The latency issues will never be fixed. WTFast is pretty much a requirement for anything with a lot of movement.
Difference between minor latency and the server lag that everyone on Balmung is experience today. You can't raid with it and dungeons take an extra 20 minutes with so much lag.
Even with Pingzapper I still got lag spurts but its not often. But when I do I cant do anything for a good 10 seconds.
Yep several months ago. I have time warner so they played the blame game that everyone's complaining about. SE says its TW's fault, TW said its SE's fault. Nothing has been done since the beginning of ARR and nothing ever will be. Pingzapper makes it tolerable but still have random lag spikes at peak times.
Considering it's happening to multiple players, it's more than "packet loss". And yes, I blame Time Warner. May they burn in a fiery place for all eternity.
I have Comcast and still getting 90K errors all day long, with random lag that doesn't drop me from the game too. Always on the days where I want to get something done...
hmm I have Cox Cable and have only had in-game lag once and that was on there end and they fixed it. I play on Diabolos in case anyone was wondering. I only have basic cable package of 5MBs (but I realistically get 5.4MBs) down and 1.1MBs up, so not super fast speeds at all.
Play on Balmung, using Cox cable, 90k once today (rare), and minor lag here and there, but no problem in Duty at all.
He's talking about how yesterday (and today) people were getting super lag and getting kicked due to R0. I haven't timed out of the game in months - maybe since last year and yesterday I got kicked multiple times along with almost everyone in my FC.
Hence the maintenance.
the only time I 90k normally is t6 ever since 2.8, yesterday I barely finished my roulette and was terrified to do my alex maps. Every time I entered an instanced server I would dc within 15min and I would run into a que when I came back. I assumed it was/is the duty servers being messed up since cactuar wasn't all that busy yesterday.
I always lag after a new patch, and then 2 weeks later it's gone. Is that really my ISPs fault? I mean how would the ISP know that they added a new patch and then "alright new patch, let's make it hell for Kiara, but only for 2 weeks so that she wont suspect us!"
Edit: Now I got 90k doing one fate, logged in again and the fate was gone, ran to the next fate, fate almost done and got another 90k.
I'm gonna write an angry letter to them every day til I get the playtime I lost back due to lag :@@
Getting major lag spikes recently, using software to help isn't really an option on PS4.
At least on the forums the reports of bad 'lag' seemed to have subsided. While I get a fairy good 100ms from the UK (Virgin Media, cable) there used to be occasions where I'd get hit when I was 100% certain I was out of it in time. It still happens but very rarely. There's even times when I was sure I was in it but wasn't!
The internet wasn't made for twitch responses so MMOs have to have some mechanisms to deal with that and it seems that FF14 2.x doesn't. A VPN tunnel shouldn't be required to play an MMO. If players have to do this it's SE that loose out when players decide it's not worth it. They can increase the polling rate sure but they need to make client side code that compensates for higher latencies like other games do. Hopefully 3.x will have such work done to it.
Will more data centers solve the issue? I'm in Massachusetts an the nearest data center is in Canada. I don't have lag problems but people further south have tons of problems. If they put one in the middle of the Us people with Lag can connect to that. Samething around the world.
I was getting the horrible spikes and rubberbanding WHILE using battleping. It started after the maintenance and didn't become noticeable until sunday (EST). Pretty confident this is on squares end.
I just got off the phone with level3 isp (877-453-8353) and they informed me they are a wholeseller of internet to customers such as Comcast and so on. For me to get help with a node of theirs having issues, Comcast would need to open up a support ticket to them since they are a customer of level3. That is good info to know I just wish that the person I got on the phone at Comcast was better at taking this info and running with it than just asking me if my Modem lights are all lit when that isn't even the issue. So far comcast support has been blowing me off.
I see the packet loss at the various hops all by level3 isp and am not able to do a thing about it. Skipping those hops using battleping has proven a solution albeit a costly one for 3 users in the same house playing the game.
Hop 10, ae-10-10.car2.Montreal2.Level3.net, 4.69.153.86
Hop 11, ORMUCO-COMM.car2.Montreal2.Level3.net, 4.59.178.74
Here are the two ip addresses giving me trouble. Hops for someone else might be different. Ip also might be different if your using a different route. For me that is the non battleping route I take. Those 2 hops specifically one of them is dropping 30 to 50% packets and causing random 90k , lag spikes, you name it, it's happening. Armed with this info i am inclined not to believe it to be on SE side of things.
One thing however I have found out with all this is SE is a customer of level3 maybe not directly but through another ISP. We all end up a customer of level3 indirectly. So maybe a phone call to our ISP's might help. Even though I'm getting a duh duh on my end maybe someone else might get better results.
We need to keep trying.
Maybe just maybe that maint for tonight is because SE already called their isp and a ticket was opened from them to level3 isp and it's getting fixed. We can only hop. Cheers everyone.
Try talking to Comcast Direct, they are considered an upper tier of their customer support.

Comcast!!!!!!!! eww them and there lies about very fast net :P but at this point i do think it's the game i mean iv seen everyone lag here and there since yesterday :P maybe after they take the game down tonight they can fix it {i hope};)
this new latency issue is definitely on squares end and most likely related to the patch. Using a VPN to bypass crappy nodes has NOT fixed the issue.
Or your system...since upgrading from PS3 to PS4 over a month ago I have had no lag issues until yesterday. Today I didn't have any and I'm not aware of if SE did something or not. It may just be strain on the servers or something, but it's hard to say. Yesterday was pretty bad though...I was lagging pretty bad off and on, and I was grouped with others experiencing the same in my expert roulette as well as a fate group. Also saw people d/cing left and right. It seems to be on SE's end of things because my internet has been fine otherwise.
What patch? Even the 2.28 hot fix was the 6th and the issue started on the 8th. There have also been plenty of reports of battleping fixing tge issue. Haven't read much from WTFast users. There's also enough reports of people (myself included) who aren't having any problems. You can ping the problem node outside the game and see the issue.
I don't know much about networking so I can't really speak on the technical issues. I also guess this doesn't give me much cause to blame SE for this. However, what I do know is there was a patch, there was a hotfix, and my connection went from pretty good to "abhorrent". And using battleping, routed to the DC and New York servers, did not fix the issue at all. Rubberbanding and network hiccups left and right. Primals and Coil were unplayable.
When I got a new laptop I decided to get a Killer wireless card and I have noticed my internet speed has more than doubled, and I notice much less latency issues, making dodging much much easier.
I play on PS3, so I can't do everything that you've done. But generally I don't have any kind of lag issues. But yesterday, all day, I had huge lag spikes in dungeons and instances. A party of all i90+ players wiped 3 times on Thornmarch (Hard, not extreme) last night. We were just playing it for fun. But so many of us had these huge lag issues that it was damn near impossible, even with the 20% echo!
Hm...now I'm wondering if it was a PSN issue because now they're doing ninja maintenance and I can't log back in.
The current issues with the FFXIV servers are due to problems in the Level 3 network. If you look at 4.69.153.86 (Level 3, Montreal 2), 4.69.140.89 (Level 3, Chicago 1), 4.69.132.62 (Level 3, Chicago 2), and 4.28.20.29 (Level 3, Denver) you'll see that these hops have heavy packet losses going on. While I have to think that Level 3 knows about these issues since they're a major internet backbone it would be nice to have some level of communication.
For now all i can say is don't beat SE or Sony too hard. These issues are out of their control
On Saturday, I noticed in DF that myself and a couple of other members of the party would DC once or twice through the dungeon. As a tank, that sucked for me.
But Sunday - well, that was hell. DCing all over the place, in cities, FATEs, dungeons. Barely made it through all roulettes and finally decided to log off for the day. I even saw a bunch of random people in the cities and such with the little DC symbol. Latency hasn't been an issue for me, PS3 connected via LAN hard wire and I'm in FL on the Cerberus server. But this weekend DC fiasta was pretty bad. Maintence usually resolves all of that for me.
I was lagging everywhere yesterday as well, inside and outside the duty finder. Five to ten seconds of lag and everyone would stop in place besides my character. I hope it is better tonight.
Totally. Tried Ifrit Ex, asked if everyone ready to go, waited about ten seconds, and suddenly fight fast forwarded. I was at half health, two people dead and other tank was about to get second stack.
Yeah it sucks, I cant even farm up my soldiery without everyone 90k-ing all over the place.
I just don't get it, why are the servers running like we are on 56k connection from final fantasy 11?
though FFXI runs way better without issues.
Seems to happen to me after every patch. People somehow have discovered the secret Ninja job and teleporting all over the place in dungeons. Couple days go by, emergency maintenance, then *poof* all is right again. So not worried. Just glad I wasn't in some clear groups in coil. Roulettes are somewhat manageable; primals and coil, yeah, not so much.
