So, Soldiery Weapons

I've decided to take the path of earning myself a Yagrush, but haven't actually seen a single player (even on a server as hopping as Balmung) take the same route.

Basically, instead of going the Relic-Zenith-Atma-Animus route most players are grinding for a top tier weapon, or taking Levi EX for the drop, I've begun trading in my Soldiery Tomes for the needed Rowena's Tickets, and am working up through Coil to eventually work on getting the Unidentified Tome and Sands of Time.

I'm a little curious why so few is opting for that route of gaining high level weapon. The Atma grind looks like something that could kill the game for me, and I'd rather run dungeons!

most people rather go and get relic weapon seeing as its always upgradeable meaning u will have it probably for few expansions. with novus weapon coming out in relic weapon it will be 110 ilvl same as the other weapons so not really worth spending sol on unless u dont need gear then its probably ok to get.

If you sol cap since patch, you should be close to getting all sold gear for a single class excluding accessories. And not every piece of sold piece are good, so for my case I rather wait until I get the high allagan version instead.

in that case you would probably be using the sold for alt classes on that character so u have something to switch to when needed seeing as u wont get all sold gear. but yeah as i explained with the new relic upgrade next week it will be ilvl 110 for relic and also gotta remember relic weapon is always upgradeable

I see a couple WHMs on Hyperion taking Yagrush. Until you get a High Allagan Crook, it's actually the best option you can get for WHM. Plus, it looks pretty cool.

it all comes down to bis people want to max all stats so if it's not bis they ignore it.

I plan on getting a Conquerer, myself. It's essentially the i100/i110 Dual Haken. Grants decent accuracy and stuff, but doesn't require headache-inducing grinding nor running Coil incessantly.

And especially with Sands of Time and Oil of Time being drops in CT2, I may never have to touch Coil ever to reach a point I'm happy with gear-wise, though I do wish I could clear all of that content for the sake of clearing it, even if I don't get any items out of it. Primarily for the story and for completionist's sake. But it's just too much of a pain to deal with.

Get the Yagrush, enjoy having a better weapon than Animus.

I waited until I got the tome drop and then I saved up soldiery and got my weapon. :eek: It wasn't something I planned for cause I didn't know how long it'd take to down T7. (But I'm still slowly working on the books for my animus because it'll always be upgradeable and, well, the Gae Bolg Animus is pretty!)

In a few hours i will get my second soldier weapon, i spend my time playing pvp, raiding or not ingame, because farm a lot of myth in the same dungeon it's insane.

I got allagan weapon more soon than Curtana+1. I had to spent myth on zenith because i have to complete the relic quest

You need the tomestone from T7 to actually make the weapon. No word if the tomestone will be a drop anywhere else yet(though likely a good bet)

The relic weapon is a long-term time investment because it's an ongoing quest to keep it relevant. Other weapons come and go but relics are for life =)

Also some players just love long-term content as this game really doesn't have any other quests like it.
Yes there is the dreaded atma phase but there is also a lot of actually fun questing besides that on your way to upgrades.

So far the Relic Reborn is by far my most favourite quest in this entire game.

Not to burst your bubble but theres a ton of people having/using the i110 from soldiery on Balmung, they just dont slum around in the streets.

But you need a tomestone not oil or sand, to get the weathered wep in the 1st place :3

As much as I would rather have piety on my weapon than spell speed, that simply is not worth 1300 tomes. The 2-4 pieces of other gear I could buy with that will be a much greater improvement. Yes, even if I'm spending it on an alt class.

Until the novus is released and you can change some stats up on it.

Really, aside from accessories I don't see the soldiery armor being all that great for WHM. Yes, I purchased the circlet and gloves because the 2nd coil equivalents don't have the determination I like (bad luck on drops). Having the Yagrush means I can wear these pieces and still maintain a healthy amount of MP from losing piety from head, gloves and earrings.

Trust me, this is not something I need to be reminded of. I'd still rather gear up my PLD than spend 3 weeks worth of soldiery on a weapon sidegrade. Animus is more than enough to clear T9 and I'll be upgrading it in a couple weeks anyway.

I found it easier to buy all I needed first for SMN then save up the tokens. By the time my group downed T7, I already had 9 tokens and it was a fresh reset so #10 was a breath away

I've got mine on Balmung for my warrior, but to be honest it's obvious why many people don't have this. Many many players do not even remotely try the new coil at all. They don't pug or join statics. This essentially makes this weapon completely off limits to them.

Getting the soldiery weapon is a waste of time. Novus will be the better weapon to get because you can eventually alter its stats, you can get it to (at least) ilvl 115 in 2.3 and you don't have to waste any Soldiery getting it. Why waste weeks worth of soldiery to get a weapon that will be obsolete in just over a month when you can gear an alt class with gear that will last you till at least September?

Also worth mentioning that if you are not in a static, you only have a 1 in 8 chance to get the item if you can clear T7 in a pug, and then a 1 in 8 chance to upgrade it if you can clear T8 in a pug. For the majority of players, its just easier to grind out an animus.

I'm a try hard and I have my tidal wave staff, my T7 weapon and I'm 3 books away from my stardust rod animus. Cause variety.

One month or more to 2.3 release.
One month is 450x4= 1800 soldiers

Have you got time to farm the animus weapon? go on!!!

Atm, unless exception, high allagan weapon > ilvl110 weapon > ilvl 100 weapon > animus.

Relic will be 115 in 2.4 when High Allagan gets phased out by another raid weapon. In terms of progression the relic will never be equal to the endgame weapon drop.

You don't know that at all. They only announced Novus would be 110. You're making any info about 115 up. Unless of course you can provide a source.

as a whm main here is my reasoning:

animus and weathered yagrush are virtually the same thing. I prefer the annimus because the extra det and the ss helps in 2nd coil. also because i dont need the extra pie atm.

yagrush is better but novus will also be i110. depending on what i can do with the stats on it, it will be the same thing as above most likely.

as for getting a weathered yagrush AND unweathering it. the dps has a higher priority on the items, then tanks, then everyones gear. the healer wep isnt high on the list of order for the drops needed.

besides seeing t9 being taken down with a thyrus zenith means any upgrade just makes fights easier.

it will be 115(maybe even 120) when baha3 come with its nice 135wepon.

Because unless you beat t7/8 in a random PUG and won it by roll or your static is done with getting the DPS soldiery weapons, you won't get the Unidentified Allagan Tomestones or Sands of Time needed to get the Weathered Yagrush or Yagrush. I know my group just beat t8 on Sunday and I, as a DPS has priorities on Soldiery weapons to keep upping our DPS. The better the DPS, the more Coil you can do so most group opt to gearing out DPS first with the guaranteed drops.

Animus on WHM is more than enough to heal all the current patch content. By the time you take to cap soldiery weekly, you could have farmed the atmas and animus books. Then, you'll keep upgrading Animus on new content while your Yagrush will be left behind. You're 'wasting' an Unindentified Allagan Tomestone someone else could have got to improve their dps and make your runs smoother, while heals wouldn't improve that much to be really noticed. Unless your whole group already has them and you're the last one getting the tomestone and you don't feel like farming Animus.

Depends on your luck.

Personally I think the weathered weapons are just a temporary weapon you'll replace in a few months. Whereas, as people have mentioned, the Relic weapon will continue to grow.

Plus at this point is it really worth spending all of that soldiery on a item when the Novus is coming out soon and will be the exact same item level? It seems like the realistic route is getting the Relic.

The Atma might be annoying but you only have to do it once.

I'm going to have my i110 weapon from Soldiery long before I have a Novus, so while it does set me back a few weeks on getting some other gear with Soldiery, I'd rather have that immediate impact instead of waiting however many weeks after the patch hits to be able to get my Animus upgraded.

I think at this point the only regret I have is not pursuing a different weapon for one of the two paths, as I did BLM for both Soldiery and Animus and I find myself playing SMN more and more now and the only thing I have for it is a non upgraded Leviathan weapon.

Weathered Yagrush (i100) has better itemization than Thyrus Animus (i100), so it's the better choice. If Novus (i110) customization is worth a damn, it might be better than Yagrush (i110) but we'll have to see. That said, Yagrush is almost guaranteed to be a damn sight faster/easier to obtain than any Novus weapon owing to the atma and myth farm, regardless of what the Novus questline includes.

That wouldn't make sense. 110 in 2.28 is confirmed and we know we're getting another upgrade in 2.3 (unless it gets delayed)...which brings us to 115 because all weapon upgrades for endgame seem to increase in ilvl by 5-10. For all you know, being able to upgrade it to ilvl 115 may require beating T9 as a prerequisite.

Unless you're not able to get a group to beat T7 and (hopefully) obtain the required item for the weapon upgrade. In that case, farming for atma and myth is a better choice while you do get a group together.

More than likely the upgrade in 2.3 will be like Atma/Animus progression we have now. No ilvl boost but stats will increase or be further modified.
