Ninja does not excite me in the least bit...Anyone else share this sentiment?

What's in a name? They called scholar "scholar", but he's really a fairy handler that holds a book. The name doesn't offer any description to its playstyle, so how would you know you wouldn't like ninja before you try it?
I was disappointed it wasn't Thief, but I wouldn't say I lost all interest by any stretch.
Ninja is the reason I quit Scholar as of today.
Did they say what type it was? I was hoping for tank, but I saw someone say dps? Or was that just a guess.
i was hoping it'd be thief or assassin instead of ninja, but i've still always been interested in rogue-like classes, so i'm sure i will still play it
Well guess I'll join the Naruto crowd, I still hope they bring a second job advancement (Thief) for those folks who don't wanna play Ninja with the other kids in the backyard.
I'll just refuse to call it Ninja but stick with Rogue because in my book Ninjas are not cool.
why the f, ninja is not cool? it was like coolest killer ever XD
You guys sound like a bunch of little kids "LOL NINJA ISN'T COOL" "WUNT THF WHY U NO GIV" "NO PLAYH CUZ NUT THRF"
Seriously, how the hell would the two play any differently besides the name? They both attack from behind, they are both crit based, they both dual wield, etc. It's like if I presented you with two cakes, both of which are obviously chocolate, but told you one was Vanilla and you started to kick and scream because you don't like vanilla.

Exactly.
Give it time, we will make it into something the devs didn't intend.

I assumed Ninja and Thief would use the same class based on... (would-be spoilers). Perhaps they are still working out the details.
Hey everyone,
First off I'm not sure how many of you watched the live stuff from E3 (not actually live, but the footage no less). Its quite long, so I can't say I blame anyone for not wanting to. Though, I took the time to look for all the important info.
Check it out here; in case you missed it:

One thing I have to say about all this is how confusing the information was. Like the fact that both of the mention "job/classes" used the same abilities; except ninja had ninjitsu on top of poisons/etc. Another odd thing is if you look at the screenshots of both, they have the names in other languages; french/german. So for the heck of it I used google translator on the supposed "rogue" name in german, and it came out to "scoundrel". Not really sure how scoundrel = a rogue lol. I mean I'm sure it can stem from it, but either case my point was alot of translation mistakes were made (not saying google translator is perfect, though the person translating apparently had just came back to work very recently..).
So even with all the info I've seen I'm still not sure if the base class is rogue, and the advanced class is ninja. This could perhaps fit in with how everyone is saying "some base class" --> stems to adv ninja and thief/rogue jobs. If they did go this route where one base class goes to two jobs; then perhaps the same will be done with the existing classes!
Now they did give a pretty good reason for why they choose these; namely the storyline. They felt they didn't want to introduce jobs/classes outside of it. Minus musketeer, which has had its own guild in LL since 1.0.
Now despite all this, they did mention other jobs were coming. Specifically during the expansion is what was translated by "Bayhome" I think the mods name was (forgot how it was spelled). I'm guessing it could come down to alot of factors outside of what we know; like play testing, and or bugs from creating new skills. But despite how happy/sad everyone is at the new jobs; they basically announced several new jobs coming. That's the best news I've heard yet! We were sure it was coming, but its good to hear a clarification that they do intend to hold this true.
The oddest take of all of this is the fact that they will have to make an entire new guild for ninja/rogue (whatever you want to call it). Instead of using a class that already has a guild (namely musketeer lol). Another point I read is that this may effect fate que balance of classes, but won't disrupt game play balance (long as the new jobs are balanced skill wise themselves). Coding direct damage skills is probably alot easier than doing tank/enimity or healer skills (unless they just rehash what already exists).
Your other points notwithstanding, rogue and scoundrel are synonymous. Both mean a dishonest or immoral person, with a penchant for mischief and cruelty.
I think, at this stage at least, it seems pretty clear that Rogue is the class and Ninja is the job that stems from that class. The crossover of skills and styles would indicate that, as with all other class/job combos in the game.
Shadow FTW!!!!!
(Where's my Interceptor Pet)
NIN FTW! Shinobi can I have it?
