It shouldn't take too long. Dungeons give loads of EXP along with guildhests and leve quests, and fates are still an option too. Leveling other classes (Which are related to your main class) grants you cross-class skills which will immensely assist you.
took me 4 weeks to get my first 50, that was mainly following the storyline a bit and dungeon-grinding before the dungeon boosts, if i only bought it today probably 2 weeks now, but if i just started a fresh character with all the things i already know then probably a week
What's the fastest way to grind to 50 with minimal effort? Running about gathering bags of crap and counting planks is kind of getting me down, so I figure maybe it'd be more fun just zooming upward collecting more of the square icobs that go in my hotbar. Sone of them have cool pictures even if I don't know what they're for.
I'm currently in Moby Dick Bay Drydocks. Is there a dungeon near there?
Ps I've only got 3 weeks of gametime left before I finish, so I'd like to get to 50 before that.
Since you two are tanks you can get a lot of XP running both Duty Roulette and whatever the highest level dungeon you have available is as tanks usually have fast queue times. Duty roulette has the added benefit of giving you some nice cash rewards if your role is in demand. Compliment this with your storyline quests and you can get to level cap pretty quickly. You can probably get to level cap in 3 weeks to a month playing casually.
You will want to level other classes for abilities as mentioned, but you will also want to do it so that you can unlock your job which provides new abilities and a significant performance/stat boost.
I have to admit that so far I'm not feeling the tankiness, tbh. Shouldn't I have some sort of distance pull ability? I'm well up for taking aggro for the team, but the group things i've been in so far, mobs aren't sticking to me particularly even though I'm spamming a wide range of my attacks. I'm weilding an axe.
You get more abilities later on that allow you to increase your hate. Early on, there's only 1 maybe 2 abilities if you're not using cross-class abilites. Keep in mind that if you are losing hate all the time, then you need to use your hate increasing abilities more often and that not all your attacks increase your hate, only some of them. Look at the ability description to see which ones do.
DPS have a habit of being able to grab hate if from you if you're not careful. I've had tanks tell me to slow my dps down (???) because I kept grabbing hate from them.
You get a pull ability from your level 15 class quest.
Ooh, cool. How do I find out Where that is? I'm a marauder and I'm currently in Moby Dick Harbour. I have a teleport spell tgat gets me to Limpopo Town, and also Springfield I think its called.
Coral Tower aetheryte shard in Limsa.
For group aggro, use Overpower when you get it. You may also want to level gladiator (from Ul'dah) to 6 for Flash. Really you should get it to 22 for Provoke but that could probably wait.
I've been playing for nearly a month, a few hours a day, mainly was doing the story line with very few dungeons up until a few days ago. I'm level 35, not too bad for how much I play.
I just got tomahawk so that's handy. I was a little disappoimted to see they went for 'ooh, he's using an axe, better make his pull...er, throw an axe!' rather than some kind of taunting 'over here, asshats!' thing, though. Bit lazy.
I don't see it as lazy. You get a skill like that later, Provoke. Sets your enmity to match whoever has it highest (nice for things like recovering from a near-wipe)
Your dude flips and chucks an axe, how is that lazy lol
There is a skill that has the animation you are looking for though, I want to say it is holmgang but I'm not sure as I don't play Warrior. It drags the enemy to you and binds you and the enemy while making you unable to go under 1 HP temporarily so I think it fits.
Holmgang had the chain added (as well as pulling the mob to you and preventing you from going under 1 HP) in patch... I wanna say it was 2.1.
The chain was always there, most people just didn't notice it because the range was so short before that the chain didn't really stand out. They increased the range and added the immortality effect in 2.1
Here's the notes on what they changed for holmgang in 2.1
Range has been extended from 3y to 6y.
Enemies will now be pulled toward the caster. While under the effect of Holmgang, the caster's HP cannot be reduced to lower than 1. Players can now change the direction they are facing.
