Broken Wards (again <.>)

Please fix the wards; by stopping the crashes you've only created another problem - the wards are now full and a lot of people can't put up their retainers.

It was short-sighted not to already have a system in place that periodically wipes the wards (1-2 times a week) and / or kicks retainers with empty bazaars.

I've just walked through the every ward in Ul'dah and the amount of retainers with nothing for sale is ridiculous. People quit / go inactive and don't take retainers down. Please fix!

Solution: scrap the physically rendered retainers and zones, move to a text/menu based interface.

Agree'd.

But as I mentioned, the dev. team should have picked up on it - the problems that would have arised without the wards wiping was an obvious one, even to unobservant people like me!

In short, just give us an auction house already lmao.

Considering how bad the wards are now just imagine how it'll be if people actually play again. It may take more than just optimizing.

I noticed this too unfortunately. So I just stuck my retainer in Limsa -- we shall see how that goes, lol. I remember many months ago I could leave my retainer in any city's market, and I could find stuff I needed in any city as well. So I find it kind of funny that overcrowded wards (but not dens or rows!) are an issue now. :p

The wards resetting ever so often and/or booting retainers after a certain amount of time could be a good thing, I think. What annoyed me so much was that the resets were random so you never knew when your retainer would need to be summoned again.

In the case of the XIV dev team, you're right. Rather than really address the issue, they'd give us a half-baked fix like this that doesn't address the fundamental problems that were the issues.

No... I don't think so.

Put a 72hr time limit on retainers and call it good! :P

They don't need a ward reset.

What they need is to completely kill off the idea of housing retainers in a physical location (at least in a capital city). Trying to cram an entire server population's retainers into a few areas results in nothing but issues for both the servers and the players.

I propose retainers to not be actually physically housed when you place them in a capital city (and put in place a means to directly purchase an item from the item search list), and also allow for a non-absurd amount of retainers to be placed at aetheryte camps for a set amount of time (limited to one retainer per account at a given camp).

people seem to forget the main reason for the over crowding...... it is not SEs fault that players dont want to place their retainers in other cities. SE has made comments about that though and already said they are finding ways to fix it.

I still doubt this method is going to work if the servers ever get more than 2000 players (which is considered low for any MMO), regardless of how many tweaks they give it. Imagine that with 2000 players, they're going to need to support at a minimum 4000 retainers.

well yeah it still needs work, the "spreading" idea wont fix it alone. But it is one of the main factors, at the moment anyway.

You know the only "fix" is to just toss more hardware at it, right? Which isn't really feasible or wise.

Just make it an AH please enough devtime has already been wasted on this disaster that keeps this game from having a stable economy.

I mean, really, why not create a true, bustling market system insteaf of this pathetic imitation that is rampant with flaws. Just let people put up stands in the streets or build shops and villages or something.

that idea has been shot down 50+ times already...... yes lets take a lag problem that is isolated in one zone, and move it into the city where even more people are running and doing things... yeah that's a great idea. *rolls eyes*

I like that street marketplace idea but I'm not sure there's enough physical room for them with how the cities are now. I like the whole "rent a stand and decorate it" thing we have that could be expanded on in the future. The problem will only get worse if this game manages to bring in many players. I really do like the concepts behind retainers and market wards though so I would like to see what things they have in store before they think about getting rid of them.

Actually thinking about it now, maybe a gigantic area specifically for this purpose is part of the city redesign? Huge shopping mall/districts type areas?

hmm how about give each ward some floors, that way it can be say spellcaster ward with 4-5 floors that you can take with an elevator.

also listing the floor to which that retainer is in the search window. it keeps each ward instanced so you wont have an expanded area with a ton of retainers, well maybe increase it a lil bit to add more stands.

something more drastic would be that you can only have 1 retainer selling items at a time.

IMO, the most satisfying system to both players and economy stresses would be a central auction house in Ishgard with representative hubs linking to it in all three cities, and then leave the wards as they are (Sunday JPN Midnight Resets) in case people want to run Rolanberry Markets style afk-bazaars. I, for one, know that I'd use both rather frequently, so I'm definitely not choosing sides on this issue.

If both were in place, with each having their own set of standards/regulations for listing items (Stack required? Tax rate? Listing time? True Auction or Sales Listing? Etc etc etc) - I think they'd be a great complementary balance to one another.

I will bet you all my gils(40mil). If SE willing to link all three wards together, Uldah's Ward Full issue will be resolved.

If I can hardly summon my retainer in wards now, what about if/when population rises after patches or PS3 release?

How would this work btw? i would be in Uldah market and search for a item and be teleported to Limsa's market ? could i then be able to come out to Limsa's street lol? cause that would be a lame way to travel between citys xD
Or if i wanted to come out i would always be teleported to to Uldah's streets? seems kinda weird in practice since ur physicly going to the retairners in a diferent part of the world, i would rather they made the text based interface if u buy from another city and the item would be delivered to my mog house or some... oh yea.... i miss my mog house T_T

I would imagine in a similar way that XI's chocobo racing arena works

I will say this again, its because everyone wants to spam BW leves, its the only real reason to stay in uldah all the time, SE didnt intend for us to do this, they wanted us to spread out between all cities, if we did that we would have no problem with the wards.

SE added the feature to re obtain failed leves because in the alpha and beta people were DCin and loosing leves completly, I know this cos I had to put up with it, then people started exploiting it at nophicas wells and BW so they never move from uldah, this is why Yoshi-P wants us to spread out. When people spread out if the next few patches go to plan it will be more viable to set up shop in LL and gridania, and the problem should disapear

sell your item in available ward, not a full one.

Btw, you need to complain again after patch 1.18 cuz they increase 1 more retainer for everyone and people who create 8 char will have 24 retainers to put in the ward lol..

I would definatly welcome this Idea, don't put retainers in the current city zone. Put them in a new LARGE market area, Fill this area with small shops and stands that need to be rented out. It could be a huge gil sink in the game and spread out the retainers. Every retainer must be either a full shop or pre-designated stand. The bigger your shop the more rent you need to pay. Break this area into the different wards but on the same map and indicate the districts on the map. Have A telelporter taru at the beginning to tele you to the different area's so you don't have to walk as far. Maintain the same search function as a sort of customer service desk so you can find the item you want, indicate it on the map, teleport to the area and grab your item. Also support the ability to identify more then one item at a time.

it's all clear in my head and I think such a system would really bring the DoH to life!

Just started playing again, can't sell shit. Awesome.

Any reason why we don't just implement Auction Houses and abandon this pathetic idea of NPC retainers for Market Wards? I mean come on, it worked before...now more than half the population doesn't know how to shop for gear effectively...

Also, if they make stands mandatory to sell stuff and have it cost gil to maintain a stand, it could take some gil out of the economy and rotate people out of the wards. The price could start off really low so that new players can sell things but would rise exponentially every day you keep the spot so the player has to decide if its worth it to keep it or just let the time run out. There would have to be limits in place so that people can't cancel a lease then renew the stand and keep the price low. Maybe you can't rent a stand for a day when a lease runs out.

People should never be locked out of the market, no matter how short a time frame we're talking. Taxes are fine; up-front charges/deposits are fine; pretty much anything that isn't locking people out of the market is fine. Players should never think "Gee, sure sucks that I'm at 330/330 inventory. Too bad I can't sell anything in the market."

Or, they could just make an FFXIV version of FFXI's AH...I mean...really. Problem solved.

If players were evenly split in all 3 major cities, there would be more room to place retainers. The problem's still there though. XIV's player base is incredibly small. The people who designed the MW system must have forgotten about limitations unless they knew their player base would remain ridiculously small, and that's negative thinking early on in development and I'm guessing the true story is they didn't think it through.

Away with the MW system, it's EXACTLY what the auction house in FFXI is, except it adds unnecessary and complicated steps to what can easily be accomplished via a simple UI menu.

And the fact that the ward system has made it practically impossible for all players to have an equal chance at trying to sell stuff

Or, maybe, they can just make a menu/text based system that's simple, easy to use, user friendly, and doesn't have a million drawbacks or limits.

Why does everything have to be so complicated? Why does everything have to have a drawback (or a dozen)? Are you guys masochists?
