Duty Commenced Feedback Thread

As a big fan of these Duty Commenced episodes I'm opening up a thread to start offering some feedback to let the Community Reps know what we like and don't like about the show as well as things we'd like to see.


First I'd like to point out what I do like:
1) It doesn't feel too formal and for Reps that are supposed to be our voice to the devs I think that's great. It makes me feel a bit more on a personal level with the team
2) I like the personalities, I think Bayo and Camate are funny together and seeing the back and forth when talking about the game is amusing and keeps me interested
3) I really like the graphics added in, that looks cool and it seems like you guys put a lot of time into it :D
4) The entertainment is just good. As someone guilty of multi-tasking while watching the Producer Live Letters, you guys kept my attention throughout the show
5) I also really like when they talked about threads in the forums. Makes it feel like you guys do genuinely care about our community

What I don't like:
1) I found the contest to be slightly unfair, I saw a mountain of replies streaming in before I actually heard the question. I like the idea of a contest for the Duty Commenced episodes, but I hope you all look into making a little more fair for everyone
2) I was actually surprised the voice sync issue wasn't fixed, I hope you all fix it before the next episode

What I'd like to see:
1) I'd like to see Hvinire on screen, feels weird hearing him as a disembodied voice off in the background. Even if he was just on his computer the whole time :p
2) Some more interaction with the chat room. There was a little interaction and I did like that, I'd like to see more talking about what's going on in chat even if it was just a dedicated portion of the show to answer questions (to the best of your ability)

^This and I'd also like to see the NA community get just a little advanced info considering that now our community has been damaged by our loss of Reinheart. Without him we will officially be the last ones to know anything.

I have to agree on the contest aspect. Twitch streams, due to a multitude of variables, are really unfair for holding something like 'who says x first in the chat'. Perhaps look into using an IRC client and bot to help pull out and log all correct answers (I know how quickly Twitch chat can get fly by) in x time, removing/disqualifying duplicate answer spam, and select one randomly from that pool of correct answers. This is much more fair to all viewers and less based on who has the best bandwidth. There are also a variety of apps out there for running contests based on who is live watching, who is chatting, etc.

The graphics were a fun touch, maybe look into a soundboard so you can have the related sound effects tied to them for next time (limit filling, limit used, clicking through menus, duty complete, etc).

I also agree with above about interacting with the chat room more. People really feel like part of the discussion and less a spectator when they are acknowledged in live (or delayed live per Twitch).

Perhaps see if you can get the rights for sharing artwork images more clearly from previous Live Letters. I love seeing Yoshi hold up the artwork, but sometimes we can't see all the details too well due to the distance of the camera. If you guys could put up closer, still scans, that might be a nice bonus for folks to see.

The whole thing seemed kind of sausagefesty, but I did enjoy the tribute to the old Godzilla movies they had by dubbing the voice track a second and a half after the video track.

Agreed with much of what was said on top, I enjoyed the bits I was there to see. As it stands, I look forward to seeing what they do. Even if they can't give any real info, I'm glad they're out there making their faces better known.

Also...yeah didn't hear about that. What happened to Reinheart?

He got a job translating in the FFXIV localization team for S.E. which I hope they get to talk about actually.

When I watched the stream, I couldn't help but feel that they were rambling on about information that had already been posted amongst the forums, Lodestone, or elsewhere, or was otherwise unconfirmed speculation on rumors that have been going on for a while. It'd be nice to get more solid NEW information akin to that from Yoshida's Live Letters, but in English so we don't have to wait on translations made weeks later or rely on generous fans like Reinhart to translate it on the fly for us.

Other than that, I thought the game HUD was a neat idea. I also thought it was cool that they gave away a soundtrack, but it seemed rather sudden and unorganized, especially with people trying to get text answers in on Twitch.

Episode 2 was a huge step up from Episode 1's awkwardness, props there.

Sadly though it sucks we don't get to see much even though we get to hear them voice themselves a little. Would be nice if Yoshi would let Duty commence get some spoilering love for us instead of hogging it all for his live letter.

I wonder if Yoshi-P is aware of BE NICER TO CAMATE!

I enjoyed it, my only issue was the time change. They had it at the time i was leaving work. Last time I believe it was at least 2 hours sooner. I was able to catch it then. Is there some kind of a rerun of it, so we can catch it maybe later in the day?

I'm hoping the same, I got home and got to it just as they were saying their final good byes, and I'd really like to go back and watch it, if at all possible, even if there's no "new good info" I really enjoy the banter and personalities, and the first episode made me laugh really hard

oh... btw, Bayohne <3 singing, and I can't believe ppl asked him not to sing at Duty Commenced E2. Many hardcore fans at form often "read" about Bayohne's singing but never witness an actual event:

there are also lots humming in the office that we heard Dev team mention/complained about :P

I hope Bay & the other community reps keep this up. I read people's comments about this event on reddit & other places and some were just downright hateful & rude. Expecting the pot of gold knowing full well a live letter is right around the corner. I don't see any other MMO doing events such as this, yet people keep posting comments that don't even need to be said. All I have to say is keep up the great work guys & refine that craft!

Honestly? I thought it was pretty dire.

The audio sync was annoying, although it might be a twitch issue.

The information was all massively old and not very interesting to begin with.

It felt awkward.

I just don't see the point of it. I appreciate the effort put in, but you need to make it worthwhile for the watcher. Make the competition fairer. Stream some gameplay, have a meetup in game, etc.

I'd like to see a talk radio style portion where they have a guest that talks about lore or something and people can skype in and ask questions or debate like hose conspiracy radio shows. Lol.

coolest part was everyone trying to convince Camate to both take off his shirt and kiss Foxclon...

There was very little that yoshida hasn't already said. I guess their not allowed to spill the beans before the producer letter. However seeing as Reinhart isn't around to do the translations anymore . we will just have to rely on the dev tracker when they answer the questions and they don't normally have a full transcript till several days later.

I'd love it if they could throw us a bone, something to make news even if its not the big reveal that the producers letters are

Negativity always beats out positive comments in number, I hope the community reps don't take it too much to heart :/

Camate might be wearing a bit too much/loose clothing but otherwise it was really good.

Maybe you could talk about gear progression for new 50s?

I find it interesting that none of the CMs actually made an "official Duty Commenced Feedback thread" considering we get them for a lot of things, but not this? weird I tell you.

Anyway, I really like the show. It is much better than the typical livestream CM stuff from other games. That being said...

1) There really needs to be some new information in a show.
Whether that be a screenshot, a piece of concept art, or some sort of minor announcement of something upcoming. The show needs a purpose to be here and simply going over information that has already been translated (by Reinheart or by the CMs and posted on the forums) is just not enough.

2) If you are going to make this a "recap of recent events" then expand on what has already been said.
Telling us about NicoNico is nice, but all that info has been disseminated since the event. Tell us more specifics about what was said or its just a rehash.

3) Use the show to spotlight something in the community.
You had the perfect opportunity. Announcing the Screenshot winners for NA/EU on the livestream by putting together something as simple as a 2 and a half minute video slideshow of the winning screenshots and put it at the end of the broadcast would have been a real treat. Especially since the forum post went up within 24 hours. There is potential here, use it.

4) As much as we like the fancy UI overlay, we want real "art".
We need to see game footage, video, PR art, not just your lovely faces.

They should be showing translations for us now that our Reinheart isn't available.

Good thing he doesn't sing Otherworld and The Fires of Suzaku and I don't mean this in a bad way.

Just saying he has more to sing to now.
