By raiding
Coil and levi ex give equivalent or better i believe. I haven't done either so can't say for sure. The problem with those is they are random drops so you could potentially have to do them many times successfully.
High Alagan.
High Allagan weapons are the best weapons in game, item level 115 (turn 9 drop). Soldiery weapons are item level 110 and comparable to Novus weapons (need soldiery tomes and items from turn 7 and turn 8). Leviathan weapons are item level 100 (when upgraded with mirror).
Killing Levi = i95 Wave Weapon
Wave Weapon + Mirror (>1% drop from Levi kills that you can roll for) = i100 Tidal Wave Weapon
T7 (unidentified allagan Tomestone) + 1300 Soldiery Tomes = i100 Weathered Weapon
Weathered Weapon + Sands of time (T8) = i110 Weapon
T9 = i115 Weapon
They really need to up the drop rate for those dumb mirrors. Not much reason to spam Leviathan EX when the droprate is so rare and the weapons are only fractionally better.
Don't think ppl get the point of the original question.
To Answer - while there are alternative weapons, No there is no better way to get Novus other then to GRIND, GRIND AND THEN GRIND SOME MORE. I've finally come to peace with this as should everyone else. What I mean is that yeah unfortunately its supposed to take time (ITS AN MMO) maybe it will take a week maybe 2 months. From what I hear (Atma, and Novus) will become a little easier in 2.3. Animus will proboly stay the same. As I said I made my peace with the 13500 Myth but I wish those damn Book Fates would pop faster thou.
2.28 gave crafters a much needed pat on the back.
HOWEVER - The Atma grind for me is what I thought sucked and will still give me nightmares. (Literally grinded for 3 weeks 6 hours a day to finally get my Atma)
I think everyone here understands the question just fine. He was asking for less grindy weapons he can obtain. People have offered up all the alternatives at this point in time.
Do T9 for the high Allagan (ilvl 115)
Do Levi EX for the weapon and mirror (ilvl 95/100)
Do three weeks of soldiery gathering and Coil 2 for the soldiery weapon (ilvl 100/110)
Do the Animus/Novus quest (ilvl 100/110)
People should look less on item level and more on the stats. Having an itl115 weapon while there isn't a itl115 set is useless. You will never get above itl110 overall. You have to check what's best in slot for you.
And if you think T9 isn't as grindy as Animus/Novus, you're being delusional. You first have to beat previous turns, you will have to farm it for weeks until your weapon drops, you'll need some gear check before you enter T9 from previous turns. Having in mind you can only get a T9 kill (if you ever do, lol) per week, people should never exclude relic series just because they're grindy. After all it's gonna take the same time as the alternative options. Just my opinion.
Do t7 to get the unidentified allagan tomestone. Then get 1300 soldiery and goto Rowena's stand. You can then buy an i100 weapon. Then you beat turn 8 and get the sands of time item to then go back to Rowena and upgrade the weapon to i110.
Also, they've announced the new CT will drop the Sands of Time item. So it might eventually be possible to get the upgrade from CT, but you'll need to beat turn 7 at least.
All of the options are grindy. Look at the Levi weapons. You may have to fight him and beat him 25 times just to get your i95 weapon. Then you may have to farm him 50 more times just to see a mirror drop, that you then have to roll against 7 other people for to upgrade it to 100.
Soldiery, you have to grind 3 weeks worth of Soldiery and grind whatever turns of Coil 2 drop the tomestone you need for the 100 level version. Then grind Coil 2 for the oil/sands to upgrade it.
Hm, that depends on what you consider grindy I suppose. I would rather wipe 200 times in turn 9 and have another tank take my weapon 10 times before getting my dream weapon, than mindlessly play the game with one hand for a month to get my atma weapon. Idk. :s
As long as it's engaging I'm getting my money's worth.
Edit: Sorry for double post.
