Now that Stamina is gone.. Surge Discussion!?

OK, so now the stamina is gone, and Surges are in a spot light, esp Speed Surge, but i'm pretty sure the recast for the surges going to be increased as well. Will they nerf this in any way?

Since Speed Surge used to increase stamina, and now it ill directly impact "haste" of attacks, i see Speed Surge becoming more useful, since also it being the only haste move in game at the moment.

Anyone think this will affect Lancer/Dragon Knight(i like this name better :P) in anyway? make it a more useful DD over the others or will it be nerf'd?

I know this is early for speculation but have at it! Class forums are quiet anyways :P!

Not sure if you ever played FFXI. But one of the last jobs they added, dancer, had personal buffs that inflicted a debuff on the mob, that then gave a buff to every player who then hit the mob while they had the debuff on. Very similar to speed surge.

I see speed surge doing essentially the same thing, so the lowered attack duration may not be a personal buff only, but it may put lancer into a pseudo support role, in that whichever surge they have will benefit everyone in the group.

They may just get rid of it too. >.< They were talking about changing around skills and abilities.

They aren't getting rid of it. They already stated, "Speed Surge will affect auto-attack delay instead of the stamina gauge."

I don't actually thing there will be a huge difference between the current speed surge and the post-patch speed surge. Tp will build at the same rate. The only difference is that speed surge will affect only the auto attack delay after the patch. Currently it affects all of your skills to an extent because the stamina gauge is used globally. Overall I don't think there will be a very noticeable difference.

Sorry, I wasn't aware that there was already an official statement on it.

I dont think they will nerf the recast of it too much, tbh auto attack is already a pseudo nerf, because speed surge 2 gave so much haste I could attack none stop, but worse case I could see it giving less haste than it does with the stamina guage

I think it will make us one of the most sought after party members personally, we are already the second highest physical DDs, have the best TP skill in the game, we are the best support class for TP management, and now we will be adding haste to the party. I can see Lancer/Dragoon being a must in serious parties.

Speed Surge never affected the party in terms of stamina regeneration. The only thing that party members benefitted from was the partial healing that it gave on attacks. We never affected the party's stamina regen.

Only the Lancer that used speed surge got increased stamina regeneration.

You Know I thought that as well but I have been told otherwise that the speed boost does in fact share across the party by multiple people, the speed boost is minor enough that is difficult to tell and i have never tested it myself. Though here is to hoping it is party wide.

honestly,im glad its a lancer only ability...maybe im just selfish.I honestly leveled lancer up for that exact reason and it is why it is my main lol.i knew auto attack would be implimented some day and that no other class had haste..lancer was the only way to go.

Ouch. /frown. Happy that Speed Surge is in fact being thrown at Attack Delay.

well is not like is restrict to Lancer class only, so having it on your other class may benefit it as well :)

Not sure what you're referring to, but if it's Speed Surge, than yes, it is a Lancer-only ability.

Yeah twisting vice was by far the best skill in game, wonder if it still drains any TP? if so it will still serve as a Weapon skill interrupt and moonrise II will become more useful.

Haste... yummm.

I used to differ between Speed Surge and Life Surge depending on the situation I was in, however I have always been partial to Speed Surge.

It still does, or at least the description says so. Previously I believe it completely wipe TP to 0 (Like that gigatoad skill), but now it's more like TP bleed by fixed amount.

Anyone able to tell the difference with speed surge on? using Champions Lance and I really cant tell.

I've always been partial to Life surge; call me crazy I like landing hits. Doomspike II + Life surge does major damage. Plus all your party member's will see the effects of Life surge so overall damage will be increase due to more hits landing.

Would love to see some parsed data on this though; be nice for comparison.
