Too Much Tedium, Not Enough Fun

There are some severely annoying aspects to this game that ought be addressed.

Atma farming, it's a dull time sink. If FATE's ever got more interesting (exception Bahamut/Odin), perhaps that would be something. But FATE's in & of themselves are quite dull. Please infuse some interesting mechanics/objectives into some FATE's... make certain ones like legitimate outerworld, dungeon bosses or something.

The world isn't threatening whatsoever, just irritating. Beyond basic circle or cone radii & chain-heavy preventing 'easy' travel through... what threat does the world offer besides a lame chore to rid yourself of the mobs or move in slow- motion past.

This game needs a TON of QoL fixes. A LOT of the systems are poorly coded or ill conceived. Transmutation for instance, so awfully slow & dull. Or GC Expert Delivery, why can't we simply "right click: turn-in". Or not being able to equip our retainers from their inventory. Or being unable to transfer goods from one tab to another without first withdrawal. Or the Menders... my goodness.

Utter tedium, why?

Also the PvP grind / grossly overtuned disparity between win/loss exp/mark reward.

Don't get me wrong, I love this game more than I dislike certain parts of it... it just needs a lot rework imo.

I agree the game is lacking in many QoL features, the whole materia transmute thing is a good example of how console UI holds back the PC interface.

Biggest issue for me which has been one since launch is no EU datacentre, you can't have fights with quick reaction mechanics and have VERY poor netcode as well as high latency, I've given up hoping we will ever get them though.

This game has done pretty well for itself considering where 1.0 was, but 2.3 has left a bad taste in a lot of players mouths and it only takes another game (not necessarily an MMO) to get people to unsub.

Will be interesting to see what happens with the population now that ESO is out and Landmark and Wildstar just around the corner.

No EU data center is pretty ridiculous. They're wealthy enough, it's been a long time since 1.0 released...

Agreed wholeheartedly, we are gods living in a fisher price world of pretty waterfalls and such. This world has no sense of intrigue, adventure or challenge. Everything's in an instance we can get into from the comfort of our FC and soon player housing.

It might as well be just a multiplayer game, FFXIV, nothing "massive" about it.

That's because it's not needed.

Currently situated in Europe with 90-120ms where latency hasn't been an issue after playing both in Ireland and East London.
The only times the connection is an issue is when it's on my end (particularly when East London suffers a high traffic increase Evenings/Weekends).

A friend in Australia is capable of playing the game without issue, so distance isn't the concern, unfortunatley it's the hops in between and a persons ability to compensate for the delay that is causing issues.

(For example a player in Germany in an area with a low quality connection simply isn't able to compensate for the delay, an EU datacentre would only slightly improve this)

Anyone suffering connection issues are most likely suffering an issues between You > Server > You which could be anything between your personal equipment and any of the hops in between.
(An EU data centre MIGHT fix this, but there's a high change it won't)

Another issue is that servers are extremely expensive to set-up and run. Adding in an EU one would take months and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to procure, set-up and test.

Not to mention how few dungeons are partially traversable/visible from the outerworld. I've had so many friends so unimpressed with the game because of the lack of dungeon/environmental in the pre-30's... honestly, I don't blame them.

Sastasha>Tam Tara>Copperbell>Halatali>Toto Rak in sequence is pretty lame. Cave cave "mine" (cave) "keep" (cave) cave indoor manor.

You don't have to get the atma weapon, you can run leviathan ex or second coils for your weapon. Of course if you're another casual player then you may be stuck doing atma because atm it's hard getting a competent group for levi ex (I don't want to lie and join a farming party when I haven't completed it :/).

I do think the game got smaller because of the limitations imposed on levi ex and thornmarch, it would be nice if they released them into actual df sooner rather than later.

Exactly, you do realise there about 10 times more server to server jumps from the UK to Canada than UK to an EU country, not to forget that Europe has better internet infrastructure than America.

Might is better than won't.

That being said a lot of the issues people have with being hit by AoEs is due to SE's poor netcode and positional checks, which is probably never going to get addressed, its just exacerbate by having servers thousands of miles away.

Last time I pinged the EU server it wasn't owned by SE (IWeb Technologies), so chances are they are renting them, so there is very little cost involved outside making sure they run smoothly.

I love the hell out of this game.
