Weird gate near the gate of Thal in central thanalan?

Heyo people,

I've been running past this gate a lot of time since the very first day I logged in... And the more I see it the more I wonder where it leads, it doesn't have any name, there is no talking npc, only two guards and I absolutely can't recall seeing this in V1 (yes the map kinda changed but most of the changes are scale and less copy pasta, all landmarks remained, and this is definitely some weird landmark, not to mention the fact that I only played for a little time since I didn't had the money to play it back then so my memory is kinda fuzzy.

Anyway, This is the gate I'm talking about

At first I thought it was a way to the goblet that isn't opened but when I went there.. There's no such way only closed roads that leads to unused estate grounds.

So where the hell does this gate leads to? O.o

Does anyone from v1 remember seeing such gate? Or is it some ninja added content for ARR?

It wasn't in 1.0, but based on where it's located it might be something meant to block off Sil'dih, which was located south of where Ul'dah is.

There's a few places in game that are kinda just there and are blocking off supposedly future areas, such as Griffin's Crossing in Coerthas. (there's a lot of the original Coerthas from 1.0 missing in this game)

That I know for the crossing, but at least the crossing have some Npc that explains it (I still don't understand how the hell we get from north shroud to coerthas trough a way that previously was a huge mountain wall and now some nice little road near the river xD)

Same for the road the used to lead to the west part of coerthas they also explained it but this one door...
Fun fact, there's a stone bridge that leads int he same direction the door leads to in southern thanalan (right under the forgotten springs)
We can't access it due to some magical invisible wall but the rope/fence that surrounds it clearly shows that it's a bridge..

Wait a sec.. Wasn't the underground road toward the sildih ruins supposed to be north of the nald gate?
I know the the ruin itself is located in sagolii but we can't access in ATM, we can only walk a tiny bit of the desert (there's also some obvious path that lead toward the rest of the desert but blocked by an huge boulder)
But would it be dangerous to have the gate to lock away sildih just by the town gates?

There is also a gate in Gridania near the Lancer's guild, which I can only theorize is the road to Ala Mhigo.

That gate in Old Gridania has been inaccessible since 1.0 even.

I was theorizing that they might have been planned to be extra entrances and exits to the residential areas, as the Goblet, Lavender Beds and Mist have apparent paths and gates that are locked and don't appear to go anywhere, but SE just never bothered implementing them. MMOs often have dummied entrances like this included as a form of 'futureproofing' for additional new content anyway, as Orophin mentioned, but usually they never end up being used (like the Red Otter Gate onto the Jadeite Flood under the Carline Canopy in Gridania was always listed there even in 1.0, and still isn't accessible).

Don't lose hope, oh hero! It could be. Believe that it WILL BE, and it may be so! I hope, so dearly, that all the gates that are today closed are tomorrow opened!

It's hard to tell what content will and won't eventually be used, sadly, but given the lore around the Thanalan city-states it's reasonable to hold out hope.

Wasn't the black boar gate supposed to lead to the lily garden area that got deleted? (Not sure if the name is accurate tho)

Lily Garden was where all the rich punks lived? In which case, it might not have been deleted, I think they put another gate in front of it. I believe it's where the NPC for Haukke Manor sits, when you have to talk to the crazy old dude?

By deleted I meant that the area is no longer accessible.
Is that so? I should check it out then ^^

That entire connecting area was blasted by Bahamut, though the damage is most obvious from the Shroud-side. So that's why it's passable now.

Ala Mhigo lies east of Gridania. The road to it is most likely the road that currently exists in Larkscall (East Shroud). Next time you do the Wrench in the Works FATE just keep going east and follow the road, there's an invisible wall blocking it off, but you can clearly see it curve around the bend and keep going into the distance.
