6/10 almost fell for it
why is this topic being made every few weeks lol.
Cost? Wait well how come free to play game can afford it! That makes no sense!
Your arguement is cost, yet we pay $15 a month already when FTP games have it!
And Harassment? You can just as easily type to someone! You just mute them!
Start looking at both sides and how it would punish a different group if they did include it. And don't try to say it wouldn't be an issue, because it would be. Voice chat EXISTING, even in third party form, has already caused some people harm. And all this, I still agree it's a tool that can be useful.
So I'm basically saying you ignored all the cons in that post or disregarded them.
Your right, I have ignored the consequences and cons of adding voice chat to a game making it easier to communicate!
My god what have I done!? I hope they don't take my suggestion seriously and add voice chat in!
We'd decend into anarchy! Quick Delete post! Admin, Mod, help! DELTE DELETE! CODE BROWN!
*sigh* No. My point is that you see it a certain way, you see it as a useful tool to help communication and such. You ignore the problems an "official" VC can bring to those who play the game. You ignore that there are people from many different cultures who play this game, some who don't normally use Voice Chat in games at all.
Also, your OP was basically asking why we don't have it. That thread from 2 years ago tells you why, then you bust out with the sarcasm riddled backlash about it.
Add in the fact that pretty much every built in voice chat for MMOs has been absolutely terrible.
Play dota2, every body using voicechat. Everything that's come out usually uninteligible voice, crappy music, or someone yelling to their mom
Just a troll.
Yoshida said no, move along.
The "official" reason given to us a while back was that the director was afraid people who didn't want to use voice chat may be forced to using it when they don't want to. Which imo is a stupid reason, lol. Why not give us an optional feature because a few people are too afraid to simply say "no" when asked to use it? Or lie and say they don't have a mic.
Dungeons should've had chat at a minimum.
PS3 limitations.
Easy answer impossible because of cross platform.
SOE have really good built in void chat since they invested heavily in it.
Other company's... Not so much.
When VC was added into EQ2 I immediately noticed that the politeness in PUGs went way way up. Most people are a lot less comfortable being jerks through voice than they are using text. They are also way more willing to explain fight mechanics if they don't need to type them in.
actually hate to say this but this is a fair point. Practically most fc's doing coil now have a requirement to have access to teamspeak or the like.
PS3/PS4 have the ability to use a chat system in a game and if there was a universal one in game it would bring both platforms together and removing the need for 3rd party chat programs.
however one thing only in dungeons/raids and give the ability to mute or disable mic if you don't want to talk etc.
Considering the amount of abuse that some players cop from simple text chat, I shudder to even think of the kind of toxicity that comes with integrated voice chat.
In before on voice comm: I'm a gamer gurl lolz don't hate guyz
I dont wanna have a voice chat. Voice chats in mmorpgs destroy the immersion of the game.
No problem with voice chat in simulation games like Arma or Il-2 Sturmovik, but not in mmorpgs!
If there was in game voice chat I'd keep it disabled. Preferably it won't auto stream in the background. Because yech. Something irrelevant to add to the loading of everything else. Nty.
It won't be long before people start complaining about encounters where people abuse in game voice chat by either being creepers, making annoying sounds, or playing awful music... it's a bad idea.
At least with 3rd party voice chat programs we can choose a selective group of people we can listen to and it's within our control to kick out and mute troublemakers as the group sees fit.
Why doesn't XIV have built-in voice chat? Simply put, Japan doesn't use VOIP. They do everything over in-game messages. I realize some of you may say "But the rest of the world uses it." Problem is, Japan doesn't exactly communicate with the rest of the world, so they see no need for it. Just use Skype, Vent, Mumble, or TS3 if you want voice chat. Otherwise, better work on your WPM. :)
Please no voice chat. Theer are plenty of groups for you to join who already require voice chat. Not everyone are American with native English. I don't want to have 90% of parties requiring voice chat to join and ignoring the fact that I understand 100% through chat text and 15% when I HEAR the language. (especially with accents, I can't understand at all).
So yeah, for raiding, for me, text is much much better than voice chat. I know you can just say "just don't use it and it won't affect you" but it actually will since it will most likely raise the amount of parties requiring voice chat since it will be much more accesible to players.
no, this is not correct.
i played WKC2 JPN for awhile. and i am here to tell you, the locals loved using voice chat. however, they would only use it if everyone was speaking Japanese. (even restricting non-JPN players out who couldnt VC) Japanese players have very little to do with this decision. the bottom line is they, just like us, would rather hear someone in their native language. the easiest solution to this is making VC a 3rd party function so that you have better control over it.
the day this turns into some crappy FPS, with god awful VC to where i hear 13 y/o cussing or people talking to their pets or some god awful music, will be the last day i pay for a sub.
If you're on PC, the various VC programs like Mumble and Teamspeak are better than any game built-in solution anyways.
If you're on PS3/PS4, there is built-in voice chat through PSN and you can use it if you want to, plus everyone owns a PC or smartphone so they can VC with their PC brethren anyways on their laptop or smartphone.
The game doesn't need VC built in, you're swimming in usable VC solutions if you like VC.
There are people who dont want to be on voice chat 24/7, there are even no-voice FCs (and optional vioce FCs). I know that because I am in one. Guess this is implemented and what might happen then. "Activate voice or kick" is not improving random partys.
Not everyone speaks (and hears) english well, enforcing this is just a bad idea.
not everybody also plays in an environnement where voice chat is suitable, not everybody can speak or even has the ability to speak. That would already give a reason to ostracize some category of people...or kick peop'le because they dont use chat from a dunjeon for example.
No no chat this is bad enough

This in a nutshell. If I wanted to hear immature people scream at me over a video game I'd play CoD. My favorite roulette parties have become the ones that don't say anything if only because then people won't start screaming about how much everyone else sucks.
and not to rehash the dev post on the matter. 1 BIG obstacle is that the servers, while regional, and de facto language servers, are not language specific and you can't auto translate voice. I can muddle through reading spanish german and a little japanese but hearing it is a different part of the brain and I can't do that on the fly, especially with the speed they talk. My FC has several people for which English is not their first language, they aren't always understood over mumble but text works fine.
1) How is mandatory chat for raids a CON? Is typing/communicating already a requirement for these things? what am I reading!? It's an mmo.... not a single player fanfest of nonsense where we party up as mutes.
2) Female Gamers - ... I'm sorry... then just don't talk.... or you know, we can keep hiding behind this justification FOREVER making woman uncomfortable to talk.... ridiculous fear mongering.
3) Bandwith costs... REALLY..... then gives those that struggle that much the option to completely avoid receiving/seinding it... meanwhile the other 99% of mmo gamers can talk.
4) WHAT? sound effect!? wut ... just..... wut....
So I have to put up with console gamers .... that more often than not don't even have a keyboard in my parties and raids.... because of these excuses?
This is a PC/Console cross over... the ONLY way to effectively get any kind of decent level of communication is through an integrated voice chat.
