All that rain in Drybone has me suspicious

Drybone ain't so dry anymore. I do a lot of RP in various places in Thanalan and I've noticed something. That rain out in Eastern Thanalan is really strange.

I've played since 2.0 and it rarely rained in E.Thanalan. Spent hours out there doing sidequest after sidequest. No rain. All the way through the early 2.2 this was true. Now, I stand out there for a few minutes, torrential downpour. Sideways freaking hurricane-like rain. It used to be dust storms and sun. Now there's like a few minutes of sun then it rains again.

Even stranger. No other zone has this kind of rain. It's usually the calm normal rain. The other areas of Thanalan aren't affected by this rain. It's pouring in Eastern, go to Central, and it's dry. I've stood in central for hours and didn't see a drop of rain.

SUSPICIOUS. I refuse to believe this is some sort of addition for fishing conditions or something. This isn't normal rain.

My current theory is that this is an omen. Look back at the last stages of 1.x. It rained for days when Dalamud started affecting the atmosphere. While it's unlikely the second moon is going to plummet to the ground, there is one thing that it could be.

Eastern Thanalan is closest to South Shroud where the sylphs live and what's coming? Ramuh. Ramuh's associated with lightning, which could be associated with storms. I haven't stayed in South Shroud long enough to tell if that's the case there too, but what if it's a sign, an omen that Ramuh is coming and the weather-aether is going nuts? What do you guys think?

Neat theory! But I think its just a coincidence in your case. I've always taken note of how heavy the rain is in Eastern Thanalan (probably because its so odd in a place called DRYbone) and I know for sure it has had heavy rain since I started playing during the 2.0 beta. I think just by some fluke you were never in the zone when it was raining before recently. For me, I can't ever seem to visit while its not raining, that place needs a new name.

Seems like Camp Wet-to-the-Bone has always been like that.

The question is... where is all that water going? Into the huge canyon at High Bridge? Into some gigantic subterranean Sea?

Could the fall of Dalamud permanently altered the planet's own climate patterns by it's descent into our atmosphere? Tidal waves for instance are affected by our own Moon's proximity to us and the the gravitational field it emits by its size and distance from us (crazy considering how freakishly far it is in reality) But could Dalamud, having come from quite a distance out and all the way through our own Atmosphere, every single layer of it, have pushed things a bit too far one way or another? It's been raining like crazy since 2.0 launched actually, I noticed that during the storyline missions, those sudden torrential downpours as you mentioned, we never had anything like that in 1.0. We had some spectacular lightning storms, but nothing like this with rain. Part of that I'm sure has to do with the new engine yes, but the frequency of it is rather odd.

Going along that, sort of off topic, but as the name suggests -Drybone, it's a shame they couldn't have designed the terrian to respond to weather the way FF12's landscapes sometimes did. With alternate routes forming due to the amount of rain we receive, new monster spawns (or fates) which can only come out during certain weather/landscape patterns.

Ah well.

Even in the very first weeks of the game, I heard a lot of 'DRYBONE MORE LIKE WETBONE AMIRITE' jokes going around.

I had just assumed it was seasonal. It is Spring and I guessed a little more rainy for that clime is normal.

I don't fully understand why, but whenever I see the heavy rain in Drybone, I always think of this song.

Must be something to do with my childhood upbringing. <3

I spent a lot of time in the Drybone area in 2.0 and early 2.1 doing GC leves, botany, and every sidequest I could get my hands on. I think it rained twice in the entire time I was there. I honestly cannot remember if it was sideways rain or not, but it wasn't this much. This is too much and none of the other zones seem to match the frequency, which is where the conspiracy theory comes from.

I actually have considered that Dalamud's fall changed the weather permanently. Which now that I think of it, there's a chunk of Dalamud out in The Burning Wall. What if this is connected to Dalamud / Coil instead? /ponders many ideas.

Close enough :) According to certain levequest (I don't remember its name, sorry >.<), the aetheric flow changed, and since then it has been raining a lot in Thanalan, even if it's a desert. It makes even more sense in eastern, as you can see all the crystal spikes of corrupted aether. A similar thing happened in Coerthas, for example, and that's why at least the part we can see right now (central) is covered in snow.

Regarding any change in the amount of rains in eastern since 2.2, it has always been the same for me, so it might just be the nature of the RNG :P

personally; I think calling the place DRYbone and having it rain almost 24/7 there is just the producers little joke.

The Battle of Silvertear Skies changed the aether of the land drastically and Dalamud's ascent extrapolated this drastically. Thanalan isn't actually a desert it's just a pretty dry place and that's why Ul'dah works because of the access to water (a reason why the Sil'dih-Ul'dah war happened with a drought). The aether of the land has had a chance to recover and return to what it once was...a real desert would be Sagoli to the south (not just the place around Forgotten Springs) home/ruins of Sil'dih and Pagl'than the home land of the Amalj'aa.

Yes, these two are part of the reason of why the aetheric currents changed, but Dalamud's descent didn't affect Hydealyn just in the same way as our moon would affect the Earth, and that's why I said that it was close. Anyway, from what we learn in certain place, one would think that the aether is not actually recovering, but quite the opposite :/

Also, by "a lot" I meant "more than what would normally rain in a desert of these characteristics", keeping in mind that most of Thanalan would fall under the category of a semiarid desert. So, of course there is water in deserts, but not in abundace and only in certain parts, and that's exactly why Sil'dih and Ul'dah fought for such an important and strategic resource in that place.

Moreover, it seems that current rains in Thanalan are not dictated by a rainy season, in which the super rainy weather would actually make sense in eastern due to it being savannah-like, but are an anomaly as stated on the levequest that I mentioned. If people in Thanalan say that, it might be because the weather there actually changed from what they had been noticing over the years :p

I'm starting to think that's the case. I just honestly don't remember it raining that damn much in 2.0 and 2.1. (I've talked to a lot of people in game, and they're noticing this rain too). This might just be me hoping for a=some really good ominous foreshadowing.

You would be correct. I was looking at the wrong map when I wrote that. Blows the sylph theory out of the water a bit, doesn't it? It does put E. Thanalan closer to Amdapor, though.

That is true. Hydaelyn isn't earth. It's governed by aether. Now technically, an Umbral era (if the end of the 2.0 storyline is anything to go by) should mean that Hydaelyn is repairing itself and recovering from the last Calamity, but you may be on to something here that I hadn't quite considered at first. The aether permanently changed the weather in Coerthas, so why would Thanalan be any exception to this?

Well you have to remember that Drybone was named as such back before the calamity and in 1.0 i don't think it rained there much, if ever.

I don't remember 1.0 even having any weather other than "sunny".

I have a feeling it's an omen, something tells me the next set of coil will be located in drybone. And the rain has something to do with the bahamut presence there.

Its actually not that far fetched. There's a allagan ragnorak fragment of some kind at the burning wall with a pathway thats inaccessiable leading into it. Coil 3 will probably be there. There's also tons of allagan enemies there too in the burning wall like the mirror knights.

I feel like whatever the burning wall turns out to be, it'll be big. I mean BIG. It's such a huge chunk of area formed of that corrupted aether, that it wouldn't surprise me if it turned out to be the entrance for the final Turn, or maybe even a whole new area connected to a bunch of new Turns.

I'm pretty sure that the text for a fate there pretty much says that the mirror knights are or came from Dalamud fragments, so chances are when we finally get access to that allagan structure we'll see some game-changing information on Dalamud.

I think its funny how everyone glossed over the post that brought up seasons so they could go all out on wild theories of dalamud and bahamut lol.

Are you insinuating that the Allagans created both Dalamud and mirrorknights!? LUDICROUS!

Also, what's interesting is that the sightseeing log refers to the giant fragment in the North Shroud as a neurolink, which means we might be a little off in assuming the above-ground Coil entrances are Ragnaroks.
