Looking for advice on ATMAs grind; what do you do?

Everyone seems to be bagging on people who complain about ATMAs farming. (I think it's messed up, we don't know their lifestyle.)
I'm on my last four ATMAs pieces for my first ATMAs weapons and I've been stuck on them for the last two weeks, and so forth.
I can barely keep awake during most of these considering I've seen these fates over 100s of times now, and not a drop in sight.
I do sleep enough to stay away, but I'm honestly drop dead bored of it. The new upgrade is right around the corner and I'm already behind.
I can't keep myself motivated or awake anymore, and I hate coffee.
Also, I've experimented with theory's to keep my motivation up, but thats pointless

I need advice. And please don't tell me "You don't need to do it", because that's not the point, I want to get my Animus, I could care less about a steady myth grind. I just can't handle this whacky RNG. I got two pieces on the first fate, and now I haven't gotten a drop for two weeks. what am I doing wrong?

There is no "wrong". The whole quest is pure RNG. You get the Atmas when the game feels like it.

Just finished mine over the weekend (sank about 8-10 hours into it, I think). What worked for me was cordoning off a section of the zone and ignoring anything outside that section, then alt-tabbing to the internet with the map uncovered.

After two weeks of grinding an average of 3 to 4 hours a night, 5-6 days a week and only having 2/12 atma, I gave up.

Most of the time, I'm passive about fates for ATMA. I've been trying to level up low level classes since I have a level 50, but while running around with low level classes, if I run across a fate, sometimes I switch to my 50 and take on the fate with high hopes. So far? Only a single ATMA has dropped. I can't be too mad because I don't spend lots of time on it.

As far as advise, just keep doing what you're doing because from what I can gather, they're just rare, very rare so all you can do is fate grind. I personally fear doing that because it seems like it would be very boring.

I would farm one region at a time, one zone at a time. Usually, I would farm for an hour, then do something else. Dungeons, trials, crafting, logging off and go outside, etc. I think the trick is to do it in spurts. Don't farm one area for like 8 hours at a time, you'll go crazy. Do it in hour long bursts. Helps prevent burnout that way.

When I was farming, I would spend 8 hours in one zone, doing nothing but Atma. I got really close to burning out on ARR.

I'll definitely pick and choose my sections to farm off of, that'll make it easier for me. I'd rather be watching video on the weird side of youtube than run all over the maps, especially lower la noscea.

What I did and believe me I hated fates before atmas came around for my last 5 I went to the first I needed on my list did 5 fates or until there was none to do ( like central than.) and moved to the next and so forth .. I also watched movies which oh yes it helped and I jumped on vent and talked with some friends makes the time fly by and keeps you awake all at the same time.. Even joining a party helps the key is don't give up and don't just fate grind.. My last two I got right after getting out of a dun landed back in a fate did it and bam there it was xD

Honestly, do whatever is the least boring. What I do is craft full sets of gear to spiritbond and quit once I run out (or am completely bored). If I don't get Atma, then at least I'm getting Materia, so it isn't a complete waste of time.

I recommend going for atma of the Fish first. As I've stated in other threads, it's the worst place to have to farm as the distance of the map and distance between FATEs is so radical… ¬_¬

On another note; if I'm going for atma, I usually try to que into Coil as DPS while FATE spamming. If atma doesn't drop and Coil procs, at least I have the chance at getting some nifty Coil gear? But I usually don't give up until I actually get the atma or I'm just tired at that point. Which I then have to wake up to another day of SSDD.

What did I do? I just did the Notorious Monster fates and skipped the others. The drop rate improved when I did those one.

I just finished my last 2 atmas this weekend. Joined a fate nearby after I finished a dungeon and got my atma of the bull. I wouldn't spend more than an hour in a zone, change it up do something else, craft, farm,myth, anything so at least you don't feel like time was wasted. Especially after how many hours and not having atma to show for it. gL on the grind!

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll do what I can. I just feel like if I miss a fate, that fate was gonna give me an ATMA's.
It's a trap I tell you, it's all a trap!

Honestly, I finished mine in about a week of casual farming. By 'casual farming' I mean that I still did my normal things like gathering and leveling. If a fate popped nearby, I'd change classes and go participate then go back to whatever I was doing before. The times that I DID outright farm it was because it was what I felt like doing. I got the difficult areas out of the way up front (Lower La Noscea, Central Thanalan, Central Shroud, East Shroud) so that it could only get better. If at any point I was frustrated or I felt like I didn't want to do it anymore, I'd stop and go do something else for awhile. Yeah the RNG thing is a trap. It's kind of like opening gacha boxes on F2P games: you always feel like the next one is gonna be the one that gives you the rare item.

Just farm for 10 hours + on a day you're free, honestly you'll feel like crap/ zombie but i'm 99.9% positive you'll get 1.
Follow the fate priority list.
Kill X amount of enemies > defending items/gathering items> beast tribes / boss fates > special boss fates ( it's not lupus etc )
Always do the low level fates and then the higher ones cuz it'll most likely be zerged down before u get there after thus making u miss an opurtunity.,
It's best to atma farm when ppl on your server is asleep( i.e
Admantoise has a lot of ppl offline past 1am )
So that'll allow you to go through almost every fate without having to worry about other fates being completed.

What Yumi said, I've got 8/12, and am working on the La Nosca areas already and got the Lower one already; working on Central.

On a side note, I keep seeing people DEFEND this system, but I find it to be bad game design. Why? Because it's a game. Games are supposed to entertain you, and this isn't entertaining. They always argue that, "Hurrr, stop complaining and put on youtube/netflix/hulu/whatever and zone out", but that's NOT what you should be doing when playing a video game. Video games are made to entertain, not bore you!

Hang in there. Few hundred FATEs and you'll be braindead and just go through with it in zombie mode. And when you finally get your weapon recolor, you won't be able to be happy for it, the only thing you'll feel like doing is /shrug.

In zones that are really large or split into two areas, I just stayed in one part instead of trying to run all over. Even with chocobos it can be hard to reach all of them.

once youve been in a zone long enough you will know where the auto spawn fates are, which ones must be manually triggered, which ones have secondary fates that follow, and their general time spent solo or in groups to complete.

Based on this, you can predict pretty reliably where to go for ideal chance at full fate credit on more fates per hour as well as when to travel out of the way to get 2 or 3 before others re-pop.

Comes with practice.

For those with jobs or other responsibilities, it will be helpful for you to feign an illness of some type (perhaps for an extended time). Pneumonia comes to mind if you can't think of one.

Well, at least if you don´t wear anything other than your zenit weapon... that would clearly be wrong.

The fact that so few people have Atma and Animus weapons already got Square's attention. But based on their reply in the last producer letter, they basically said "We heard your complaints but we feel there's nothing wrong with the system as is currently, but here, have some more grinds for mythology tomes if you got that far."

Really hate that. Honestly hate it more than a lot of other things.
I liked the fact that getting your relic weapon took skill, then getting zenith before soldiery took patience, and lots of dungeoning.
But to boast about having ATMA's isn't that great. You either got lucky, or wasted hours upon hours getting it. I'm sadly wasting too many hours doing it.
Can I get my life back? lmfao.

As others have said, the longer sessions are, the more likely it is that one might completely give up. Here's a few things I learned on the way to an Atma weapon.

1. Party up! Yes, it is supremely annoying to see the inevitable "Got it. Thanks for the group!" appear, but I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages here. You'll know you aren't alone in the struggle. You won't have to do FATEs alone. Instigating fun party chat helps to stave off boredom. Even better is to get some voice chat into the mix. FC's are great for this, if they're willing to keep you company.

2. Get out that chocobo! While you're Level Syncing all over the place, why not get some experience for your stalwart companion? It makes the FATEs slightly easier, and you're actually accomplishing a little of something every time an Atma doesn't drop.

3. Spiritbind! Your gear won't matter an iota if you're level synced. Why not put on some lower tier gear and get some materia out of this whole situation?

4. Don't give up! This one may sound difficult, but the one thing that's absolutely true about Atmas is that the only way to never get them is to not try.

5. Remember to equip a Zenith! Check for that telltale glow every once in a while... just to make sure.

6. Watch for trolls! I've seen Atma groups in the Party Finder for zones that do not have an Atma, such as Northern Thanalan. Be careful and don't join these to grind a bunch of FATEs for absolutely nothing.

^ Agree with all that. Make sure to join a choco-friendly party so that you can get your choco some ranks.

If there isn't one, make your own choco-friendly party. :3

There is practically all said to not just throw the ones away you already got and give up completely xD

I have already gotten 52 of needed 72 Atma (don't hate me, i'm farming 2 hours per weekday and around 6 hours per weekend day, so 22 hours per week since the release of 2.2). As playing for a horizonal progression instead of a peak vertical progression is heavily punished now. Without wanting to raid it's really the only thing left to do after daily duties for me.

I'm getting 5,7 Atma per week, theoretically at least, with a total of 200+ hours (including the time spent at 2.2 release when i was off work/studies) grinding fates while watching TV etc. I took a break after my first Atma of 3 weeks its really only 5 weeks for 40 Atma though.

Anyways my point is:
When i started grinding for my other classes, after getting down from the initial frustration this stupid RNG progression brought, i found the farming theory that's based on your local time. (Google: japanese atma farming theory)

Please: No discussions about that here, you can't prove that it doesn't improve the droprate as well that I can't prove that it does.

If you want to believe in it do, if you don't, don't bash it. It served me well as my personal Mojo and it forces me to change zones on a regular basis so i don't turn crazy staying like 8h+ in one area like on my first set. So it's a win win for me ^o^

tl&dr: my short list:

1.) Don't overdo it
2.) Change areas on a regular basis
3.) get yourself a heal Chocobo stage 4+, you can easily solo any fate boss (except the 30 minute ones), mine is lvl 8 heal and a mix of tank and dps and it serves me very well in free stance most of the time.
4.) Get yourself a comrade in crime, someone who still needs atma, best in voice chat so you don't have to type. Taking steam off verbally about not getting a drop for hours really helps out at times.
5.) The most important one: Keep in mind, you will be done at one point! Freedom! Myth grind pace is all up to you, if you want to do a book per day or just get tomes from duty roulette daily, it is all up to you

RNG doesn't feel rewarding. It doesn't feel rewarding for those who are lucky, and it certainly doesn't feel rewarding for those who wasted forever attempting it. Make people earn it by making people do something that requires skill.

As for me, I just came back to the game to find this. ::sigh:: I hoped I would be lucky, but yesterday after 9 hours of pure grinding, I received nothing. What a discouraging thing to come back to.

Lots of options to make it also a grind but still having a fail safe.
Simple solution: 30mins-120mins buff after completing your first FATE, buff odds of getting Atma could go up 1% after each completed FATE without getting one....so you know that even if you're incredibly unlucky you'll get it if you do 100 fates.
Resets to 0 when you change zones or after you get an atma

I made blood sacrifices to the Random Number God. And after that the whole quest took 6-8 hours. From 1/12 to 12/12. First one took 4 h so I gave the RNG blood sacrifices. It worked very good after that.

When ATMA grinding on a map, I tend to prioritize higher-level FATES for the seals. Click on the gil icon to switch to Company Seals display. I may also wind up spiritbonding gear so that it isn't a complete waste; I got some materia for my crafting classes this way, and you may get lucky with Mutamix...

...but I got two atmas by following it, with only the first attempt being a failure. Follow Japanese Standard Time. If nothing else, just do one of these a day to prevent burning out.

I'm a bit weirded out by my results so far, though...

Oh, and incidentally, I had my Zenith glamoured too. It doesn't have any bearing on the chances (went full days without one), but I got... uh, five? In all. So if you don't want to deal with that weapon glow...
