Can anyone explain me why does high level blacksmith ask for a meld cost when i have all the required equipment to get a meld done. I mean i just purchased 275k worth of materia and a weapon and still i can't find anyone to meld without charging me? Or is it just someone trying to get some cash outta me?

PS: I do have the matter grade 5 (even tho a grade 3 would work for this meld). So maybe i thought matter was expensive, but i even provide everything in order to get this done... *sigh*

He's asking for money for it due to the time he spent levelling up the class, maybe he's asking for more than you're willing to pay, but he's fully within his rights to ask you to pay.
As far as the melds themselves go, make sure the carbonized matter is the same grade as the materia, otherwise the melds will not work. -

First: 275K for Weapon and Materia????? If this was for your Relic Weapon, Sir, you have been fooled.
They have to be at the level of the piece of Armor/Weapon you wanna meld but can also be higher.Quote:

Let's just make it simple. I spend a #@$! ton of money on that stuff (Relic Weapon PLD). I got some Grade 5 matter from a quest. I just wanna be sure i can use those to actually meld the battledance III materia into my Aeolian Scimitar? I didn't really check the price on Matter 3 or 4 but i bet they are just as pricy as anything else that i find on Jenova... But if i ain't got a choice, i'll buy some matter grade that fits with my materia/scimitar.

it started like that everywhere, then more people get 50 smiths and it becomes less of an issue, now most servers will have people doing it for free
fc friends will probably do it free too, if you're not already in one, think about it -

Some crafters will ask for a tip, mainly for their time and the like.
Other crafters, won't ask for one outright.
Nevertheless, it is always nice to tip someone for services rendered, ne?
Ultimately, if you don't want to pay this specific person you can always go and find another who may not ask for a tip. ^^ -

Two weeks ago I saw sbdy shouting in Gridania to insert Materia (also starting with Relic quest). I replied and 1st thing he asked me was how much I want. I answered with "a Thank you is enough" and he was so glad because it turned out that it was his 1st char and he scraped almost all the GIL together he had to get the weapon and the Materias. The extra tip most wanted (50k to 100k) was more than he had and he told me he was shouting since two hours already. It took me under a minute to make him happy. That's more worth than a tip for something that doesn't cost me anything but a small tiny bit of my time. -

Generally it's a nice thing to give a tip. I will admit I don't ask for one but feel a little miffed if someone doesn't give a tip when I do a meld for them. I'd say 2k~5k is a nice amount really.
50k is ridiculous. -

Offering a bit of a tip is a nice courtesy to thank them for thier time, and for being willing to interrupt whatever activities of their own they have at the time in order to come do a meld for you. But if you're providing all the materials, then anyone asking 50K is gouging. It doesn't take all that much of their time, after all.

I don't ever ask for a tip for melds so I take whatever someone is willing to offer. I have other people that will offer me money to craft x amount of HQ levequest turn-ins but that's kind of a different situation since it requires a bit more of a time commitment.

To be honest, it depends on the crafter. I normally allow the people to decide if they want to tip me or not other than that I never ask them to or even mention it but once again it completely depends on the crafter.
Some people charge per melds or some just won't charge at all. Most the time when I see melders offer to do melds themselves it'd be optional to pay them though. -

Most crafters (that I've met) won't charge for something like that, but everyone appreciates a tip. It's not really that it takes any time at all, but it might be a slight interruption and you're taking advantage of a utility that only comes from having X crafting class at 50. A token reward is more than sufficient fo rregular melding.

Well... another thing that I am wondering is.... isn't Jenova one of the new servers that was made for ps4 launch? I don't remember if it's one of the servers we had from the start but that could be it too... the server needing time to stabilize the market and demands.

@King, I think to us yeah.... it certainly is overpriced but I remember when people were paying like 30k or over for their relic on the market board to get one with the materia inside of it.
Sadly that's how it is on new servers, there are more than likely less lvl 50 crafters than we have on the other servers right now. So with that said... people are gonna charge what they feel their work is worth, if it's a new crafter and they looked on the market board then saw a weapon for like 50k with melds inside of it, they might try to sponge gil out of other players. >.<
It's sad but thats normally just stuff that people will have to look out for and be careful of till there are more crafters and the market/pricings stable themselves. :( -

I think the most I ever paid was 20k, but that was for the persons time over melding an item. He spent about 15 minutes with me, so that seemed fair.
When I do melds for people, they often ask me what I charge, and I always reply "Nothing :D"
My attitude must be appreciated, because they leave me a tip 90% of the time. Usually 2-5k, and once a very grateful Lala tipped me 20k! I tried to give it back, but he insisted, so I relented.
