White Mage using Physick? O.o

Hi!

Yesterday I did a Main Scenario roulette as White Mage. There was another White Mage in the party that was geared much better than me.

What I thought was weird was the fact that he often used Physick instead of Cure.
Is there some sort of benefit to it? Isn't it the same as Cure minus the chance for a free Cure II?

tbh not sure why they would want to, but hey if they are keeping all alive and not having MP issues no need to worry.

Casting pose.. It's different than cure, that person must found it cool. ;)

They're missing out on their procs if they use physick only. Waste of MP.

But I'm presuming using physick doesn't proc the freecure buff, so they're gimping themselves slightly if they are.

in main story roulette if he needs a proc to keep his mp going nothings gonna save him..

Since it's Main Scenario roulette, he probably used it because he liked the casting animation better and wasn't really worried about using the Freecure proc he'd get from Cure. They have the same potency, so they'll heal for the same amount regardless.

Freecure is a useful proc, but it's not really necessary in Main Scenario unless the party's gear is made of tissue paper.

Physick and Cure are literally exactly the same: Same potency and cast time. Freecure does, however, only proc on uses of Cure, so a WHM switching abilities is a bit silly :)

My brother was doing the opposite: SCH curing. Maybe he's leveled a WHM and I didn't know it!

The casting animation is cooler!

Physick doesn't proc anything for a SCH so your only wasting a cross class skill in that case.

If this guy did it in coil, however...

The only time I use Physick is when I'm a BLM, because I couldn't "borrow" Cure after going from THM to BLM. I remember dropping into a dungeon and going "Where's my Cure?!?!!" :D That was when I figured it out. Too late, because I was with a not so great healer who was too busy casting Stone to keep cast Medica when the time was right. Pulled Physick from the ARC immediately after the fight. Can't see why one would use it unless the level set was so low you wouldn't get your freebie from Cure.

Right. When I asked him about why he was using it instead of physick, his response was, "Keeping the tank alive." I think he thought Cure was better lol.

It's a waste of a cross-class slot, but there isn't too much harm in the SCH slotting in cure. Especially if the SCH is young and doesn't have all the cross-class abilities from CNJ and THM yet.

As for the WHM, cure is better than physick only if you have cure2. Low-level dungeons below brayflox will let you use either physick or cure equally well. It is a misuse of a cross-class from a min/max perspective, but it isn't liable to cause a wipe in those dungeons. Higher level dungeons may be another issue, but if the WHM has mp issues, you at least know what to fix. Personally though, whenever physick is cast, I am always reminded that the animation requires a book. Grasping a staff like that just makes me want to put on a mask and scream ham.

So you mean when people use Physick instead of Cure in such a dungeon it's because they think "I'm so great, I don't need Freecure at all and I don't even want it and everyone who uses it here is a noob"? Kinda sounds like that. oO

Then what does it mean that I still use Freecure when I need a Cure II and it pops? Oh my ... but well, I'm only ilvl 80 yet.

I get it if someone uses it for fun though, when he knows that it'll be enough. I still think it's a waste. ^^'

At 50 you really do have a free slot that isn't being used as a WHM. Right now I have Virus/Eye for an Eye/Swiftcast/Surecast/blizzard 2. I have no need for blizzard 2 it does nothing to improve my healing/utility. Not saying physick would be you do have a spare cross class slot as a WHM.

I'm sorry, but this is false. Blizzard 2 has 8 sec bind. It's very useful in critical situation, in certain dungeons.

I don't think he meant that :) I do understand his point also. We don't really need freecure in very low level dungeons.

Player skills always come first, then gear. We shouldn't limit their game and argue over freecure. :p

I'd prefer to not use a 5th slot at all over using a skill that made me look like an idiot.

But yeah, bliz 2 has its uses. Physick doesn't.

It does for the most part. The animation is about 150ms shorter, and since the heal is applied at the end of the end of the animation, it does make physick a shorter heal to cast (of course, GCD still keeps you to the same number of heals per minute).

Here's the simplest answer:

He's doing it for fun. Realistically, when you're geared enough, you can pretty much pretend cure 2 or cure 3 procs don't exist; when you're like ilvl100 (or 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, maybe even 40) in DR: Main Scenario? (where the OP saw that guy, also you don't need blizzard in there, or consciousness for that matter)
