The problem with content lockouts

I thought I would never run into this issue because I am in a great FC, and we get along fantastic. We had a static going strong, downed t5 before echos and worked on it for a long time. The new coil came out and our group began t6. And this is where the problems begin.

Some of our members dropped our raid to play with other friends in coil who are on t7 and 8, solely because they have to choose which friends they play with. These static parties are really hard to keep going in a game that's based on socialization because people meet people and want to play with them and their old friends.

So these people have to make the choices of which static they want to play with. Why can't we just have the gear locked and not the content? Friends just want to play with friends in the newer content and not wait for it to be on duty finder with no lockouts like old coil.

So because 1-2 go play with other friends, others start to splinter off and then your left with 3 people in the static...and the week prior you had a full 8 people. I'm pretty bummed about this and have not logged on to play since Tuesday ...and have no desire or motivation to do so.

I agree make it a gear lockout like CT. That way you can run/practice anytime you want. :)

The reason they don't make it a gear lockout like CT is to prevent people from selling carries in the current highest tier of progression content.

I think there are other problems that could arise if they changed it to a CT-style loot lockout - I don't know if I'd consider those problems to be worse than the problems with the current system, but they would definitely exist.

What I can't see a problem with would be allowing people unlimited access to a version of each Coil turn that has no lockout, but also no loot, period. While that wouldn't solve the problem of a Coil static needing to consist of exactly eight players (no more, no less), it would allow people to play with their friends outside of a static instead of needing to essentially just leave them behind, and it would allow an experienced static group to teach fights to other friends or FC members without compromising the progression of their static party - and since a player who knows and is experienced with a fight has a much easier time finding a proper static party of their own in the first place, it would increase the pool of players who are actually participating in Coil content, which benefits the entire game, and the entire community.

It really sucks to have to tell your friends "No, I can't play with you in any place that actually matters in this game."

that reason is stupid as you shouldn't solved your business problem by burdening your customers

Before CT came out, people asked for a CT style lock out... then CT came out and people complained.

The problem isn't really the lockout system, as this is present in other successful MMOs. The main problem is the dearth of non-coil content - if you had 4+ raids a week all with distinct lockout timers, it would not be a problem (as well as other endgame non-raid content that wasn't faceroll).

I like my coil just the way it is thanks. You'll get to do it as much as you want via DF eventually.

I have to agree, too. This is the main reason, why ppl are argueing in our FC ;_; At Start of the Game we had almost had no probs...but when reaching the endgame, coil, the fights began. Some ppl cant get a group inside the FC...the others with groups cant go with them :( Friends get left behind. Newcomers to the fc are having a hard time, too. Or RL friends who start the Game cuz of u. "Great! U are in FF! But sorry i cant play with u...i have a static" :(
One of static has to work...others upsad.
One of the static is sick...others upsad.
One of the static is off to the cinema...others upsad.
Etc etc.... Its not that we wanna run coil every day... Hell no! But sometimes we cant find one Date in a week. This causes frustation. And it would just be nice to fill the group with others from fc...but oh well. We all know what happens then. We have a group of 12 in one static in our fc...to mix around when someone cant play. But this is causing new probs, too. And is ALOT of organization. Again frustration :/

Some ppl left the FC allready because of this...they hope to find statics in another FC... Sad...so so sad.

Forcing players into statics is never a good thing. 4 isn't as bad but 8 for a casual game is tough.

NO! I do NOT want to see coil gear hitting the floor because people don't want to waste their lot for the week. By time you are beating turn 9 you've been beating multiple turns per week for weeks. A loot lockout would be terrible.

You don't need a static group for casual content in this game. Or do you mean that coil 6-9 is casual content?

I don't mind if they create a "training room" of sorts where people can just go in and play on any content with whoever without restrictions and any drops. That's to teach/help FC/friends/etc.

Someone necro'd it not long ago but there is a huge thread dated back to about september/october last year where someone was complaining about the exact same thing.

What I'm saying is that it is a non-negotiable part of the raid design, it is never going to change so your options are to complain impotently for another half a year or deal with it.

If you think about all coil and extremes are pretty casual content. Everything is just a boss fight it's just setting up a static is the hardcore part.

Unless of course your definition of casual is wanting handouts and easy mode then yeah it's not casual.

DC Universe Online has a system where the content is not locked out, but gear does. It works awesome. It breaks the mold of the typical thinking that "raids need content locks". Why should we have to wait for the content to become "old content". Just to play it with our friends..who will be sick of it by then? Why are we forced into statics? As another posters sad...you got 2 statics in an. FC. 1-2 people from each has real life stuff...both groups now have to either cancel, find a pug that may or may not be up to speed, or steal another statics group...which causes the same problems again, but with a different group of people.

Small server, everyone else stuck in statics that aren't working too well but don't want to leave them. The ones that succeed are the ones that play 24/7. Your server is a Legacy, I assume plenty of hardcore players :).

No, replace and move on. Find people who want to do the content enough they show up. I don't know what's hardcore about that.

pretty much this, if people want to do it, they will find a way to make it happen

needless to say 2.2 killed my static, i even started a thread about it a week before it launched

Sure...Lol. Its easy to find enough ppl or replacements. Thats not the Point. This System makes it hard to play with friends...specially with many and different friends and FC mates. Its kinda forcing a discission from u. But w/e...this discussion will never end and there will allways be ppl who say "Bla bla all ur own fault, bla bla bla why u wanna play with friends...go with pugs...bla bla bla ur fault that u cant play 24/7" ;)

Pretty much. You just got coil1, so work on that and sit tight. When we're done with 2, you can have it.

I kind of wish there was a way to play with my various friends in the current coil, even after getting locked out...but unfortunately, it's just how things work with the new content. If I clear a turn with my FC static early in the reset week, then I can't help out my friends who may wish to take a stab at it. In the end, everything kind of relies on the people you play with and their priorities with the game...do they want to clear content at the same pace and progression? The first coil was easy enough to pug and try to get loot, but this coil is completely different and very reliant on having a static (especially with splitting all the tomes and stuff that comes in turn 7+).
