy the new stuff. Maybe if this makes it to the ears of the development team, we'll see a temp fix in a 1.18a or something until other means of leveling are successfully implemented. As much as I welcome changes to FFXIV, it might have been nice to see the leve adjustments held off a patch or two until these other leveling methods were ready.
On a side note, are there any Beastman camps intended for lower ranks? I've only checked out one, and all the enemies were in the mid-to-high 40's. I'd at least like to get my Lancer to around rank 25 to check out the lower level raid. :P -

I have to agree with the above statements. Got on today to test out the system, was ecstatic about some parts, and then got punched in the nuts.
The new battle system is awesome. Play now feels continuous and well put together.
Haven't gotten to the dungeons yet, but Dungeons, Chocobos, and Settlements oh my.
Then of course I got slapped in the face.
Leves, behest, and grinding are now all about equivalent, and all worse than grinding before due to the heal mp increase, which is disgusting. Spent 4 hours today, got from the beginning of 20 to the beginning of 21. I would have been halfway through 23 in the same amount of time pre-patch.
Party play is also now annoyingly difficult not due to a lack of skill, but because it is impossible to expect a single tank to tank 3 mobs at the same time, and since the healers can only heal one person each, well.........
anyways, my highest class is Lancer 38, and I'm obviously not going to get to 45 to enjoy that dungeon anytime soon. Then with archer at 21, I'm wondering if I should even bother leveling it since it will simply be tedious grinding, especially since behest now has a personal reset time of 1 hour. -

I've done all the main scenario quests up to this point, though I haven't tried any side quests post-patch (maybe I should give those a shot?). Even so, all of those are one-time deals, so there's got to be something more consistent to get ranked up. I'm guessing that, for whatever reason, this patch put us in an in-between spot. Either the nerfs were accidentally a bit too significant, or there are more adjustments on the way to provide more beneficial leveling options.Quote:
