While I know that some people may disagree with me, I feel there needs to be some changes with the Beast Tribes. Primarily speaking, I feel that the amount of effort needed to be put into maxing one out, let alone all of them is disproportionate with the reward received.
It requires roughly one month of work doing dailies -every- day in order to raise a faction from Neutral to Trusted, and as you rank up you are rewarded with crafting goods, dyes, and ultimately some furniture, a mount, and a minion. While the end results are nice, the issue is the price they have on them. 120,000 gil for the mount, 25,000 gil for the minion. These are things that honestly should be given to us for free as a reward for the effort (at the very least the minion).
SE rewards us with minions for far lesser milestones, such as completing a GC hunting log, or completing a story quest arc, or even just some random sidequest in South Shroud. If we are required to buy them, they should have a price tag more akin to the Cherry Bomb, Wayward Hatchling, and Mammet #001 while the mount should only cost 25,000 gil in its place.
I'm not necessarily complaining and whining that things should be handed to me, but it seems slightly unreasonable to me in my own personal opinion that you be forced to labor through daily quests for a month only to then be forced to hand over 145,000 gil to reap the rewards of your labor.
For those of us without max level Disciples of the Hand this is still quite a lot of money to drop on something like this, especially when you consider if you are a collector (like myself) you will end up having to spend 580,000 gil for all current mounts and pets. Presumably 870,000 gil by the time 2.3 launches (assuming that we will have two more tribes to quest for).
tl;dr: The mounts from beast quests are too expensive and should be reduced in price, while the minion should be given as a reward for completing the questline tied to the tribe. Either this or the amount of dailies needed to reach Trusted should be greatly reduced to make up for the enormous cost.

It's five to ten minutes a day doing quests which doesn't add up to a lot of time. Other minions on the Market Boards (Bluebird) would probably cost more of your time to farm the gil than the beast tribe minions require to rank up. People probably spend much more time on less tangible rewards; how many maps have you farmed for a Bluebird? I've personally done upwards of two hundred and only ever seen two.
Agreed on the gil front though. I think the minion and mount should be free. I haven't bought a Goobbue from the Sylphs because I'm not spending 120k on a mount I'll never use. The Drake on the other hand was a sound investment because he rocks. He still shouldn't have cost me a penny though, in my opinion. -

I honestly do not mind the "grind" from Neutral to Trusted, for pretty much the same reason you stated; it's pretty much only 10 minutes out of my day to do. However there are no direct rewards for all of your work to get there, and that is where my issue is. I don't even honestly expect that they make the mount free, though I do feel the minion should be at the very least and the mount should be much, much less. 120,000 should be how much you are required to spend to buy all four current mounts.Quote:

The gil you earn from the dailies themselves over the course of that month gets you 2/3rds (give or take a bit) of the way to affording a given mount.

However my issue is that the gil you earn from the quests should not be tied up in purchasing what should be a reward for getting there, at least not all of it. Seravi said it but I will provide the numbers. Using Kobolds as an example; assuming you are splitting between two tribes, and only doing three quests from one tribe each day.
First level: 360 gil ea * 3 quests = 1080 gil/day * 10 days to rank up = 10800 gil
Second Level: 540 gil ea * 3 quests = 1620 gil/day * 10 days to rank up = 16200 gil

Grand total in ranking up: 54471 gil. this is just shy of half of the mount. This seems reasonable to me, given the fact that the gil fountain doesn't go away after you complete the story quests.
You can completely pay for your mounts doing nothing but those quests, without any real gil loss. -

I've made well over $2 million by running dungeons, greeding loot for seals and selling craft mats, selling things from my ventures, etc. etc.
You can make plenty of money without ever touching a crafting or gathering class. -

Heck, if you only spirit bonded while you did Beastmen Dailies,l I'm fairly certain that that would cover the cost of the mount. -

I think the point I was trying to make with this thread is being missed, so let me reiterate. This is not about there needing to be more ways to make money, or that money is difficult to make in general. This is merely about the fact that you are required to pay for your pot of gold at the end of the rainbow essentially and this just seems very bizarre to me. I am in no way suggesting that the mounts should be made free, on the contrary I do believe that they should be purchased; just at a much lower price. 40-50k gil is more than enough for a mount, and on the other side I do believe that the minions should be a reward for completing that tribe.
Imagine if you were a tank and you did your 200 dungeons, and then at the end of it you got a box that popped up and told you in order to receive your mount you had to pay 120k gil first. People would be furious over that. While the magnitude is not quite the same in this case, I still feel somewhat the same as I would in that situation. -

I don't really see the problem with this. You are building a relationship with the tribe and their vendors offer you more wares based on how much they like you. Achievement rewards (tank mount, paragon robe, ect..) are given as a gift for sharing your tale to the npc in Gridania. Of course if the npc in Gridania asked for money I would pay it too since what else are you going to spend gil on? Besides a house :D

While we do get plenty of gil for these quests (and in-between as well of course), I kinda do agree with the point in OP. It's like you're working for a company, you get your salary - and are told you have to spend it in your own company's stores. Did you get paid then if you're giving your money right back to your company? And while the time spent on these quests is trivial on a daily level, the fact that you have to be doing them for a month (if you do them every day) per faction, only to receive having to do more grinding for your 'reward' in the end... that kind of takes the fun out of it. Also don't forget a) how repetitive the quests are; b) how the XP is lost in most case, since quite a lot of people do them at lv50 because they have no other lv-appropriate class and don't want to lose time waiting to get there; c) while running numbers, please calculate the costs of repairs needed as well, for precision's sake. So yeah, I do think at least lowering the prices sounds justified.

I agree with minions being free like other minions and the mount being 25k.
There's no reason really for it to be more than 50k
You end up paying gil cuz
1) it's a vendor
2) they "trust" you with their mount but will still need something in return as it would have costed some gil to nurture/ make that mount imo lol
3) perhaps it was part of a sneaky plan as they "pay" you after helping them. But eventually they'll hope that you'll buy the mount thus returning that gil u earned lol...
4) it's economically weird that beast tribes use gil, i remembered they use to use certain unique currency?
But if the beastmen give us gil then sure why not.
Also lol at the ppl who made posts about " making gil in 2.2 " in this thread.
