Development team says they are always looking for suggestions!

So I think I might have found a way to help the DEV team paint a clearer picture of what their players or potential players REALLY want.

VOTE! Whether you make it an option for players to make their own polls via forums or make a monthly event where players vote and make decisions. This would make life much easier on decision making when it comes to releasing new content.

A statement has been made before that one of the most important things is keeping veteran players interested in the game, but while I'm making this post, I also feel its important to point out that while that is all well and good.

You might also want to think about how to attract more NEW players and turn them into veteran players.

I have seen in Blade & Soul (China) there were surveys people filled out to get in game items (nothing epic). How about sending mail to players that allows them to fill out surveys with multiple choice style answers.

Edit: I meant surveys sent in game, moggle mail.

Considering the game is out for 8 months now i wouldn't really start dividing between veteran and new players yet, unless you count those 1.o players even though it was more or less a different game.

What I really wanna see again is surveys, but i think the develpoment team has planned very far ahead so it's not easy to let players opinion influence the game in a big way.

maybe give weekly polls to let players decide on minor decisions. But how many ppl that play the game actually give suggestions, visit the forums and so on?

Put the polls in game when you first log in.

This is a fundamental truth of any game.

Even if a few thousand players visited the XIV forums, that'd still be an absolutely miniscule proportion of the playerbase, given the game apparently has broken two million subscribers or something like that. But even with, say, small indie titles that are on Steam, that might only sell a few hundred copies or something... even then, only a tiny amount of those players will actually be involved in a forum.

This. SE could add polls to the launcher. Like after you put in your id/Password if there is a maintenance a window pops up, They could just put a poll up.

In my opinion listening to what the community has to say is always a good thing and every game developer should do that, but following or realizing any "dumb" thing the community demand is not what I would call a good thing.

It´s true that out there are some really cool and sometimes even innovative ideas to make the game better or more enjoyable to which most of them I would agree, but also to some I wouldn´t agree even if my life would depend on it.

It would be nice though to have an option to have a little "power" in the decision making which little features (maybe 1-2 per big patch) make it in the next patch.

in the players poll that was in game during 1.0 only 1% stated they ever went to the forums, only 4% ever went to lodestone, and 2% stated they ever read the live letters.

this poll was done via the game launcher and could be skipped if wanted, but it still had a huge amount of replies.

Poll actually might be good idea , those who don't visit forums or don't like may skip , but those who like fourm maybe want this feature .

And this is the reason we should not have this feature.
No source needed, its just understood.
The vocal minority on forums should not have input as to the direction of the game, an in game poll would be much better for that.
