Flashfreeze and Incapacitate: why they should not be related.

This wording has bothered me for awhile-

Incapacitation is an effect that FFXIV has created to determine when a monster's body part has been compromised by dealing a sufficient amount of damage, via specific weapon skills. The result is 1: A weakened monster, and 2: a modified loot table.

"Flashfreeze causes the effect of Incapacitate" is something quite different. Yes, it causes certain monsters some disability, but it in no way modifies the loot table as the other counterparts do. This "alike terminology" can cause a good deal of confusion.

My suggestion: use some wordage from a previous FF title to differentiate the two.

My example would be:
"Flashfreeze causes the effect of Stagger"

In this case, it is still going to imply the monster is weakened, without including the expectation of a modified loot table.

As another person mentioned, it is ambiguous and confusing, like "Sentinel" the class versus "Sentinel" the Gladiator's ability.

needs to be in localization section of the forums.

I would complain that flashfreeze doesn't look like an ice attack instead.

what do you mean it doesn't modify the loot tables? if you mean that it does not allow items to drop off mobs then you are incorrect. i farmed horns off goats for a long time using flashfreeze as my skill. i also know it works on the antelope stags. it breaks horns and allows the drops the same as concussive blow II does.

That's because it also hits horns. It isn't the incapacitation the weapon skill deals. Two different things

Can you clarify what you mean by that a bit for me? Flashfreeze can be aimed at specific areas of mobs relative to the position of the mage, as far as I'm aware. IIRC, using this method, you can sleep a crab, run behind it, and target the rear for a shell-break.

What part of this is different from the Weapon Skill versions, aside from that they are limited to being aimed at the body part associated with that skill? It would be silly if Skull Sunder could break a leg - but, provided you can survive long enough to target, anything can be flash-frozen.

What he means is that the "Incapacitate" message / status effect caused by Flashfreeze is not the same thing as Incapacitating the mob (IE: Permanently breaking a body part), but both effects share the same name leading to confusion.

Flashfreeze does hit a certain body part and it indeed can cause the "real" incapacitation, but it's not the same thing as the "Incapacitated" status effect also caused by it.

I dunno if you have tried this, but Flashfreeze / II actually DOES incapacitate a target. Try it on a skeleton, it'll knock his block right off.

What I believe he is referring to is the Buffalo, it will bring the buffalo to his knees making him not attack, but it will not break the buffalo's horns, allowing the horn and lance/axe head to drop. Another solution is allowing Flashfreeze to break the buffalo's horns.

Flashfreeze broking parts would be really overpowered, at least as it now. A really low chance to break parts could be fine

Yeah it's a little confusing, the debuff from flashfreeze can knock the buffalo down which is the same as incapping his legs (Lancer skewer can knock him over i've heard) yet i've only actually seen flashfreeze incap heads (skeleton heads, horns etc) - Buffalo horns are different though, they are under Other (Right) and Other (Left).

Flashfreeze can deal damage to any part of the body, but it is driven by the mage's position in relation to the mob.

not sure how, it has just as much a chance to be resisted as say Twisting Vice has a chance to miss, also the side it hits is relevant to where the mage is so not like its AoE will effect both horns.
