Why keep this UI now?

The next update is finally getting rid of the stamina bar so whats the point of the UI we have right now? Why not bring the simple - and small- battle menu from 11 back?

The only purpose of the new ui is to make joystick users move a LOT more versus keyboard players.

I feel that bringing back the battle menu from 11 would clear the already filled screen.

It always worries me when I read interviews with the dev team and they talk about better mouse integration for the controls...

I have no interest in playing with the mouse, In ffxi I didn't have to touch the mouse ever, And I'd like this game to be the same way.

Agreed... you only needed ONE hand to play 11 with the keyboard... just palce your hand over the numpad and you could do anything and everything.

here you need WASD to move, arrow keys for menu choices, jkli for cameras... its a mess

IMO they should go back to FFXI UI controls. The mouse worked great for those people who still use the mouse, and like was said, you could use one hand on the num pad to do everything for the hardcore gamers. Either way, it was far less complicated, and I dont think anybody had complaints about it. My girlfriend played FFXI ALOT, I am trying to get her into FFXIV but one of her biggest complaints is the UI. Please bring back the simple controls of FFXI SE.

The XI UI was not "simple". Yes the game had better controls than XIV right now, but that is easily fixed by adding key mapping. Like any other modern game these days.

The FFXI UI is the worst if any MMO I've played, well except maybe this laggy POS in XIV.

Yes, let's hide everything under 100 menus instead of making them all accessible from one screen. Absolutely brilliant.

Even a console UI can be done exponentially better. Click a button and tilt the analog pad to a direction of choice to access your skills instead of scrolling down or sideways with the digital pad.

FFXI didn't have a bad UI. It just wasn't the UI from WoW.

And I don't think it needs to be an exact port of the menu system in FFXI, but I want to be able to control character and camera movement with one hand. Numpad/arrow keys.

Furthermore I don't want to need to scroll between action bars to use them. I'd much rather see the action bar be a menu that you populate with your abilities and then are incorporated as macros. And it could be that they add functions for macros not attributed to ctrl or alt, and then add a better macro paging system where ctrl/alt/straight numbers are considered a full macro page which correlates with what the action bar is now, and you can just drag/drop abilities to it, as well as customize them in the macro edit menu.

I've played mouse/keyboard MMOs, and while they are easier to learn initially I don't find them easier to navigate than the FFXI pure keyboard set up. Granted FFXI's controls took longer to get used to, but once you were used to it, it was pretty easy to use.

I'm not saying they need to totally abandon mouse support either... if they are going to implement controller function, it should be no problem to have the keyboard be able to function exactly like a controller, that's what they did in FFXI. They just need to unlock to the arrow keys so we can map camera control to them, and fix target tabbing.

They could do that, and still support and improve mouse controls. That way people could choose their preferred method.

They just need to allow keymapping so that people who want to play with only the keyboard can. (I would much prefer this as well when playing on my laptop.) I think people are mistaken to say they want the UI from XI just so they can play with only the keyboard. lol That's ridiculous.

If they just allow the current UI to have more customization then a lot of the complaining will go away.

I'm hoping and praying that the next update will have some UI fixes in it.

Bottom line is I HAD to get a 360 joystick because playing with the keyboard is a clustermess of annoyance.

You want to move? Sure just keep your hand on WASD keys...oh whats that? you want to change targets? well you sure can! just press tab with your left hands as well. Whats that? you want to select skills? ok ...place your right hand over the arrow keys and move to the skill you want then press enter! or stop moving with your left hand and press the corresponding number on your keyboard! wait..whats that you say? your skill is on another line of skills? ok move your right hand and scroll through the lists then use your left hand to use the skill but you have to stop moving or you cant press it! ok you killed 1 MOB! grats! oh..you cant see where the next mob is huh? ok....umm...oh! stop moving and move to your ijkl keys to move the camera! or just stop being able to select skills and use your right hand to move your mouse to target the mob and move the camera!

ITS A MESS.

Actually quite used to using WASD + mouse - Seems pretty standard for 3D games nowadays.

there is way too many skills for the ffxi menu system to work. scrolling through things with long lists suck, thats why ffxi casters needed macros, by the time you scroll through 30 something skills, you will have wasted massive time, especially now that there is no stamina, you will be wasting a lot of dps/actions since its a cooldown based system.

they need to make 2 UI solutions that cater to the wasd + mouse crowd (i like my controller but if i have a good ui for wasd it works great for me as well) and the controller users. I tried the game with mouse and wasd but the menus, the action bar etc. just doesn't work good, its a bit better with the controller but still not very good.

but i doubt we'll see good changes or 2 different UIs since all SE is doin atm is patchworking and fixing around. And instead of "overhauling" i see minor changes or even better they just scrap things instead of improving them so don't count on it.

I can use WASD and mouse as it works in WoW, or in LotRO. But right now the mouse integration is awful. I'd still prefer the level of control I had in FFXI, which is why I hope that when it comes down to it, we have the choice.

I dont really remember well how it worked for most mages but you could always reorganize spells in whatever way you wanted... at least I could with blue mage.

I like the UI. I just wish the menus would refresh quickly. You can click on anything easily with the mouse, no need for any arrow keys or tab-targetting. Only thing you need is Home and WASD and the mouse (and the "c" key to unlock from targets...).

Also, there IS key mapping available in the game. Go to Config and look for it. I already mapped a bunch of things in (like inventory).

The macros in this game are awesome, much better than FFXI. They're easy to see with the icons you can set on them and have very broad capabilities.
