Serious Thought - Off Hand Questions

Why don't all classes have access to an offhand? Maybe i missed somewhere where devs addressed this as to why they decided not to add offhand, but is it that difficult to implement and find a balance? Omitting the DoH and DoL. The only classes with an offhand is a CNJ/WHM/THM/BLM/GLA/PLD all of which are shields of course. But it would be nice to see an off-hand implemented in the future for all classes.

ARC-SCH-SMN should have a Pen off-hand. (There is already a pen in hand when they cast spells why not make it an actual stat giving item).

ARCH-BARD should have a Quiver of Arrows, but as a single static item and not one that uses consumable ammo.

WAR should have a Chain that wraps around its non-dominant hand.

PLG-MNK offhand should split stats for a single glove to be share with just another Glove.

LNC-DRG should have ..ehh? Maybe an Arm Dampener for them heavy thrusts.

Get what im saying? Having an offhand that makes sense. Now i wouldn't want SE to adjust existing items already, rather add the ability to use off hand items for future weapons added into the game.

All them jobs use 2 handed weapons how will they hold anything in they off hand. Even cnj/whm and thm/blm can't use the off when using 2 handed weapons.

I see what you're getting at but I don't think some of the examples are necessary or that every class should even have a off-hand item.

The reason, in my opinion, why ANJ/WHM/THM/BLM/GLA/PLD have a off-hand is because it's know that those classes could use one-handed weapons --> wands/swords.

Another reason, I think, is for balance.

Yeah i should have been more clear about the two handed weapons. I didn't want those current weapons to change or adjusted and be able to have an off hand, rather in the future add a single handed i120 bow with a accompanying i120 quiver.

I get that SMNs book is a two handed weapon but he holds it with one hand, the other hand has a pen. Why cant the pen be a offhand? I get the bow is a two handed weapon, but the other hand pulls arrows from thin air? I get the WAR axe is a two handed weapon, but where does that chain come from?

I understand that there are BLM and WHM two handed weapons, but there are also single handed wands for both classes. I'm just saying, id be cool to see something that would make sense to fill those empty offhand slots in the future..of course as long as there is a balance.

Boy that would be just dreadful for monk on U/U items. Have to wear your good weapon in main hand and a sub-par weapon in your offhand, not to mention the stat division would probably end up being just dreadful. Or they would have to divide every set into two items like Left Spharai/Right Spharai for example. Lotta work for nothing :c But I do get what you are saying, and in theory it could be a neat idea, in practice probably not so much

In 1.0, most (all?) of the classes had an offhand that was a ranged attack. PGL/MNK had throwing discs.

A one handed bow? How does that work? Even a crossbow needs a second hand normally to steady it. I do have to admit that seeing that empty slot on my DRG gets to me sometimes, but I understand that the slot exists mainly for GLD, CNJ, THM so they have a place for the shield. Maybe they shouldn't have confused the playerbase by giving 1 AND 2 handed weapons to THM and CNJ. OP are you by chance an FFXI vet? The straps and grips there were used to rectify a balance issue that heavily favored single handed weapons (namely when they were dual wielded). The one handed weps are balanced in XIV so with a shield they balance out statwise with the 2-handed weps.

I still don't understand why I use my Two Handed Weapon with one hand anyway...

Unnecessary stat sticks? No, thanks.

Other MMOs have the option for offhand/1H mainhand vs 2h handed weapon maybe someday this game will try it.

Yes, yes it did. But the OP specifically mentioned PGL/MNK's off hand being a second fist weapon (well, OP said "second glove" which I assume was referencing a fist weapon anyway), hence my attention to that route. I for one used the chakrams often, but since SE doesn't want ranged ammo items that wouldn't work anyway.

Tho OP wants the AMMO slot for this purpose. ^^;

Im game for this. I was actually wondering this myself, specifically in the case of bards. True, we have a two handed bow that we use, but we also play on a two handed harp that we use for songs (bow is automatically sheathed when song is played).

I'd personally would prefer having different instruments with different buffs (increase accuracy for example) and bonus status effects (and instrument that can stun or sleep a target for x amount of seconds? Lame example, yes, but the first I could come up with)

Also, the fact that the original bard character art has them sporting a flute, not a harp like they have in game. Im somewhat curious as to why tho choose a harp out of all things...

It will have something at some point. It had a spear for spearfishing in 1.0, and they took it out and are going to change it, when though is another story.

they can do it like FFXI with weapon straps, but they'll need to balance the two handed weapons against one handed ones.
