Alexandrite Fate drop rates

Has anyone started a thread or documenting the frequency of the drop rates?
Any particular zone that has better drops etc? If not maybe we can start keeping track here and start working on something :)

I hear it's based on the time of the japanese day.

Statistics are indicating that it's a 1% drop for the person who got the killing blow to complete the fate. If you do not get the finishing blow or participate in a gathering fate, then your odds are (supposedly) 0%.

I heard it's based on the biological clock of the sound director's second cousin on his mother's side.

Very funny.

Anyways, based on all that we know, alexandrites seem to have the exact same level of RNG as atma. I wouldn't expect any time based placebos to make any difference in rate of drops.

I had much better luck with atmas, about 5-10% but I know I was lucky, I've manage to grab 4 alexandrites from just under 500 fates so far, all of them came from Mor Dhona, I would say 400ish of the fates were done there.

I hear it's based on the weather.

I was very lucky with atma drops in FATEs but I have yet to get an Alexandrite from them. I tried for a couple hours in a few areas on the first few days Novous was released and then gave up because it felt like I was wasting my time. The areas I tried and failed at are: Camp Bronze Lake, Camp Overlook, Summerford Farms, Aleport, Camp Bluefrog/Processing Plant and Dragonhead. Every minute I didn't get a drop from a FATE I could have been working towards grinding myth for an Alexandrite.

Just providing some information. I think Alexandrite's are exactly the same as atma's; strictly RNG.

Huh, I'd been under the impression that Alexandrite drops MUCH more rarely from FATEs than Atmas. The way I saw it, the daily quest is the default method for collecting Alex. The devs then realized that folks would be outraged that they'd be forced to spend at a minimum 75 days in order to reach the next stage. In order to appease the ravenous gottagetitnownownow folks, they added HORRENDOUS GRINDS that would allow them to obtain additional Alexandrite, since some people deal better with HORRENDOUS GRINDS than others do. It seemed like a great compromise to me, after the disaster that was the Atma collecting stage.

For my part, I'm satisfied with one Alexandrite per day. I may spend Tomestones on Alexandrite every now and then, and if I happen to get one from a FATE, awesome. But actually farm FATEs for Alex? No. Just no.

I've gotten about 12 in 80 fates. I'm told this is really high rate, but I'm unsure.

I'm completely fine with the myth grind. I do it with FCmates more often than not so it can actually be pretty fun sometimes. Our banter makes time fly.

Pretty much just bet on 1% being the staple for all things required for a very tedious quest that will take you months to complete, thus securing your subscription and giving Square more money. The Hardcore/Masochistic type will have it done in a week, while the Normals will have it done in roughly 4 to 5 months, and the casuals will take over a year, assuming they have even started on this part of the quest.

Even knowing the drop rate is no consolation when you spend hours in a zone just fate grinding away. Sure you can Spiritbond in the process, but it's just another grind, you're in it for the long haul.

That's insanely lucky if true.

I got 1 alexandrite after three fates on the very first day it was released. Haven't seen one since then. I haven't kept track of actual numbers of fates but it has to be at least 100-200. Few hours spent on solid FATE grinding, numerous fates killed in passing and grinding while waiting for party finder to fill up haven't resulted in any more than that first one.

If the weather and moonphase is right and you do a specific emotion looking to a specific direction before the FATE start, you double your chance

It's more likely FATEs were the default for Alexandrites and they added the maps (quest/myth) as the new way.
Imagine if they had released Novus as planned and it was strictly FATE based drops (probably higher drop rate than now though).

What zone(s) please?

Currently 3/366 Alexandrite drops from Central Shroud.

aw now that makes me feel bad to still be on 0. wow.

To everyone asking: It was mainly just doing fates with a friend who was grinding for atma. I was just zoning wherever she went, helping her duo fates.

I am not 100% sure on getting one from a non atma zone, but I'm fairly certain I got one from from a fate in Coerthas Highlands helping a friend with a book fate there. If that's the case, you probably don't need to be in an atma zone to receive.

I think 3% would be just perfect. Seems likely it's set to 1%.

Atma's should be bumped to 3% also now that Novus is out.

9/149 fates North Thanalan according to my fate achievement. Which is about 6% drop rate for me.

Finally got my first Alexandrite drop in Aleport after tons in random areas, did 1 FATE right after doing my Mysterious Map, lo and behold a piece of Alexandrite drops, go figure.

What the Christ am I doing wrong? No Alexandrite from 400-450 fates.

Wow there are some lucky people around here. I got one in about 500 FATEs

This is the place where i go do fates if i try to get alexandrites from fates alone, with new fate scaling you can solo fates extremely fast as there are not many players doing them in this zone. Here you can also use all your skills so no more 1,2,1,2,1,2... and you also get 281 seals from each fate that can be used to buy crafting materials for sale, so even if you dont get alexies you will atleast get some gil's.

Random is random is random

and is why random sucks

EDIT: it's why *extremely low* randomization sucks. Because you're going to get a huge variance in results, with those who have a decent drop rate and others who won't see anything for over 1000 drops.

I got two Alexandrites from 400+ fates, one from Coerthas and the other from Central Shroud, Im farming in Central Thanalan, fates are easier but greedy, didnt drop anything yet
