I think it will eventually, but it is probably not going to be a substantial change in 2.3. If anything it might be a slightly higher drop rate or something buried away in the code (0.5% drop to 1.0% drop), but nothing like you can buy Atma with tomes or seals until 2.35 or the next stage after novus or until SE realizes most people don't have an atma or have no desire for one.
There was a joking comment on the youtube channel which said "ATAMAs will be the currency for Golden Saucer."
Gave me a good laugh.
The most amazing change that could ever happen regarding Atmas:
People STOP creating threads every single day complaining about them
do ppl who are still doin atma know what is waiting for them after that fate grinding? Ö_Ö
just curious....
maybe they should pre-post flamethreads bout animus and novus...
Most people seem more or less ok with the myth grind. It's huge, but it's progress is tangible, and doesn't rely on FATEs or RNG.
To op, i don't think an atma buff will come for 2.3. I can reasonably see a buff for 2.35 or 2.4 considering that they'll want to let some of the population catch up before further buffing relics or allagan tomestones.
There hasnt been many threads flaming Novus, is it just that the casuals havent gotten there yet? I'm only 5 Melds in, but I am glad its less about Rng, but a little annoyed at materia prices atm.
I've heard very few complaints about Animus/Novus because they have visible progression. You can't spend 15 hours working on it to not see a single Atma drop and you advance Animua/Novus by doing things that are a bit more entertaining than killing lvl 5 mobs until you hate your life.
The difference between atma and animus/novus is that you can spend a week doing nothing by grinding fates in a single zone and have nothing to show for it, while spending the same amount of time on animus or novus will have very visible progress towards achieving your goal.
I have done about 6 hrs so far on getting Atama and nothing has drop. It gets really dull rather quickly
.
Already said that there won't be any changes anytime soon.
I would personally grind non stop on the animus and novus phases till it was done but I refuse to even start it because I aint doin that atma grind bs. Just like others have said, you can see yourself getting somewhere on the animus/novus stages. Atma stage sucks...period.
That being said, I doubt they'll adjust it just yet.
I doubt they'll adjust it at 2.3, but possible at the first sub patch like 2.35 or something.
Will bug me if they don't. Content that is intentionally not fun at all should never go unchecked for this long. The Atma grind is poorly thought out and poorly implemented. No sign of progress and it's difficult to multitask in game or irl while doing it due to having to constantly race around the map. No real side benefits as the GC/gil gained is atrociously low for the time invested. It's a stall tactic designed to prolong subs and nothing more.
The Atma horror story I think has been one of SE's biggest mistakes. It really is tedious, long and boooooooooooooooring. Killing level 5 flans with ruins for 70 hours is absolutely atrocious and whoever that came up with that idea should've really...thought of something better. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to sound like an hypocrite because I've done the atma quest, I wanted my relic because I like my SCH very much, but the books and the scroll from novus, despite being SIGNIFICANTLY longer, are far more entertaining. I remember, after going through the atma horror story (which took me 2 weeks), I said to myself, if SE does something similar to this a couple times more, I'm out. Good thing they learnt from their mistakes, but they messed it up in the past and can't really fix it now...because if they do people that went through the atma horror story will be butthurt over people having a lot less trouble doing it, and that would be unfair. So they'll probably wait a bit more.
I don't know if its just been good luck to run into the only 20 or so polite people ever to play the game, but I've seen more atma farmers running up on fate and just killing mobs one by one, not flash/bliz2 spamming... Just playing the game. I dunno about others' opinions, but this has been a huge quality of life improvement for me. Only 15/12 atmas so far, but I'm not really hating it at all. If you want the relic options, get in there and do the content.
Should not be changed now thay I've grinded countless hours on 10 atmas.
Think of Atma this way:
It's a great opportunity to spirit bond for materia you'll need.
/runs away
K so yoshi is putting it like this,
Atma is for weeding out the lazy and ppl without time to spare.
Animus is for weeding out the people who are burning themselves out on bray hm and ppl without more time to spare on the 3 fates.
Novus is for weeding out the poor, the bards , and the ppl who don't have access to ppl that can help them.
After all that we are left with ppl that have a lot of time to spare, have a lot of gil and the will to grind more fates for extra alexandrite.
This is most likely due to the fact that participation is all that matters for atma drops. Getting gold isn't required, just as long as you get in there and whack a few mobs. Spamming comes from the desperate tag race that is more necessary for leveling via fates.
^ this. What you may think is "polite" people are actually most likely some of the most selfish in the game now. Theyre the ones who know that any speck of participation will get them a completion, so they hit a few mobs and run to the next fate expecting others to stick around and finish it for them while they get the benefit.
I wish. If anything the Novus questline needs to be reworked its like SE is saying please support RMT or quit your job and just play our game because you won't have time for anything else. Stupidest idea for a game geared towards casual.
I know the Novus is targeted towards the 1% who enjoy this sort of thing but when you factor in the (amount of in-game time) x (RL) most of us might no even achieve it until 2.35 at the earliest. I would rather have it so the Novus only requires you to beat the Brutal BC 1-5 to get it atleast there you get a sense of working together instead of a singular monotonous grind.
This is a little off topic but lolno... A single Expert Provisioning turn in is worth, at minimum, twice as much as the highest lvl FATEs with regards to GC. You can expect to get a lot of drops in a very short time in mythflox, each of which translate to over 800GC a pop... compare this to the 20-200GC you get for fates that can take longer than a single mythflox run. Not to mention submitting standard crafted items to your GC which can, in <10min of work, get you more GC than you can earn in 10hrs of FATE grinding. FATEs are a terrible way to get GC no matter what level you're at because even before you can do Expert Provisioning the GC Hunting Log and Dungeon/Hest rewards cover the gap.
This could also be seen as a sign that more and more people have caved in and are botting fates.
I could probably find things to complain about in the next steps, but I have zero atma still. I'm not sure I fully understand what you do for the Novus stage because I've had no reason to look into it. I know you use materia and alexandrite, but I don't even know if it's one or the other or both, or what else is involved.
Um, please point out the part in my OP that's complaining about atmas. I don't mind grinding atmas honestly, but if there's a chance that changes will be coming soon I'd rather wait. Wouldn't you be frustrated if went through that whole grind and then the next day SE announces "oh btw, we're going to double the drop rate for atmaslol"?
Thanks, for the discussions everyone. I think I'm going to wait until the Patch 2.3 notes are revealed before continuing the atma quest.
That is a good idea Sacred-Oblivion. It took me close to 12 hours to just get 1 atama. And I don't relish getting the other 11 if it is going to take the same amount of time.
This should never, EVER be a developer concern. People who work hard toward a goal in an MMO and convince themselves that there will never be better gear, or there will never be shortcuts added, etc, are deluding themselves. To survive, an MMO HAS to keep pushing forward, offering better and better carrots to keep people playing. At the same time, to prevent the game from becoming inaccessable to new players, older content needs to be made simpler and simpler.
The Atma acquisition system will probably not be changed anytime soon, but it will be made easier eventually. The reward that people who did it the old, harder way get, is that they got their weapon done FIRST. Any MMO player should understand this: For any given item X that took you hundreds of hours or hundreds of failed instances to get, two years down the line item X will be handed to newer players on a silver platter. But don't worry - you'll still have item Z to strive for, and you'll have it to wave in the faces of those item X newbies!
Nope. The only ones that will achieve a decent rate are high level "uncapped" FATEs, which you won't get to do for most of your atmas.Quote:
Um... FATES are the fastest way to gain GC seals in the game
You will get seals much faster by spamming Brayflox and picking up all the i70 gear that people inevitably skip while speeding through the dungeon. It doesn't even have to be Brayflox specifically, any level 50 dungeon will drop i55/60/70 gear that a lot of people won't even bother to lot.
I think the drop rates are fine, but I do wish they would increase after your first Atma weapon. I can't see myself doing it again if I decided to main another class.
Never EVER? I think the absolute never ever is incorrect. of course game developers are worried about making players feel like their achievements mean nothing. See: outrage of tanks feeling "slapped in the face" because the tank mount didn't take into account previously tanked raids. The outrage was so intense that SE had to make a statement to explain that previously tanked raids didn't count because they weren't keeping track of that data. See also: the forums outrage anytime SE announces that content is going to get nerfed. The outrage of nerfed content gets intense. Of course, SE is going to worry and be concerned about the outrage. As they should be.
Atma farming will get nerfed at some point. Everything in this game does. But it won't be in 2.3 or 2.4 or 2.5. I predict that it won't get nerfed until the entire zodiac quest is released.
On that note, I finally got my gae bolg atma last night. atma farming sucks. but once you finally have all 12 it feels pretty amazing.
That's the whole point, though - believing that their achievements mean nothing is a player attitude, and a faulty one at that. Their achievements DID mean something - for a while after achieving, they were on top of the world. Folks brandishing their ilvl 95 Allagan weapons were, for a time, holding the best weapons in the game. That is meaningful! If any of them believed for an instant that a six-month old game would provide them with the best of the best, period, for ever and ever nothing will be better than this, then that is a problem with those players, not with the developers.
The other sorts of outrage you mentioned are different kinds of outrage. Of course players are going to complain whenever SE makes changes that don't favor them; that's a given, and on occasion the complaints are even valid. The outrage I'm talking about is strictly "I worked hard for the best gear and now it's not the best anymore" outrage. I believe that kind of outrage is unreasonable, and that SE should not bend over to accomodate whiners of that kind.
Nope, they said they wouldn't touch this for the time being. Maybe, if 2.4's Zodiac continuation gets to be another pain in the ??? massive grind I can see them easing on the previous grinds so can move on. If 2.4's is actually new, fun, engaging, hard content then I can see them not touching ATMAs or Alexandrites for a longer period of times as this type of content can be completed way faster (Base Relic speed vs Relic Atma/Relic Animus speed).
Why the bards?
my original comment to this was longer, but I've decided to make it a lot shorter.
Player attitude is everything to game developers. It is then on the developers to determine what attitudes are "faulty" or "valid." Though, I wouldn't use those words. I think it's more like developers have to determine what feedback is important enough for them to incorporate.
