Yep! Rogue/Ninja was just a little tidbit. Let's look forward to more info soon.
Oh geez.... I pretty much just pulled a Yoshi P, didn't I? >_<
They had to keep some big announcements for Thursday too :P
I hate to burst some of your bubbles but thursday is all about 2.3. Its part 2, its why its labeled as Part XV
I'm not holding any hope for musketeer anymore...
Had the chance to show it WITH Rogue/Ninja. Just like how they had the showcase video for ACN/SMN/SCH (3 new 'roles', mind you, rather than 2). 2.2 storyline had Rogue/Ninja written all over it with animations from the class itself (hinted AoE ability during the CS). The question was "any new classes/jobs?" in the first place, so why waste time answering that question again two days later?
Musketeer has nothing showing it's coming other than the icon and NPC 'everyday training' animations which showcase nothing of it's class. Not to mention Limsa has it's 'third' guild now... which is 'not' musketeer.
Aka we only have the manpower to include one new class per year...
I have a feeling that summary was overzealous about what was actually said...
While I'm certain I recall something about a gun class I can't find it in live letter 14 or the last nico event.
If someone can dig it up it would help.

They explain there why Gun class wasn't announced. :/
Edit: Same interview Llen mentioned. ^
I sure do hope so, releasing just one new class/job is better then zero, but two would be better as it would give people more options for diversity. :)
I'll remain in the uncertain part until a offical trailer of the Gun class is revealed first.
If it true then yeppie! I can finally play a Gun class.
If not ah well that gives me time to train Rogue/Ninja and gearing up again.
They seem really concerned with keeping things balanced, so to me releasing 2 dps classes (1 ranged, 1 melee, and it's not looking to be simultaneously unfortunately) would be a way to keep things balanced, dps-wise when it's all said and done. Obviously 1 melee in the next patch or 2 would leave us with 3 ranged jobs, 3 melee jobs. The future patches could bring at least another dps (I'd put my money on a gunner class, just for the sake of balance and the demand for it) as well as a tank and healing job with the expansion.
I remember reading somewhere, some time ago, about Yoshi saying that since this game lacks a "scout-type class" that it would the the first to be added. Otherwise we probably would have got Red Mage and Blue Mage first. Just be patient.
Maybe not MSK specifically, but he did mention gun class along with dagger. It's not surprising people expected gun too, Yoshi himself said there would be one coming soon. They seemed to have backtracked since then but that's not the same thing as expecting something we shouldn't have.
Here are the facts:
1. XIV 1.0 alpha launched. All of the current classes save for Arcanist were out at launch, with Arcanist and Musketeer being "close to launch."
2. 2.0 launched with Arcanist, one of the missing classes. Those of us who were excited for Musketeer were annoyed, but we'd already waited two years by that point.
3. In an interview at last E3, Yoshi said that "it's not about what classes I want to put in but rather which ones I have to put in" and made mention about a gun class. He also said something to the effect of wanting to make it a dual-wielding class.
4. In a more recent interview he said that we'd be getting more classes before the next expansion. The gun class was alluded to as being "not what we all expect."
5. E3 rolled around this year and he showcased the Rogue class with one of its jobs, Ninja. No mention of Musketeer anywhere except for an interview with 2p.com where he basically sums it up as "We're doing Rogue before Musketeer because something something pvp."
So you're right, he never promised the class. Tanaka promised the class way back, but that's ancient history now. What he has done is tease the class endlessly, adding to how annoying it already is that we've had to wait for four years without even a mention of the thing. I have every right to expect the class, as does every single player who's been waiting on it since 1.0.
Everyone keeps bringing up when he said dagger and guns coming sooner than we thought, but he said not what we expected. EVERYONE expects musketeer, so you know...even when he announces it, it might not be musketeer, but something else entirely. I dont think he ever said dagger and guns would be at the same time, just after 2.3, but regardless, he's given his reasons on why no msk.
Not to mention, it might not be that far off anyway. He said before launch of ARR, the first expansion would be around a year after launch, and 2.4 will be the 1 year mark. The timing for 2.5 will be christmas. The plotline thus far has focused on a new primal each time, and after Shiva in 2.4 we're left with...what? The expansion, which we know will have new classes, could be around 2.5 or 2.6 time. We know they're working on the gun class so if it's not out with rogue, it'll most likely be out then, along with the tanks and healers he mentioned coming then, which IMO is much better timing.

Couldn't find the official video but I think they released that video the same time as E3 2013's time I think? Their 'promotion' at this time had the video showcasing all 3. And tbh 2-3 months of 'arcanist in development' during that beta phase is roughly the same as how rogue was teased with 2.2's patch.
Looking for this video's release also further shows that SE probably only has the manpower for one class a year...
I'd imagine so, seeing Archer is all about spamming 111112 for awhile. Then that whole crit DoT business end-game. They're damage is based on steady output... kinda like monk (but not as 'fun' as monk).
Anyone noticed he described gunner as a physical Black mage?
I think a lot of people are just annoyed that there are hints of a gun class in the game, but we haven't heard anything about it but really vague information. I'm sure if you've looked around limsa you've seen the banners with dual pistols on them, and that many NPCs carry a gun in a holster. Merlwyb uses guns as a weapon. It's teasing the players to the point that it's frustrating. Yoshi hasn't "promised" them, but people can't help it if they jump to the conclusion that we are getting a gun class at some point.
Why are they factoring pvp into anything? All people use it for is wintrading and glamor gear.
He's been saying for much longer that a unique stealth class would be a higher priority than a gun class considering there's already a bow class and two other ranged DPS. I'm sure a gun class is coming soon, and you insulting him is not gonna make it happen any faster.
Why should he remove it? He's still going to add it, he just didn't say when. He has never said it will be at the same time or before rogue, that's the community's own fault for making assumptions. It could still be before the expansion but after 2.4, at latest probably the expansion which should be soon ish.
And by that same logic I could say that we already have two melee damage dealers and only one range physical attacker, why add a 3rd melee ?
But saying for much longer stealth has been a priority I'm not so sure on I know he mentioned scout a few times but he also mentioned guns, dark knights and red mages as examples in other interviews. Unless of course you can link me to such an interview in which case my bad I just don't remember it being said.
I agree with it being a bit in the slap in face for people who have been waiting for a gun class since 1.0 like myself. I would not mind it not being released ( Ninja looked good btw! not hating on ninja) if you just gave us some sort of hint even a clue as to what direction you are taking it in just something, anything its been 4 years for some of us.
He did mention those yes. But he specifically mentioned a stealth class as being the priority class he wanted to implement first. Then a gun class after only cause the guild is already in game.
He's also already told us the gun class wouldn't be how we thought it was going to be. And given his most recent interview sawing it would be too similar to a Mage class playstyle it seems a given that it won't be a ranged physical Dps. Hence your counter falls apart. ;)
Gun Mage :) or Machinist with elemental gun/bullets
He's saying we're short a physical ranged attacker, which I agree. I'd think that more important than a third melee dps.
