hi mate i just returned to the game after a long break due to moving house and only just had internet reconected. i repaid my subscription went to play the game and had the same error come up. After trying all day im still getting the same error. figured maybe it was there end and after a few hours it would work but still its not working.
this is really frustrating as its definatly not my end i can access the internet fine and nothing is blocked on my router or firewall settings .
wow over2 days now and not even a responce. game launcher still wont download . very dissapointed . was so happy to be returning to this game as i love it and now i think ill just get my monthly sub back and cancel it alltogether.
Problem still there this morning. Sueenix's silence on this is damning. Time they brought in some servers that can handle demand...
Agreeing with Xocnai, here. I understand that there are more pressing issues for players in-game that need to be fixed - but a message of confirmation or acknowledgement, at the very least, is needed here. This problems stops people from playing the game, and without playing - how are they expected to continue their subscription? Where is the incentive to want to play - when all we get is silence?
If there is something we can do to fix the error - tell us.
If this is a problem on Square-Enix's end, and we'll have to wait for a solution - tell us.
Players understand that problems come with running and internet based game - just tell us and we'll be patient. Keep us in the dark and there aren't going to be any players to help.
Ive been trying to patch since wednesday night, I have the same problem and have gotten no response, ive posted on reddit, replied to their bug post on twitter and tried customer support. I understand they have in game bugs that need to be addressed but some of us dont even have the luxury of playing and taking this long to respond is a slap in your customers face. If this were riot, blizzard, or trion we'd get a response within an hour. Maybe I should go play their games instead.
I played the game a few months ago with the first free 30 days. I decided to come back so l set up a new sub and starting downloading this morning. I got halfway through the download and then it just tanked and I got the same error message. I've tried over and over again nothing working. I hope it gets fixed soon or at least some response. I'm wasting money every day that I cant play :(
It is working for me now guys. I tried it all throughout the day and it started downloading at 7:00pm U.S. Eastern time for me. I hope you guys get it working for you too. I think the server was just really congested and that lead to the problem.

This isn't a problem on Square's end actually. Look at some of the other recent threads in this forum; the problem appears to be with one of the hubs that XIV data is routed through, and none of those are under Square's command; all they can do is repeatedly attempt to contact the communications companies that run that hub (good luck trying that on a Sunday) and get them to fix it.
Its still squares problem IMO. They havent responded to us at all.
What exactly do you want them to say? They can't say "well we think company X's hubs aren't working right, we're trying to contact them", that's a) bad business becasue it's calling out a company they're currently doing business with and b) dangerous because if it turns out it's NOT the hubs then they're liable for making false statements.
ANYTHING would have been good. That's the problem. If it was something we had to wait and try again with... That would have been all they had to say, really. 'The servers are congested right now, we apologize that you are unable to patch and hope that you can bear with us as we look into the matter' - isn't hard to type out.
No naming and shaming; just giving players some piece of mind after they pay for a service and then not just denied that service, but denied an answer as to why.
its not a problem with certain companies hub its something to do with the downloader. if it was a problem with certain companies hub it would be the same with other games , and we wouldnt be able to acess any other games, internet etc where as this isnt the case i am having no trouble with anything except ffxiv. apparently if someone uploads a torrent of there game files that is already patched we can copy it to our ffxiv folder and this problem will be solved howether even if i could find this torrent i am sketchy about doing it and besides the point why should we have to find ways around a problem or bug that isnt our fault or problem to sort as paying customers that cant access a service they should either sort it or refund us for every day out of the month it is not working. at the very least respond not just ignore paying customers.
imagine youre paying youre phone line rental and for 3 days youre phone wont make calls then you get no responce from phone line customer service. how would you feel. i dont see how its any diferent
hi guys after 3 days of scouring forum post after forum pos and trying thigs ive found a solution that works for me. just try this. download the game patch then u can change the settings back after. two ways to do this method the complicated way is to go onto youre router settings and open ports for ffxi. do a google search for ffxi ports and then how to configure depending on youre type or router.
or simply try this first
Control Panel > Network and sharing > change adapter settings > right click your adapter > properties > select TCP/IPv4 > properties > change primary DNS to 8.8.8.8

***** ignore everything i finally thought it was working got further than its ever donw before and then bam same error message. this is so frustrating :-(
ok ive finally manage to download the patch after 3 days of trying. not really sue if it was anything i did or if i was just lucky and the problem has sorted itself. anyhow heres what i did.
first go into youre documents , my games, then ffxiv folder then downloads and delete the partially downloaded patch file (the one that keeps failing) and i even deleted the ffxiv updater as well (bascally everything in the download folder)
Then i turned of everything, and i mean literally everything. My firewall, my antivirus and in task manager i closed all non essssential windows processes.
then launch installer and fingers crossed. hope this works for you guys. ^__^

I'm bumping this. It's still a problem - even when trying every fix offered in this thread.
I'm in the same boat. Paid to come back and play; I can't download the client. It does about 20MB, then the download speed slowly goes to 0 and I get the exact same error as OP. There are so many posts online about this issue, going back 8 months... but not a single solution!!!
