Potions just plain suck. The NQ ones give like 50 hp. Ethers give bout the same in MP.
The amount is no where near enough to be very viable.
Buff the amount of recovery they produce and I would think they would be more useful.
Its not a supply-side issue. The ingreds arent expensive or troublesome. Potions and ethers just arent needed right now. The game is too easy to justify using potions and ethers. Plus they arent very potent.
I support this. They need to be reasonably priced and set up for wide use.
I think they need to be made viable but not to viable So at least Alchemy can be a good profession in XIV unlike XI.
this is same for FFXI, when I used to play FFXI we hardly used potions, most was ethers for some BCNM or w/e
Being able to use healing items should be standard in any RPG... why does it have to suck this badly no one would want to use? lol Gotta drink 10 potions to cover 500hp... and get hit for 600... w
+3 for complete food & pots revamps.
I think SE have mentioned something about doing this before thou.
When I heard about Alchemist being a full time job I thought potions will be something useful in this game. Boy was I wrong.
Yeah I wish that potions would have more of a use within the game. With cross classing cures and fast MP regen though they are pretty much useless. Maybe if they had meaningful attack, def, acc and so on potions they may be of more use.
Well atleast alchemists have shards:X
Do you think it would cause too many troubles if potions recovered a certain percentage of HP instead of a set amount? Normal is 20%, +1 is 25%, and so on.
Would spamming potions become an issue? If so, then perhaps quaffing a potion could have short cooldown timer, around 10 seconds of so.
I never understood why consumables in the FF MMORPGs are completely underwhelming. In FFXI there were a handful of consumables that were used for zerg attempts and solos, but the majority of potions and what not were completely worthless. FFXIV is even worse because of the current state of the game.
Ideally, I think consumables should not be universal nor items. I think Potions, Ethers, Antidotes, etc. should be "skills" for a unique class that revolves around them. You could design a really cool healer or debuffer type role that solely relies on the classic Final Fantasy items.
They really should be on par with a cure so that DOWs can consider using them instead of using action point for cure/sacrifice.
It would also be nice to make them (or a similar item) usable on party members in much the same fashion as single player rpgs
I know there's always the constant fight about FFXIV shouldn't necessarily be alike to its predecessor, and this kind of falls in that category.
But I would like to say that what FFXI had wasn't potions done wrong. It was simply different then what is mainstream MMO. Rather than making food and potions necessary and almost cheatingly overpowered like they are in many other games. They were balanced to create separate strategies rather than simply being another way to heal. When you used a vile elixer in FFXI your strategy revolved around that vile elixer. Making potions something you simply use as a backup devalues them.
I just really don't like the idea of people relying on potions to stay alive. That's what healers are for, remember class uniqueness. This is a problem especially when you have pvp to think about. Keep that to temporary items or something, I don't want the winner to be who stalked up on more potions.
This pretty much. I only used potions for maat fight. Potions are only good in forced solo areas not for leveling. Most mmo I played potions were not that big. And that is the point. The point of mmo is to do stuff with other players. To have fun aand make friends.
In rectro spec. With fields of valor they made potions from chests really potent. This was to help those who solo.
Planned for either 1.19 or 1.20 I believe.
