Buffing players while they're viewing cutscene

What's the big deal here? Why can't we throw Stoneskin and Protect on people that are viewing a cutscene? Furthermore, why don't pets like SCH pets and Chocobo pets take protect when cast? Is it too OP or something?

hm, well i don't know about the Chocobo thing. it doesn't seem like there would be any harm in allowing us to buff them. but what do i know? noughta! anyhow, about the cut-scene thing. i am not 100% on this one either. but i am sure it's usefulness will be more apparent later on. it's currently useful in the sense that the instance won't allow anyone to move forward until everyone is done watching the cut-scene. and then if you are in an open-map area with hostile enemies around. you wouldn't want to be killed during the cut-scene :P

That's why there's a circle you can't move out of until everyone completes the initial loading cutscene. But it doesn't explain buffs. It's already possible to cast Stoneskin and Protect while you're waiting in that circle, and it will work on other players who have already finished the cutscene. It just doesn't work on the player(s) who are still in the cutscene.

if you could put protect on a pet they could probably tank twintania lmao. they already take such limited damage.

Can't you just wait 5 seconds for your party to be ready?

Any action would make the chat box pop up during cut-scene. Probably to prevent that.

This. the Fairies, Ifrit and Garuda can take serious amounts of damage. Titan even more. Compared to us they take almost no damage from AoE moves are raid wide damage mechanics.

The only thing I have ever seen Garuda die to is Titan's mountain buster. For everything else the pets can take a ton of damage and be fine.

I think it could be explained as logically the person in CS is not available to the content ^^

good point, I should say from system view, their content have not started at the moment so their status couldn't be changed(buff) by other players^^

I never understood why Stoneskin can be applied to my Choccobo but Protect can't. Seriosuly, why is it this way lol? Any meaningful buff prevention system behind it or was Stoneskin overlooked and shouldn't be applicable either?

What's funny is you can see the Protect animation being applied to the Chocobo, but it doesn't appear to actually be buffing it!

My guess is that it has to do with the way pets and chocobo companions are sort of members of the party and sort of not. They'll appear on the party list for the person who summoned them, but not on other members' party lists. Stoneskin is applied directly to a specified target, so that wouldn't matter. Protect applies to any members of your party who are near you. Apparently the piece of code deciding who qualifies doesn't consider them full members of the party. (As I said, though, that's just my guess.)

The flying text actually says this: "Protect: Has no effect!"

It's set to auto fail, just like how you can't spam Cure on the rocket turrets in the Castrum dungeon, but for Chocobos I don't know why.
