Easy they communicate.
Easier said than done on a PS3, by the time you've bought up the virtual keyboard..
but at least I know there isn't a role for one who just heals tanks and the other the rest of the party.
For most 8 man content, there's no need to assign tanks to healers. I can't speak for Second Coil, but for everything else, maybe Turn 1 and Turn 4 if the healers don't feel confident keeping both tanks up simultaneously. Levi EX, WHM heals OT. Those are the only instances I can think of where both tanks are expected to take continuous heavy damage.
In general, if you're running WHM/SCH, WHM always gets priority on raid, SCH on tanks.
If you're running WHM/WHM, no one cares.
If you're running SCH/SCH, you're boned (kidding, but exact same situation as WHM/WHM).
Any content that requires healers to fully tend to a different tank for a phase.
Cuz that ment when your assigned tank dies you know it's all on you.
I.e early days of turn 1.
Your keeping your tank healthy then all of a sudden the other healer gets hoodwinked or fails to mitigate the damage once the damage gets high.
I run both whm and sch as a healer main and typically an unspoken rule it's sch on war and whm on pld with shared duty where necessary and on party. But as others mentioned depends on fight and party make up. In any case it's not black and white you need to be dynamic and roll with whatever the party needs during the course of the fight.
Grr @ the first two posts! Naughty naughty! Typical forum knee jerk reaction sarcastic blame the OP, there's no issue response! Are you suggesting that we literally say "I'm healing this person now" every heal? Be specific, lol! Shame on you :P
I've been doing some early coil and and primals with my FC recently and we tend to have one on the tank and one on the rest of the group (obviously switching to support the other if needed).
For Garuda EX you have to have a tank each. This is communicated at the start normally. In terms of etiquette I just keep an eye on the other healer and try to get a feel for their style. For example, we both went in with medica's the first couple of times the group got hit. I noticed the other healer was much quicker at firing it than me, so I would save the MP and just cure / cure II / regen (or even the odd stoneskin on squishies) where it was needed. For big group attacks of course I'd join in with AOE healing. This did mean I was often just standing there while the other healer did the work, but I managed to save some MP and got my chance to unleash it later in the fight. We wiped anyway XD
Conversely if I see the other healer is keeping the tank up I won't keep healing the tank every hit he takes but instead will take the group heal role.
This is just my own experience however, and I'm still learning in this area too.
Oh and I've seen people using a macro to communicate in party chat when they are raising. That's really useful to me so I'll be setting up something similar myself, i.e:
/macroicon Raise
/action Raise <t>
/p Casting (Raise) on <t>
you can auto-translate the (Raise) by typing "rai" then tap R1 or tab key and choose from the list of translator words. Other party members will see it in their own language.
The killer is when both WHM blow their benediction all over one guy >_< I think without teamspeak on that's really hard to avoid.
Speaking as a WHM, on PS3, I just use a USB Keyboard, and at the start of the encounter I ask the other healer "You want to focus MT or OT?" if they don't respond I assume they don't have a keyboard and are using a controller; in which case I examine the other healer and tell them which tank I'll focus. For Raise I just made a macro that says I'm raising someone. People say it's not important to assign healers for the start of the end game content...when you get to primals, and T4, I even found it helpful on T1; if you don't work it out, you have a potential problem about to happen when both heals cast on the MT and the OT goes down...communication is always key; if anyone argues that point...see how many times you wipe before you clear.
Thank you for all your replies. :)
For some fights I will ask the other healer which tank he would like to focus but most fights I am on the pld/group and the scholar takes the warrior/group.
There's no easy copy/paste answer, it really depends on your group and the fight. Here are things that I find most consistent:
- WHM + SCH fairy prioritize group healing -- with Medica I and II it's a no brainer. SCH should also use Sacred Soil and pre-cast Succor. for the big primal moves and Titan's stomps.
- The better equipped healer takes the less equipped tank e.g. a party with i90 WHM, i90PLD, i80 WAR, i80 SCH should be paired i90 WHM + i80 WAR / i90 PLD + i80 SCH.
- All things being equal, SCH takes WAR, WHM takes PLD. Some WARs will even say they prefer SCH.
- Designate who will heal which tank for fights that require it like T1/T4, even with Echo!!! There are a lot of i70-80 healers entering Coil now, and they may not have the raw power to split heals like two i90+ healers. Also you don't want overlap and waste e.g. using Lustrate and Benediction on the same tank.
Is there any reasons to pair SCH to WAR and WHM to PLD? why shouldn't it be another way around? Both are subjected to be beaten down by mobs or bosses anyway.
In SCH quest stories it is indicated WAR and SCH have synergie.. :)
But to be more precise, lustrate is 25% health restored, with WAR biggest pool of HP and variation it is very effective
PLD has "more" tools to mitigate damage (i mean reduction % based), SCH gives them to war with virus, sacred soil eye for an eye
PLD can blind with flash, SCH can RUIN II for WAR to add the blind effect
SCH can easily throw Stoneskin to upgrade even more after an adloquium without worrying too much about MP
But both heals work very well with both tanks
As SCH I usually focus on main tank while other healer do most of raid heal
During fights like T8 I usually do all the Leech job while WHM focus on pure healing
SCH + WHM = SCH focus on the single target healing and succors when AOE is coming / WHM focus on assisting single target but will generally be the AOE healer. SCHs will do most of the rezzing
WHM + WHM = Both keep regen up and heal, if needed decide who will focus OT or MT.
SCH + SCH = One of each Fey, keep Succor up for ongoing AOE, one huge AOE blast each Adlo a person, we usually have one SCH focus ranged other focus melee.
Easy..we roshambo for who we want to heal.
Pretty hard with 2 whm, im most of the time sch and the whm always says who i want to heal and i say, both, u focus whoever u want, on coil i always focus on mt, but for 2 whm u must always (if u dont have voice communication) say that u will use benediction first and a macro always helps, is terrible when both whm use benediction on the same target at the same time
