[QOL Suggestion] /anonymous, can i have it?

this game needs a feature or command that allows you to go anonymous. other MMO's have it and its a great feature to allow for some in game privacy.

i dont always want people to know what zone im in. whether its open world or an instance, sometimes its nice to be able to fly under the radar.i dont always want random players to be know what jobs i have unlocked so that they can send me tells about joining their random group or FC. i dont always want people to know what FC i am in or if i am in an FC at all. i dont always want people i dont know to be able to send me tells

if this game had a /anonymous command i feel like we would be afforded a lot more in game privacy. plenty of other MMO's have them and their benefits are obvious. some features could include

hiding your location in player search and on FC/LS/friends list
hiding your job/search info when inspected
hiding your FC tag and info when inspected
only allow people on friends list to send /tell

so, can i have it?

if you're worried about trolling, that happens anyways. legitimate trolls do not care about their online ID's reputation. in fact they feed on people knowing they are trolls and having that moniker attached to them. case and point: Crystal Tower

if anything, being able to go /anon would be more of a safeguard from the trolls. it would make it a lot more difficult for the malicious ones to find/track you

sure blacklist works, but dont think people arent beyond creating new characters just to troll people. i have friends that have been followed to new servers by people that disliked them just so that they could grief them on a new server

Well, in regards to jobs/fc how would that work with Lodestone? If they REALLY wanted to know
what you had and if you were in an FC, they could pull up Lodestone and there it is. SE would have
to somehow link Anon with Lodestone to update and black everything out, but the Lodestone also
isn't instant.

Not saying I disagree with /anon, as we had it in XI, but with Lodestone ready and available it would
be really difficult to actually hide things like jobs or what FC you are in (if any).

Anon never got abused in XI ... I'm curious how it could be abused.

valid counter point. i guess that is something to consider, but even if it only affected in-game features it could still benefit. its mainly a deterrent for randoms sending tells to people they search and to some extent it could even curb RMT spam

Indeed! I see no harm in having some form of /anon function similar to FFXI. It never broke that game, I
don't think it would break this one either. :)

True there are other games that has some of these features. The most obvious thing that everyone wants to get rid of: Gil sellers and spammers.

The rest: it's an MMO. Insert lots of peeps beside you.

Interacting with others could help you get a job in the real world, if you add in your resume: Yes, I am a team player. ;)

I agree as well for the Equipment check up. I wouldn't care if others didn't use this for judging your capabilities to down a trial/dungeon/whatever. That is negative and should be fixed.

For invites that we receive and are not happy with: /blist. (please SE, make blist up to 500, or please make it so we can report bots/gil sellers more easily, so we would have less peeps on our blist. Thank you.)

To see who you are and from which FC you choose to be in and represent: all normal and good.

If you are completely anomymous, you could give the finger to anyone and be more rude than what we already have in the game. (nope)

Sorry to hear that, but report - harassment. With what you just mentionned here, in about 15-20min they will receive a tell from a GM and then. Perma ban.

Now if they still wants to open another account just to harass: you do the same. If they are Millionaires, then bad luck. (IP ban would be another option) Otherwise they will find easier prey that won't report them.

To add to this I'd like an option to toggle disable tells from non-friends and friends. Sometimes I just want to craft or do what ever without having 6 people try to have a conversation with me. Usually I like being social, until I don't.

I found the opposite to be true actually. In Crystal Tower, back when Ready Check was introduced it's user was anonymous, and although it was mostly used in battle to make people fail dodge mechanics it was also spammed outside of battle just to annoy everyone.

Then as soon as the devs added into the logs the user, the trolling suddenly stopped. Any few fools who would would continue soon realized that they'd be quickly kicked and could no longer troll.

If you set your online status to Busy, it will block all /tells sent to you.

I'm not exactly sure why you want to hide from your FC/LS mates....perhaps if you want to stay hidden from those people you shouldn't be affiliated with them? Just speculating, this game is kind of supposed to be social. I can understand wanting some privacy, but you could just switch chat logs so you aren't looking at FC/LS chatter and set your online status to Busy so you can't receive tells. Random people can look at your jobs all they want but can't send you a tell if your Busy. And if your chat log is switched to, say, Battle....they can /say and /shout all they want and you still won't see it.

If "Busy" on your online status isn't enough for these people to realize you aren't available or don't want to be bothered, I'm not sure I would want to see what they have to say anyway :p

Mind you, I'm not against /anon...just offering some work-arounds incase this never gets implemented.

I would love to at least hide the fact I logged in from my FC... or hide my online status from my friend's list too.

Sometimes I just want to play quietly.

There are some days, a person just wants to lay low or not talk.

There's plenty solo-content in the game I want to do from time-to-time without having to interact with others.

Some days you wanna be introverted & make sole-progress in your MMO, it doesn't defeat the purpose... the purpose of sole-progression is for the multiplayer end of things.

people that own cell phones should never turn them off, i mean because you own a cell phone you are obligated to answer it just because you have it. if you dont want to be social dont by a cell phone

Meh, XI was a much more group oriented, community based game and it had this option. Inter-server DF has a far more detrimental effect on communities and that's in the game.

how else are we suppose to play proper hide & seek?

Are you using /anon the same was as /invisible? /Anon in XI just hid your job, but /invisible made you unsearchable, and you wouldnt show up on any friend list or anything. Was awesome. I've been hoping since day one that they would implement /invisible. :(

I second this, but only if it automatically equips you with a Guy Fawkes mask when used.

/busy is the win here. Blocks all tells. Any friends etc that you would actually want to talk to, had better be in a LS of FC chat with you, if they're important to you that is.
Or, just use /afk. Then you can do whatever you want to, as long as people you're trying to avoid don't physically see you doing something, or notice that you're changing zones. Then you can claim you forgot that you set afk on, or something.

Play your cards wrong, and you're going to look like a jerk for ignoring people intentionally, or a coward for avoiding confrontation. Sometimes you just need to grab your selfish-sack, and tell people "No, I don't really feel like doing [activity]. Some other time"

Then just don't log in for the day? MMO's are a social interaction. Again, /anon defeats the purpose of MMO's. I always found that feature in FFXI to be completely stupid.

And I always found the feature to be pointless. As for cross server queuing. Its hardly detrimental on communities. I came across more assholes/loot ninjas in swtor than in FF14 and swtor is a single server queue. Cross server has nothing to do with it, its just a simple fact that people like that exist regardless if its on a same server queue or not. The positives of a cross server queue FAR outweigh any "detrimental" effect of them... Or would you rather wait 3 hours in a dungeon queue instead of maybe 10-20 minutes as DPS? Cuz that's how it was in swtor. At one point in swtor I forgot I was even queued. It popped like 5 hours later while I was in the middle of crafting and doing dailies.

It's ridiculous to suggest we just not play at all when we don't feel like talking with our FC's.

There are sometimes I just want to play with my IRL friends & let the FC be, /anon would permit that.

I am very popular, I don't say that pridefully, I just mean to say your argument is like telling a celebrity they need to stop stepping outside if they don't want people trying to snap their picture or shouting at them.

It's ludicrous. Sometimes I wanna enjoy dinner out with my wife at a fancy restaurant without the paparazzi all over my back.

Same applies here, I can be social I just don't necessarily want every circle spamming me in-game every few seconds.

/afk works well. I announce to the FC that I'm going afk and then go mine or something. If you feel the need to hide from your FC that much, perhaps try a different (smaller) FC or none at all?

Ideally, I'd like the various effects to be separated out with some option settings. I've played some games where the /anon feature did things as diverse as hiding your online status from your guildmates and also preventing anyone from inspecting your gear. There were people who (in both directions) wanted one of those effects but not the other and were stuck with a both or neither choice.

This. Both in 1.0 and Beta before DF was put in. 1.0 had a much smaller community so those people who were asshats were pretty much well known to be avoided. Beta, before the DF was implemented, felt like it was a much better community, not many people were rude and there were many generally helpful people. You had the old fashioned shouts asking for a Tam Tara party and it was generally a good time

With this community, I'd rather not do things outside my FC because of how it changed.

I came across dozens of those kind of people in swtor and it doesn't have cross server either. Cross server has NOTHING to do with it. It's just that when it gets implemented people get it in their head that the community was magically better when it wasn't there and its 100% false. Or maybe I was just imagining the spamming in chat of people typing in caps SPAAAACEEEEBARRRR THE CUTSCENE in swtor? And that game has an EXTREMELY small community. Nothing changes, its all in your head. This whole "they wont get invites" is a load of crap. Someone will always invite them.

Heck, I was in one of the largest progression guilds at one point in swtor and we had an officer completely empty our bank over one silly argument. The entire server knew about him. He still managed to find another guild and was still clearing content. So forgive me if I don't buy into the crap about a "better community without cross server." Every example thrown out I can throw right back as I've seen it all in single server queue systems and it hasn't stopped anyone. I quite like logging into FFXIV and at the most waiting 15-20 minutes (usually it pops within 10 minutes or less) for a queue pop and getting into the dungeon and 99% of the time having zero issues compared to what I had to deal with in swtor waiting up to 3 hours at times just to get ONE queue pop for a flashpoint (dungeon). And don't even think about trying to queue for an operation (raid) as you will be lucky if that even pops at all. You could stay logged in for 3 weeks and it would never pop. And when it does everyone immediately leaves after a wipe.

I'll stick to supporting cross server queues.
