Feature request: Speed Run check box for DF

After being kicked from Brayflox Hard for not wanting to tank a speed run, I just got this idea. A speed run option should be added to the Duty Finder for level 50+ dungeons. This way, people wanting to speed run a dungeon can queue for it, check the SR box, and get grouped with others that want to SR content. By not checking the box, people get grouped with others that haven't checked the box and shouldn't expect the rest of the group to desire or able to speed run something.

.... I think adding Time Attack mode would be more appropriate. ^^;

Also display the fastest record of the week with player names/world on DF menu...

Were they premade? the slowest run of BF should still faster than requeue IMO... ^^;

Dinivas, I might sound crazy to say this, but be glad you got kicked. Any party that's going to force you to do something you don't want to - or HAVE to do, isn't a party you'd want to be in anyways. They can either tank it themselves or go back to waiting and waiting to get a tank when I'm sure they had a perfectly good one.

This is a pretty good idea. Maybe it wouldn't strictly look for only SR groups to avoid longer queues, but like in-progress check box it would be an additional thing for it to look for, while leaving the box unchecked would never bring up a speed run group.

No, I queued with a DPS. I don't know if the healer and other DPS were together.

This is a joke right? This is what Party Finder is for.

I think the bigger problem is that most players now naturally expect a speed run, such to the point that any dungeons that have mechanics that require players to slow down and do more than just run an enemy gauntlet get skipped over, or people leave at the start.

Brayflom HM in roulette? Must be a speed run.
Castrum Meridianum, with a mostly veterans and just a few first timers? Must be a speed run.
Crystal Tower? Oh, gotta speed run!

This is what leads to crap like "It's not Brayflox, so I quit" or overall poor habits like enemy lockouts (no really, teach a brand new lv 50 Tank/DPS that this is what they're SUPPOSED to do. . . see how well that ends for them in other content). Yes, the Party Finder will allow for people to get exactly what they want, but inversely, the Duty Finder does not automatically mean it's a speed run.

I think we all need to get over this rabid obsession with hitting caps and doing so as quickly as possible. Yes, I understand that current trends/content pretty much encourage farming (something I personally find terrible and refuse to reinforce), but to the point where the larger majority expect speed runs or that anyone would suggest adding a designator for speed runs (which, let me say is NOT a bad idea, merely redundant), then we have a problem.

EDIT: Let me add that - as my own personal choice as a player - I have chosen not to partake in the Zodiac Saga. I threw away my first book, I barely do FATES (a necessary evil as I recently switched GCs), and I am definitely NOT lacking for things to do. I've been helping others learn Ex Primals, challenging Turn 5 to reach SCOB, actually crafting for a change, and leveling the classes I felt like I was never going to level, even making a return to tanking. . . And all because I'm NOT wasting my time, energy, and myth tomes on any aspect of the Zodiac Saga.

Am I saying "be like me, I'm the one who's right"? No. I am merely citing my own example to say that I am free and I am enjoying almost everything that the game currently has to offer, at the expense of trying to complete content that was designed to trade skill for time. I don't speed run ANYTHING. And I still get all the tomes I need for whatever I want. I don't even TRY to cap weekly. . . yet lately, I do without even realizing it. I've run Brayflox HM twice in a week's time (and that's enough), and I feel I have more to show for it than those who farm it through speed runs.

Liberate yourselves people. There's more to this game than speed runs, "Mythflox", and Zodiac.

I remember (hate to do this) in XI for the BCNM's they would show you what the fastest time was and who did it. It would be nice to have something like that for those that care.

DF is DF, I wish people would stop expecting SR's in DF. For me, SR's in DF are a bonus, I go in with the expectation that it will be a normal run, might get to teach a newbie how the duty works etc.

Sorry to hear that but folks are right, be glad you got kicked. They wait now for replacement and you re-q for quick pick up and a much better run.

Ever join a CT where That One Tank pulls immediately upon entering each boss room? No ready checks, no communication, just in a rush to start every fight? Or the one Alliance that doesn't seem to want to stay on their pads at Atomos, yet downs their boss first? How about the Alliance that completely ignores their adds and does nothing but burn down their Vassago?

Suddenly recall that FF11 was called as "Bone Bone Fantasy" bcoz players of any level range had to kill Bones(skeleton) in corresponding lv to level up.... ^^;

Even if such a button would exist, poeple would give a darn about it and still expect a speedrun even if not checked. Speed is the keyword of FF14. Speedy myth runs, speedy aborting after 1 fail, speedy wipes in "weekly kill" parties. God bless 'ya, Speed!

I can kind of support the idea of a "time attack" or "speed-run" mode, but it should also be kept in mind that the developers probably didn't make the dungeons just so that they could be completed as fast as possible.

All speedrun dungeons should be restricted to 5 minutes, no retries.

Anyone dies, whole team gets kicked out.
Can't complete in time? Too bad. Everyone gets thrown out.
Loot only after last boss/enemy killed.

I'm not attacking your ideas, merely providing a practical look at some of the cons:

First, 5 minute restrictions would basically enforce set party makeups. For example; if you don't have WAR/BLM/BRD/WHM, it's just not going to happen, or people will drop at the start. Anyone not playing those classes (again, just an example, not interested in the specifics) would be at a loss.

Anyone dies, whole team gets kicked out - Abusable. If someone doesn't want to speed run, gets upset, or wants to troll, they can do this and waste everyone's time. Consider queue times as well. . .
Can't complete in time? Too bad. Everyone gets thrown out - This is already the penalty for not completing a dungeon with the generous time they give. Severe time limits would actually discourage speed running. Also, abusable by trolling, AFKing, and don't forget, life happens. Even if people are speed running, they may need to stop for a reasonably short time.
Loot only after last boss/enemy killed - A bit of a moot point as most people don't SR for loot/gear. I assume you mean tomes, and if so, that's fine. But again, that woud only drive people away to the "easier" options. And again, abusable and prone to bad luck. If someone DCs just before completion and the party is throw out, then that was 5 minutes or so wasted for nothing.

"Speed run" tick box being a good idea , Wuldnt go well with SE , cuz it will give experienced players a choice not to run with new people and DF timers wuld increase further for them, which wuld bring more complaints. My thought anyway. Mabe add extra challenge in dungeons? Killing every single mob in dungeon=20/30 myth?
