DRG How do you use 'dem Backflips?

What a lot of drgs don't realize is the full capability of our backflip (elusive jump). It wasn't until one of the drgs in my FC explained to me that elusive jump is not just about enmity reduction, but gap management and maximizing dps.

As an example on Titan ex, right after super bombs, when titan lands in center, everyone stacks south to bait the 5 way landslide. At this point you can backflip over the 5 way and land right behind titan to start the IDC combo. *Credit to Dominus for this one*

What's are some ways you use your backflips?

Elusive Jump back out of AoE, spineshatter back in, tilt the analog stick. It should be stunned long enough for me to land behind the target, setting up Impulse->Disembowel (and Chaos Thrust, once I finally get off my lazy butt and finish leveling DRG)

T6 is very useful,
T8 even more ( not sure if intended :P )

There are many ways it can be used, and like the OP stated, it is VERY under used currently

that would probably be the only time i'd use elusive jump on titan; to get in one last hit before getting away from bombs. i mainly use the backflip to get emnity or slow-effect off me, or to jump off a cliff and not take damage :p i hardly ever use it to escape an aoe because of that .3 sec delay, unless you know the fight completely its not worth trying to use it reflexively imo. definitely useful to get out of briars in t6 when a dive is on cooldown

Elusive Jump out when other people trap me in Leviathan's water weights and the dive is coming at me saving me from a sure death. They're all like omgwtf.

T6/T7/T8 alot of drgs dont know much about T8 and backflipping out of ballistic missile lol, its useful when going for mines and having a random bind on u then u dont have to let your party worry about u :P

Only thing I do not "like" about ballistic and Elusive is that it more then likely, is not intended. It does not remove the bind, and ballistic states that it can not be removed. Since Elusive does not remove the bind, this is why I simply think it is unintended to work, just an over sight.
Add to the fact that it places you out of dps range, it is not always my favorite time to use it.
Normally, I will only when I am out of position to my group, so they do not need to travel to me. Rest of the time, I take care of ballistic like normal, since you can dps and handle the mechanic at the same time.

I've also found that backflips are great on Levi. When Levi goes for the flop, be sure to stand on the water spout side, this will be where his head spawns. As you're sliding down on the flop towards Levi's head, hit him with a phlebotomize, square up to the head, then backflip to the tail which should be coming up just as you land (tail comes up a few seconds after the head). Just be careful not to flip off the edge ;)

I use Elusive on Levi a fair amount, usually to either get to a Spume when I don't have another jump, or after the railings go down and I'm out of position (sure a lot of groups have seen me run towards Levi as he slams and think I'm trying to wipe the party)

I haven't used it a ton in T6, but I haven't had to much yet.

Learning T8 (only started last night) and the best place I can see it right now is when I have to explode a far-off mine and get back quickly.

Dem pro dodges in levi EX.

I use backflips to close gaps. Like if I got all dots on levi tail, I get the impulse on it backflip to head disembowel chaos thrust. Effectively increasing your dps.

Step 1 get to divebombs phase in t5
Step 2 elusive just out of the pit before divebombs start
Step 3 hope you get picked, and if you do don't forget to mark your score card
Hits are 1 point, kills are 2, an immediate wipe due to walling everyone is a strike, subsiquint wipe to snakes due to party compromise is a spare.

Hahaha that is hilarious! I guess it was never specified whether you use backflip for good or evil lol!

Copperbell HM, the Shaft drop after the first boss, if you Elusive off the edge, you land at the bottom with no fall damage. I have trouble using it to escape AOEs because last I checked it doesn't update your position until you land, so you can still get hit by aoes with short cast times even when you are out of the area.

i've used it a couple times on leviathan extreme and once on t9 after positioning the golem rock

I like using it on T9 too. I use it with either of the yellow meteors that go to the left or right of the boss. I can dps the boss, backflip right to wall, drop meteor, then ssd right back... almost zero loss in dps.

Always backflip on ifrit ex's eruption for lols

To jump off the edge when wiping on Titan. I was complimented once on the elegance of my backflip.

That used to be so fun. Then they changed it so you rebound off an invisible wall and find yourself in the middle of the arena unless you are right on the edge...

I know this thread is talking about the positional aspect but since I tossed "evil" out there. You can also use this mid fights to manipulate your hate level within fights. Generally speaking the random aoes as the fights progress are directed more at the lower hate people at the start and shift to the higher hate people over time. You can spike dmg to increase your hate at the start and elusive after the mid-points of fights and pin the majority of the mechanics on the u witting brd. Not that i would do that....

300 seconds cool down is to long for this wonderful skill. I rather have SE remove the emity lowering ability and bind/heavy removal for a cool down of 30 seconds

Also lets you maintain 100% uptime on a far-end spume if levi's about to slam on the opposite end. Just time it or any of our jumps and you'll cancel levi's slam, just gotta be careful of positioning.

Like a lot of other players, I use it as a general gap closer more than a 'dodge', because dodging while close to the boss would cost me a GCD. Meanwhile, using it to close gaps and letting it serve as a charge helps me out.

Similarly if the bombs spawn directly behind you, keep DPS and elusive jump right before landslide then just move and spines hatter dive back, it looks awesome and keeps DPS TONS. Also, when running from eruptions in Ifrit ex once you see Vulcan burst or whatever it's called to off, elusive jump to Ifrit.

DId that off the leviathan boat once right before we killed it, and I teleported to the otherside of the boat <__<

Elusive jump is decent for getting back to Nael in turn 9 after I've been marked with a comet.

I actually do it the opposite. When I'm targeted with a meteor I'll elusive jump back to the drop spot, then ssd back to boss. Very little loss in dps. Just make sure you line it up right and don't backflip into the wall ;)

if i had a nickle for everytime some dragoon or bard has back flipped into t5 flame wall i'd have 5 dollars.

dps loss when chariot is used, not good. Gotta keep ssd fo dat. But I guess it depend where you tank the boss

I don't often get targeted by meteor so I'll usually save my ssd for iron chariot. But even if I do use it after an elusive jump, you can still dps during iron chariot w/out. Just have to be very quick with in and out of aoes and stack right after. Not ideal, but nevertheless can still be done.
