FFXIV Story. Do you like it as much as I do?

Am I the only one who thinks that the story is really great?
People always talk about the music and the graphics when listing the pro's but in my opinion the story is the best part of the game so far.

Sure, it's a bit short, but the characters, the changing development and the last cut scene were all pretty awesome to me.
It is the one thing that really makes me feel that i'm playing a fantasy game at the moment.

On top of that I'm really excited about the Garlean Empire.
They seam very different and overwhelmingly powerful with their technology.
They also have some kick-ass leaders.

I can't wait to learn more about it.

No you are not alone, I totally love the story. I love that the world reflects it, that the NPCs reflect, everything in this game goes hand in hand and the devs take great care in doing that. I don't often if ever feel like I'm being taken out of the game, that's why I'm not a fan of the type of tutorials other MMOs have, because that breaks the illusion that you're in a world and reaffirms that you're in a game.

SE at least knows how to do immersion very well.

I think campaign story is great, missions are designed poorly but I enjoyed the cutscenes. They should've compressed the missions down to like lvl 25 though, there is way too few of them around.

I play RPG for story and FFXIV is real good so far.
I'm so curious where they are going with the Echo.
I'm dying for more Limsa storyline, too. I got shunted off to Ul'dah just as it was getting really interesting.

i think its not bad.
but being one that experience XI, at this point in time still, i prefer the older online version because the storyline was spread out in a possibly longer time frame

I really love the story, I am amazed when I see reviews that show it as its weak point. Sure, they can expand upon it, but that's really a given at this point lol. When I finished the R46 mission, I felt like it really left me hanging and I really wanted to see more. In my opinion, that makes it good, when you want to see what happens next.

I most definitely agree that the story is fantastic; but I will say that it's entirely too disconnected.

The main scenario is easy; meant to be experienced by anyone who picks up the game - however, it doesn't connect very well to the guildleve lore or the class scenarios that you have to work for, and I doubt it'll integrate with the new Company scenarios that we'll have to win the content of. Every storyline seems isolated, and the people in it only seem to care about that particular scenario and the people within it. Some overlap would be great.

I'd love to see all these disconnected lore pieces tied together somehow, because the full experience is going unnoticed by many.

I would love this story if there was more to it. I mean, I love the bits that are there, but, there just isnt enough! Also, the spreading of missions seems a bit off to me. But I guess this just means that the story will expand elsewhere without having to level up, which I also like.

Yes, I do like it, and I love the cutscenes. I believe it could become something amazing.

With that said, I believe it is too unfleshed at the moment, and veers away from nation history/goings on.

EDIT -> I also wish I could go into the merchant's ward whenever I wanted..... simply because I enjoy the music

The story is great the 46 rank mission was an absolute cliffhanger. Too bad it is the product of unfinished development. I hope as the caps start growing we get a very large chunk of story, class and job all intertwined with companies from 1.18 and onward. Its really too bad the game released how it was there was so much that should have been built on. Hopefully yoshi is 100% aware and will work with the team to get this caught up once we get battle and system adjustments out of the way. That should be next on the priority list i think.

The story is great. There just needs to be more of it. We know what they are focused on fixing for the next few months, so get ready for a long cliff hanger lol.

I expect some side-story/lore from the ifrit battle and the quests we're meant to get that unlock jobs. :3

I love the story when I'm in it, then 2 hours afterwards I'm like "i've wanted more for so long, i'm freaking a lil angry" haha, but its not a big deal, just would like more outlets to learn about main storyline and they said they were gonna add it eventually, I'll wait I guess. Lore for me is a big issue in games, I've been known to not play a game based on how awful the lore was, and I'm weary of the new Star Wars game because the classes are based after the original trilogies but the game is set in the old republic, so they changed the class names but its still like "basing old republic classes on the time period of the movie in which we were rediscovering the old republic time period and hence people had changed the way they used classes." sorry for my rant but if the devs see anything its that lore is important for some people so don't half ass it just because we changed teams.

I have really been enjoying the storyline and lore as well! I just wish the missions/quests weren't so far apart from each other and we still had more of our home nation's missions. As Shai said, the story was really getting good back home and then they push us off to another nation and storyline.

I've seen clips of the last mission fight cutscene we have and I soo can't wait to experience it for myself! It looks so awesome! ^_^

I love the story, cinematics, zones, and characters so far. If it wasn't for the space in between the missions (like others have said.), I would think it was probably the best story in any Final Fantasy game. *continues grinding up to 26 to continue the story*

I like the story a lot, it's too bad that a lot of it is convoluted or uses boring mission structures to show it off. Also yeah cliffhanger. I wonder how it's going to develop after

the lead characters just kinda poof off and Judge Vader moves on. It wouldn't surprise me if he turns out to just be the commander of an expeditionary force in charge of prepping the new Garlean invasion of Eorzea. Of course there are so many other questions left unanswered such as who the hell is Trevaunchet(shadowless elezen in LL story) and what really happened years ago in Limsa Lominsa? What is to become of the Order of The Awakened now that they're considered to be in league with the beastmen? Just what the hell is the echo? What are the primals' and the Twelve's roles in all this? Who the hell are the Ascians and why are the Sylphs so worried about otherwordly powers?

Things are definitely going to get much more exciting.

Well for many its what we have to hold onto is thought of everything that can transpire as the game evolves. I hope yoshi and the story design team continue in tanaka's foot steps of what his te started with the story. However, i do want the missions to be more interesting and have party elements.

I like the concept of the echo and the mystery of why we were chosen to have it.

There seems to be a strange quest for "answers" by these "walkers of the path", but what is the path? Is it just a futile struggle for purpose that amounts to nothing? Are we just the god's playthings?

And why do the dragons keep attacking us, the same with the Garlean empire?

Those are questions I would like to find answers to.

There are overlaps, LNC quests involve LNC Guild trying to make a pact with Ul'dah in anticipation against Garlean Empire; ARC Guild involves the Beastmen, the Elemental and Ishgard; PUG Guild involves some Ala Mhigan refugee now reside within the Guild, I can see they eventually meet up with the main storyline with the struggle against Garlean and the Dragons in Ishgard.

i started in gridania and i absolutely loved the mission storyline there, papalymo and yda are a pair of characters where i just enjoy their chemistry and im craving for more of the two^~^

the later storyline of the path and the echo is very intriguing as well with the empire comeing closer till you can feel their breath on your neck.
Its also interesting that the empire excludes us players (since we all have the gift of the echo) from their effort if a "peaceful takeover" and just bunches us up with the beastmen tribes they see as their main focus because of the primals.
im curious how this setting will play out in the future

I just wish there was more of it, not so spaced out. I'm sure future quests and such will fill in the gaps. :)

Kudos to the story team for being able to tie in all the existing class quests subtlely into the overall storyline.

If I remember correctly, the Garlean characters speak with a North American accent. I always thought that was a nice touch.

I agree, I am liking it so far as well. I think it's part of what's keeping me drawn into the game right now.

I'm don't really like the stories of FFXIV when i compare it to other FF games including FFXI, i understand its still at early stages but i hope it leads into some part where my character is unique and important instead of random token character they picked up on the streets of Uldah!

The cutscenes that made me feel like its a FF was the last mission with the Garlean emperor or w/e the guy with Gunblade.

The story so far is great imo, just not enough of it^^ ... and the missions for them are WAAAAY to easy >.< They're a pretty big joke. If they add more and tweak the difficulty so that it's half decently challenging it'll be great :)

So many of the missions are terrible. I have two left and the characters you get established with sort of disappear. Sometimes the missions advance the story by one entire sentence, and that can be really frustrating.

i like it story wise, enjoy reading and learning more. but like others said already it's short and i hate how they slowly put the story in little by little rather then with the box set u bought. very anoying. also i think it needs real battles and challenging ones like cop. but story itself i like and will enjoy learning more, ...long as the rest changes cause i won't stay for shotty gameplay. this is one of my favorite things in pve game that kept me in ffxi over ever wanting to play any other mmo ever. without this, i'll go try some others with the same shottyness to the rpg part of mmo's.

The story is good but for an MMORPG it is too sparse. There's not a lot about the main story revealed but more of the same (you are special with the echo, Garlean empire wants to kill you but there's worse out there) and that's pretty much it so far.

Not a lot of depth yet but I do like the story and it has awesome potential.

I completely, completely agree, the incredible story, the lore, the theistic world, are all the reasons I most love this game.

I like the story, as I always do like FF stories.

But... I kind of wish our avatars were less like a deer in the headlights and actually got more involved during story cut scenes. Maybe they do it this way because they don't want to take away choice from the player, but I'd much rather have my actions decided for me than to see myself stand there and let everyone else participate in the action every cut scene. I feel like I'm being led around by everyone. I felt this way in XI too. Anyone else feel that way?

I do enjoy it so far, but I wish they'd include the character in it more.

Easy main scenario quests? Try doing them as a non-combat class. That R46 mission became hard - took me several tries.

But yes, LOVE the story and lore. I'm still trying to piece together what we know from each of the city quests to create some semi-coherent picture. There are a lot of gaps that can be filled in future additions. It's keeping me on my toes.

I would have to say that The path companion is an odd element to the storyline that i kind of don't like all that much. It takes the place of our own characters because its easier to have a npc do things to advance the storyline than our silent protagonists. NPCs outside our own main character is how a lot of offline games advance the story, like chrono trigger, cross, dragon quests, and i guess to an extent portal. I can see why they decided to bring us that element in the path companion, but iono..
