Alternate methods to pay for subs?

Looking for one, and please don't state the obvious get a debit/credit card. Numerous bad experiences with them in the past and I refuse to use them.

Is it possible to get crysta for the sub using a prepaid visa card or something of the sort? If not I can try to get a time card through gamestop online or something but I'm looking for the quickest method possible without having to deal with shipping or something else.

And if the prepaid does work how much is suggested to be loaded on there for say about 60 days?

You can use prepaid cards like Ultimate Game Cards to buy Crysta.
There are also official FFXIV 90 day sub cards you can buy, if you can find them where you live. (I can't.)

I don't see why you couldn't use a pre-paid debit card. As for amount, I think it depends on what your subscription is. If it's a basic subscription ($12.99 USD) then at least $25.98 USD or 2,598 in Crysta. But I think you can find out via the Mog Station how much it would cost if you paid for X amount of months in advance (and that tends to be cheaper).

Oddly enough, I have not seen pre-paid game time cards for FFXIV (or for any MMO other than WoW) at my local Wal-mart, K-Mart, Target or Gamestops. (Which was part of the reason I had to un-subscribe to Warhammer Online a few years ago. Wal-mart and both of my local Gamestops ceased carrying the pre-paid game time cards.)

I've checked my gamestop and they have every other mmo time card but FFXIV, it really irks me -_- I did read about the UGC but I have no idea if gamestop stocks it or not but that's an option if it does. (I live in a backwater hick town so stuff like this is hard to come by.)

See I thought a prepaid card could work since I've done it for other online games, but when I checked to be sure most said it wouldn't work at all. Though this was back in September when services first started.

I mean sure if the card doesn't work I can just use the card to by a time card online, I'm just the impatient type who doesn't want to wait a week for something like that to come in. Or pay extra for just a card.

The fact that there is no paypal option has always irked me.

I use the prepaid time cards from SE myself.

I have to wonder about the politics of nobody carrying their card. Like if they won't give them a fair cut or what. Since the only way to get a prepaid card is by buying one online with a credit card is kind of pointless.

I bought my copy of FF14 through Steam. I pay for my subsction through that, which connects to PayPal which connects directly to my bank account. I hate using credit cards online.

i've been paying my sub through Steam and i'm pretty confident you can use prepaid Visa cards and the like with Steam.

Pre-paid Visa cards I've seen people have issue with at blizzard, because the lack of their account name on the card throws up a lot of red flags. Depends on the sort of card I guess? Maybe someone who uses them could enlighten. I don't know why you would trust paypal and not a bank, they're basically a bank except don't take on near the amount of liability when it comes to fraud, leaving you worse off if something went wrong.

Just take off your tinfoil hat, listen to what you don't want to hear and get a debit/credit card. It turns out withdrawing from the institutions of modern society has consequences.

Lol well it turns out my walmart has a time card and I got the last one. I'm kind of surprised since this is a really rural town, though they weren't here back in April, not to mention it barely being available elsewhere. Not complaining though, saved me a headache.

Also there is an option to use paypal, if you click ultimate game card the option for it is under that. And yes I know its harmful to the economy to not use a credit/debit card but at the same time there are people like me who refuse to touch them for various reasons and there should be a better method for those people to play as well.

Ultimate Game Cards is retiring in august, it wouldn't be too good of an idea to get overly used to using them now

I've seen it all. Do your carry around thousands of dollars on you in cash? if you're worried about fraud get a good bank. usually less than 24 hrs and my money is back. things happen. I'd personally much rather have my debit card stolen than a wad of cash. as someone said take off your tin foil hat and stop listening to those voices.

Not sure if you're a child or what, but you can't get far in the US w/o a credit card so when you grow up you'll need to get one. In fact, the longer you wait, the worse off you'll be. No credit is actually worse than below average credit. Not sure why you like to have hotels and gas stations place large $200-$500 hold on your card instead, but good luck trying to buy a house. You're only hurting yourself.

OP said s/he refuses to -use- one, not necessarily that they don't have any. I refuse to use mine for anything except the bare base needs or absolute emergencies. Nothing wrong with not using one for every day simple purchases or online shopping.

@OP: That said, I'd suggest using a pre-paid, or if SE doesn't allow that, you can use prepaid to buy a time card from Gamestop.com Here, keep in mind that this method, they ship the actual card, so you'd need to buy ahead of time to get it before your sub runs out.

For those of us that bought the game before it was released on steam, there is no paypal option. There is also no option for paypal in the mogstation, so there is officially no paypal option.

You have to buy Crysta through Ultimate Pay on your SE account management page. As the person above this post noted Pay Pal is there.

I am 31 my credit score is 763. I never owned a credit card in my life. Credit cards are one of the dumbest was to go about managing your money. There are better was to build your credit then getting a credit card.

And therein lies the rub... currently the system taps the Ultimate Points system. When they started this mess ages ago, you got the option of creating a UP account. You get free bonus UP points for set up, and they had activities you could do to get more free points. You could also buy UP from just about anywhere in the world (had vendors based in Brazil, Venezuala, etc. that weren't normal options on the SE pages). To this day... I still get the notice about my UP balance before buying Crysta, even though it is now 0 since they shutdown the free points site.

With UP going offline, the Ultimatepay portion will need to be revamped...all depends on how SE and Visa are going to manage this going forward.

Really hope SE will acknowledge this issue soon, even if no solution is in the works yet.

did you not read that SE is already working on solutions and additional options? plus there is the 60 day game cards that you can buy anywhere online that's only 30 dollars so that there fixes the problem for everyone as well.
