So Diabolos (The Boss)

OK so I have already posted awhile back how much I loved his battle..however part of me is still sad he is not getting his own patch and trials..I mean I would love gear themed around him and everything. Oh well..still I love seeing his special in game.

I really enjoy that whole dungeon tbh. Not sure why, I guess cause it's not so full with trash so you don't fall asleep between bosses (stone vigil)... And the bosses are pretty fun... Love the music too :D

I want Temple of Qarn hard mode :D

I like that dungeon too, it is visually very unique, and I love the whole Dream Spire (or whatever the name is) area, kind of the dark mechanics behind why the city is so ruined.

I'm fairly bummed that they did the same thing with Siren. Such cool summons from FF8 turned into just plain ol' bosses. Who knows though, they might get additional encounters later. :)

Actually that spire was used (and built) by the white mages of Amdapor as a prison for Diabolos. Diabolos himself was summoned by Amdapor's enemies in an attempt to destroy the city, but the white mages sealed him away instead.

(A bit more of the lore for fun and because I love it)

Amdapor is actually in it's current state because of the 6th Umbral catastrophe that ushered in the end of the 5th astral era. The War of the Magi forced such great and grand use of the land's aether that it bled it dry, this served to both drain the land around the city of Amdapor entirely of it's earth elemental aspect (as explained by E-Sumi-Yan) as well as enrage the elementals. They summoned forth the elemental of nihility, Oha-Sok, whose sorrow at seeing the twelveswood drained of it's aether caused rain to pour endlessly until nearly the entirety of Eorzea was covered in it's flood waters. When the waters retreated, the survivors fled underground to escape the elementals' wrath, forming the subterranean nation of Gelmorra, precursor to the modern day Gridania, as well as the nation of Belah'dia which flourished in Thanalan during the 6th Astral Era.

Ah I see, I guess I never got that. Learning all kinds of lore tonight haha. I figured he brought all of the fungus and bugs, it makes more sense if he was a sealed weapon used against Ampadoor though since his powers revolve around gravity, and not bugs or pestilence.

If i remember correctly it's the mages of Amdapor that summoned him and then the survivors decided to never use that magic again and trapped Diabolos in the city.

Ask E-Sumi-Yan he will tell you the story.

The first two-thirds of the dungeon freak me out a bit, 'cause it'd probably be my worst nightmare if I were to experience it in real life. All of the fungus and oversized insects... it's frightening as hell to me, though I can understand why a lot of folks find it to be aesthetically pleasing.

The last bit, inside the tower, is more interesting to me, because it's more of a Dark Castle kind of feel.

I think one of my only gripes about Diabolos is that, as a Tank, it's almost impossible for me to both do my job and get the doors at the same time, and whenever I ask who wants to get the doors (in which I say, truthfully, that anyone who gets the doors will get my commendation for the run), almost no one ever volunteers for, like, a full minute. Either because they don't know how the doors work, or they're too lazy to get the doors, or they don't want to get yelled at if they fail the doors in any way.

Hell, I'd be more than happy to get the doors if I could reasonably do so while tanking. But I kinda can't. So I have to rely on other folks to do it, but they don't want to for whichever reason. Though I can't say the current climate of players where failure justifies harassment helps in any way (not that I practice that, I actually think it's kinda disgusting to harass people just for failure, especially if they have a good reason for it, because all it does is hurt that player. Not once has harassment ever helped anyone.)

Ask the DD not to damages the boss before you marked the door, pull the boss, flash/Overpower, mark the door. and go back to normal, if DD don't listen then let them die and provoke the boss when you are done with the doors, once you have aggro there is no problem to move and open the doors.( you can open one at the beginning and only open the second during his Dark Messenger )

That just doesn't seem reasonable to me, though. It'd be infinitely easier to get the DD to do it, especially the ranged DD. Opening the first door could easily get interrupted by just about anything, and that'd be insanely annoying. Not my idea of a good time.

I would absolutely love to see a Minstrel's Ballad for Diabolos, Siren and Odin.

To be fair, pre-nerf Siren was harder for most people than the HM primals.
Lost City isn't near Pharos Sirius-level difficulty but it is definitely the hardest of the new dungeons and the doors are a cool design. Diabolos always struck me as cooler looking than powerful anyway.

Healer should open the doors 100% of the time, or else they are lazy. They are literally standing there doing nothing while he charges his attack because no one, including the tank, will take any damage.

Each of the Elder Primals (Ifrit, Garuda, Titan, Leviathan, Ramuh, Shiva, Mog, Odin, and Bahamut) has appeared in Final Fantasy Games since at least as early as Final Fantasy III, with the exception of Garuda. Titan, and Bahamut both first appeared in Final Fantasy I, though not as Summons as that feature didn't exist until Final Fantasy III. The Moogles and Leviathan both first appeared in Final Fantasy II. Garuda is the only one not to have appeared in the older games. Her debut being had in Final Fantasy XI. However she was such a popular character that they couldn't just get rid of her.

Siren, the only other former Summon aside from Diabolos to appear as a Dungeon Boss, but not as a Primal, first appeared in Final Fantasy VI. Diabolos himself first appeared in Final Fantasy VIII. Siren has been a Summon in TWO of the main series games. Diabolos has been a summon in TWO of the main series games. Garuda has now been a summon in TWO of the main series games. I am sensing a pattern here...

I would love a Diabolos EGI

Um i don't think ifrit, titan, garuda, leviathan, moogle mog, shiva and ramuh are elder primals, they are lesser primals iirc. The elder primals that we know of so far are: Bahamut and Odin. Both of whom where sealed away until they were freed by the calamity. Personally the primal I am waiting to be released is Phoenix, you all know you want him. They did him so much injustice in FFXI...

ALso, A fight against the elemental of nihility would be badass... I loved the whm storyline from 1.0!

Yeah in Lost City I really enjoyed doing battle with Diabolos. His ultimate attack as we would transpose between voids as to avoid getting murdered is just awesome.

Don't you have enough time to open both doors by yourself if you run to the first one right when he does Noctoshield?

You don't really have to mark doors either since you just have to take a look when you get sucked in, the symbols repop.

Regardless of what counts as a Primal vs. an Elder Primal, it doesn’t change the fact that the entities recognized as Primals in the game at the moment, with the exception of Garuda, have the element of longevity within the Final Fantasy series. Heck, even Carbuncle has been around since at least Final Fantasy V and has appeared in virtually every Final Fantasy since then, with the exception of VII, X, and XII (though he did appear in Revenant Wings and both Tactic’s games). And the Faeries have been in 2 Final Fantasy Games and 1 Spin-Offs (though it was only a Summon in 2 of these 3 games).

Point is, Diabolos has only been in ONE game, not counting MMO’s. Garuda has never been in any Final Fantasy Game EXCEPT MMO’s. And Siren has been in TWO games aside from MMO’s, and never once in an MMO as a Summon. These three Summons just do not have the staying power of the other Summons. Though Garuda has the same kind of Fetish bait that Shiva has had for ages, so that is lending a boost to her staying power. Siren however only recently got introduced to a medium that made the fact that she is wearing a bikini obvious, instead of making her bikini look like it is actually… um… yeah….

Actually we know of one other Elder Primal thanks to the egi version of him we see in the last summoner quest : Belias.

Tell this to most healers then - because as a Bard, I end up having to do it every time I run this dungeon - no one EVER steps up. I don't mind doing it, but once in a while, it would nice not to have to. Personally, if it's a WHM, I don't mind, but there's no excuse why a SCH can't open doors since the fairy can pretty much heal the whole fight by itself.

Zodiark may also count. Though Zodiark is actually the antithesis to Hydaelyn more than anything else. But traditionally Zodiark was considered one of the most powerful Summons in the Final Fantasy series. And Zodiark is actually were Belias gets his power I do believe.

On Diabolos, is there actually any reason he can't return later? In XI he was effectively the final boss of Pso'Xja, only to return later. They could do a similar thing with XIV and just have him return later. Would actually be nice if Conjurer gets him, since he is tied to the Amdapori and White Mages, and Conjurer could always end up Conjuring him. Doesn't so much fit with White Mage, but Conjurer could always get a second Job that fits.

On a related note I would love to see the Odins, DIablos, and Siren's becoming summons for the Summoner class one day.

I would like to see siren be used for Scholars tbh, even if she isn't exactly a fairy

You know... I wonder why people only ever mention Diabolos and Siren, what about Atomos?

Diabolos and Siren at least get shine as final bosses, Atomos is just a pathetic subboss for Crystal Tower, completely unexplained... His appearance in 1.23b is still unexplained too, he was just there to give us an end of the world event, I guess... Really wish they'd just gone with XIs system of calling the existing ones Cavernous Maw, and later we could face the real Atomos, explaining the Cavernous Maws from 1.23b and Crystal Tower... Instead Atomos is just... Meh...

He could have been an absolutely amazing boss, just like FFV. Something like a mix between Demon Wall, Decaying Gourmand, and Catoblepas; He targets a party member, and they start getting pulled into his maw every time he does a move, like Catoblepas he has a new target you can destroy to prevent that, if you fail to prevent it, he eats you like the Decaying Gourmand and you die instantly and get forced to Return like falling off at Demon Wall.

I'm a healer and I open the doors only if noone else steps up for it. Reason being I'm bad at marking and/or remembering which doors to open.
So far I've only had one run where people would actually help mark the doors, with most runs both tank and dps just standing there refusing to help at all.

You're lazy. What I do when he charges? Mostly healing up the not avoided avoidable dmg and stoneskin the whole party. Then the next doors also want to get the marks. In this time there is at least one ball, one cleave and one not avoided aoe, that wants to get healed.

The healer is definitively the onliest that do have better things to do than marking and opening the doors.

Why should someone else open the doors, than the one that marks? pugs will always f. it up at this point.

I would love trials for Behemoth, Odin, Diablos and Siren! Maybe for the relic quest down the line we'll have more trials. I like those.
