For the BLU lovers!

My BLU friends, our dream might be real soon, there is still hope!

It might be a bit farfetched but Yoshi pretty much confirmed that we will get a gun class "soon" after 2.3 and that it won't be the one we all think about.

So i was wondering which one it could be and it became clear ( thanks to my FFX-2 Vita edition).

Yoshi said some times ago he wanted to add blue mage in a not too far future.

Both those fact leads me to believe we'll get the gun mage:

Nothing more than speculation.

Completely speculation, of course. And I wouldn't want BLU to stem from a gun-based weapon class. Too weird for my tastes.

This thread details BLU completely how I'd want it to play out. It's mechanics are brilliant. Plus... a whip. A WHIP. !!

Of course it is, but i mean you're not excited even a bit that maybe we'll be able to play BLU soon?

Would actually be pretty sweet for a gun dancer. I'd still prefer dancer to come off of thief though (dual dagger).

Too FFX-2 and not enough FFT for my tastes.

But if that's what I have to take to get Dancer as a dps instead of a healer I guess I'd settle.

yes as a loyal blu from xi an my fav job in the tactics series, i would be really dissappointed if we dont get a traditional blu, i dont want some hybrid mix-mash monster, same goes for rdm, if it dont come from fencer i will be wtf

I see why the OP is saying this.

Musketeer, conventionally speaking, seems like it would fit the typical mod of ranged damage dealer.

If that is the conventional, and they said that the gun class/jobs would not be what we expected...

What options are there besides a ranged DD?

Tank, Healer, Hybrid

And seeing that 1: hybrids are coming and 2: there is an abundance of DD--

A likely candidate to fit such a description of their's is that of a hybrid role. One who can deal damage and simultaneously boost the party or debuff the enemy, and seeing that the party boost option is already explicitly bard, I see a debuff option more likely.

This doesn't rule out a 2-job system like arcanist, of course. One branch/job could remain a more traditional DD.

I would personally be excited if MSK branched into a dd role for one, and a gunmage/blue mage role for the other.

Depends on what he thinks we all think it's going to be...

Opinion seems to be very much divided on what the jobs stemming from Musketeer (I highly doubt the class is going to be something different) will be.

Many say Corsair because of where the Class will most likely originate from.
Just as Many say Ranger due to the lack of a straight physical ranged DPS.
and then there are the wild speculationists that throw out Dancer/Blue Mage/Gun Mage/Red Mage because of "clues" and out of context quote mining.

at this point, it's safer to just be happy that a Gun Class (obviously Musketeer) is finally being added and try not to read to much into what wasn't actually said, and get your self all keyed up, just to be dissapointed when it wasn't the Job you wanted/earnestly hoped it would be.

persoanally I think We're going to be getting Musketeer, Ranger and "?" but Blue Mage (or something bodged to be like it) or Red Mage I highly doubt, though if I was given to the flights of fancy that much of the speculation works off of, I would lend more credence to Red Mage as the the usual look (at least post XI) of Red Mages iconic "armor" is that of a French Rifleman/Musketeer (the only reason people think of Musketeers as fencers or swordsmen is because of "The Three Musketeers" and a swashbuckling tale doesn't do as well with "And they stood at range and shot at each other with muskets" as it does with daring sword play), and I could finally have at least one Final Fantasy Job that actually looks like what it's namesake actually was...{Rant} Dragoons were mounted infantry, They fought on foot and marched on horseback, they were named for their distinctive Carbine that had a Dragons Head decoration (as one theory goes) at the muzzle and a distinctive heavy saber but never carried a Lance or pike. LANCERS were cavalry that used pikes , saber and pistols, hence the name. dangit.{/Rant}

I prefer claws (think similar to MNK weapons) over a whip or gun.

Musketeer could still be part of it as one of the job branches, but still what class would it start from?

Every guild in FFXIV focuses on a class, not a job. the Musketeer Guild would strongly imply the base xlass is... Musketeer, and the jobs will be using different nomenclature.

Except the 2 1.0 unused guilds never did change names from 1.0 to 2.0, those have remained consistent. Even if the look of the weapon changed at acn. Even though MRD joined MSK in the coral tower.

Problem with Blue Mage is class balance and FFXIV's game mechanics. They're not going to learn ANYTHING from mobs (except maybe pretending to, in cutscenes) and they can only have mostly generic types of spells because real Blue Magic is is overpowered and gimmicky.

And more to do with this topic. I think Musketeer>Blue Mage has always been one of the louder assumptions about what Musketeer might turn into. I mean Corsair is definitely the most expected gun job but there's plenty of X-2 fanboys who've been calling for Gun Mages all this time. I can see Gun Mage as a possibility, but only if it's horribly homogenized into some lame generic support dps and I think support DPS is painfully assumed for the gun job.

I'm only going to feel that it's "not what people were expecting" if they make it a healer or tank or act ridiculous and choose something random and inappropriate like Musketeer>Time Mage

XI managed Blue Mage fairly well, no reason XIV can't achieve the same. While you'd probably end up learning spells in a cutscene, I don't really see how it would be massively different to the old way, either;

Quest: Fight X and take <insert monster ability>. Quest reward: <insert monster ability>.

Only difference is it removes the RNG from the equation, which is a good thing, unless people would rather Blue Mage have to do the equivalent of farming Atma for each ability?

They can even give the Job plenty of spells too, if they're cleaver about it. Summoner already gets extra abilities through its pets, no reason Blue Mage couldn't have a default ability which does various monster abilities based on something like a stance; Vilekin Stance, Cloudkin Stance, etc. In Vilekin Stance, Ability X does Canopy, in Cloudkin Stance is does Blood Drain.

As long as they don't screw Blue Mage over the same way Bard did, it could have plenty of such abilities.

Both of which are more compatible with daggers than guns. please consider making a thread on topic for that rather than derailing here.

As long as they alter the way you get abilities as BLU, its ok with me.

I don't really know how they could implement it in FFXIV but i'm sure they'll find a way!

The jobs quests could unlock the max level of spells you can learn (ie do the lv 40 quest and you can learn lvl 40 skills from enemies).

I think FF11 had terrible class balance. It made some classes too necessary and some classes were a luxury to level because they were just that useless. And even then, there were classes stuck in one ridiculous niche for efficiency. FFXIV has much simpler mechanics that suits a multiplayer environment better, because let's be honest, a lot of Final Fantasy mechanics and gimmick classes only work because they're single player and you control the whole party.

I'm not saying FFXIV can't make Blue Mage, because I can honestly see them working some attempt at the class into the game, I'm just saying the learning is going to be pretend and played out by way of cutscenes and the skills will have to stay simple and realistic. Something like Bad Breath is overpowered without a LOOONG cooldown. They can be creative and extend skills a bit, but having so many effective skills is far too much overpowered utility for one job. Summoners are stuck with some amount of pet dependency to make up for the fact they have pets. Right now, Jobs only add five skills. How many gun-based skills do you expect Musketeers to give up to accommodate Blue Mage better? I can see an FFXIV Blue Mage being added at some point, I just don't see it playing like a Blue Mage, I see it playing like an FFXIV Bard with an alternative gimmick than Bard's refreshing.

I like the idea of Gun Mage, though, and while it wouldn't be implemented as well as FFXI's Blue Mage, it could be possible in this game that certain popular Blue Mage spells could be learned through the Gun Mage's Job quests. Not only that, but they could actually turn a Blue Mage/Gun Mage into a tank or a healer, depending. Maybe have two different "Forms" to go on.

NOTE: Numbers may be way off and cause things to either become overpowered or underpowered. This is just speculation.

Mighty Guard: Tank Stance

Enabled Abilities:

Mighty Guard: Toggle Ability. Reduce all damage taken and dealt by 50%, increase enmity from all attacks by 50%. Additional Effect: When Activated, 30 second cooldown on all abilities, unless you are in town and out of combat.
Lifebreak: Inflict damage to the opponent. The lower your current HP, the greater the damage dealt. 180 second cooldown. Requires Mighty Guard.
Magic Hammer: Inflicts damage with a potency of 120 to target's MP. Additional Effect: Inflicts Silence on target for 5 seconds. 30 second cooldown. Requires Mighty Guard.
Lilliputian Lyric: Inflicts Mini on target for 10 seconds, cutting its physical damage and movement speed by 50% for 5 seconds. Then, inflicts Hammer on target, making it immune to Mini for 60 seconds. 120 second cooldown. Requires Mighty Guard.
Stare: All enemies in melee range currently attacking user become confused for 10 seconds. 60 second cooldown. Requires Mighty Guard.

White Wind: Healer Stance

Enabled Abilities:

White Wind: Toggle Ability. Reduce all damage dealt by 50%. Add half of your current HP to all healing abilities. Additional Effect: When Activated, 30 second cooldown on all abilities, unless you are in town and out of combat.
Angel's Snack: Cures a single detrimental effect from target. Requires White Wind.
Vanish: User vanishes from sight and loses all enmity, cannot generate enmity, and cannot be targeted for an attack for 10 seconds. Additional Effect: When Vanish ends, all previous enmity is restored to user. Cooldown: 180 seconds. Requires White Wind.
Night: Inflicts "Sleep" on the target and all targets in a 5-yalm radius for 30 seconds. Cancels auto-attack upon execution. Requires White Wind.
Auto-Life: Inflicts "Auto-Life" on target. When under the effects of "Auto-Life", target will immediately be resurrected upon HP being reduced to 0. When raised with Auto-Life, target gains two stacks of Weakness and the debuff "Advanced Weakness", which prevents Auto-Life from being used on that target for 30 minutes. Advanced Weakness is not removed upon HP being reduced to 0 and cannot be removed with Esuna or Leeches. Cooldown: 180 seconds. Requires White Wind.

Don't expect the very creative approach when you know SE is be trippin since day 1.
Why does a blm elemental attacks do high-moderate damage on enemies of the same element. (I.e fire on ifrit lol... )
I believe it's cuz it'd make certain skills in certain fights useless.
So SE might make whatever the new gun class's skills all weird and questionable.

though i do like this. the only way i can see it working is if it releases way down the road. kinda like treasures for ff11. too many pets for a 50 cap. i feel like cap needs to go up to 70+ before then.

on topic, we know its not musketeer due to its not what we are expecting and the gun is off hand.

dagger may mean one (or 2) of the four: dnc/thf/nin/rdm

gun i was thinking corsair since gold saucer was mentioned lol im thinking dice main hand/gun off hand?

Gun Mage would be RDM not BLU. It would resumble Squall Leonhart or FFX's incarnation to a degree.

I fully expect a dual wielding Blade/Pistol or Gunblade incarnation of Red Mage.

Well Gun Mage ARE Blue Mage in FFX-2, thats not even questionnable.

- Blue Bullet : Use special bullets powered with enemy skills.

No thanks to a gun wielding blue or red mage... Sword or nothing.

I think they should have an in game event to determine either to put in blue mage or red mage. Each group could recruit potential mages to battle each other in a Red mage vs. blue mage PvP area where you fight for ground or turf. In order to tell who is on your side, and who you would be trying to kill, you could color their gear, you know red for red mages, blue for blue mages. If you don't want to go in as a level 50 class though, you could go in as a lower level and work as sort of a courier where you pick up goods from your base and sell them to NPCs that are stationed on your side's turf that could provide buffs for your side on that piece of ground. The event could last for so long, and the side that has the most turf at the end would win, and that job implemented into the game.

Well there's a problem with that. The way classes work in FFXIV right now is that you equip a weapon type assigned to a specific class, and boom. You are suddenly that class. If two different classes have the same weapon type, how would that work? And I'm pretty sure Blue and Red Mages wouldn't be using even 3/4 of the Gladiator's skills anyway.

You're aware we're getting a dagger class (presumably for Thief/Ninja), while Gladiator has daggers already, right?

Weapon type has absolutely nothing to do with your Class, the weapon does, but just that. They could make a Lance that when equipped puts you on Conjurer. They wouldn't because that would be silly, but they can make a whole host of new swords which put you on, lets say, Fencer.

Case and point, I already have two of the same weapon types which put me on different Jobs; Omnilex and The Veil Of Wiyu. The exact same can, and will be applied for any new Class which reuses a preexisting weapon type.

They really did develop themselves into a corner with the current class/armoury system. There's basically no second job that will work for Pugilist, for example. But as to your question: there would just be new swords with a fundamental category of, say, "Mystic Knight's Arm" that would distinguish it from Gladiator's Arms even though they were both swords in form.

To build on this, these are both "Arcanist's Grimoires" that build on the ACN job and then rely on a job stone.
