Gazing into Grimoires Galore

Greetings, grimoire worms!

With the amount of time spent in front of grimoires as arcanist, summoner, and scholar you may have thought to yourself, "Every grimoire seems to have the same content--I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!" Well, this isn't exactly the case and I'd like to drop a bit of knowledge about this that I read in a book (okay I lied it's from the Lore Team!).

That's neat. I kinda wonder what they actually say, though, the grimoires.

I'm find it interesting that Arcanists write into their grimoires. You'd think they'd run out of pages, though it's probably magic ink.

so what kind of tactics are in the scholar's moogle book? Or the primal ones?

From what I can tell, it seems to be gibberish. I spent quite a while staring at the contents of the Ars Notoria (iirc) and an Eorzean font chart trying to decipher it and got nowhere.

My grimoore is a Hentai <3

Does anyone else find it interesting that you wield your grimoire with your right hand, but write in it with your left? It seems every single arcanist is left-handed.

What I've long noticed is that arcanist grimoires had geometric patterns, while scholar grimoires are full of squiggly text. Never noticed any differences in summoner grimoires though. Cool to know there's a reason for the distinctions. :)

it would be nice it they could add that too. i love the casting incantations before the spells goes off... i guess macros are the only way to go

I think there's actually a second "gibberish font" SE uses at certain levels.

There are sections of the Map of Eorzea that feature the same anomalous, nonsensical symbols as the books.

Wasted many an hour...

Or maybe durability is how many pages are left in the book. When you go repair it, they just remove the old ones and bind new ones!

Ohhh, this is interesting! I never put that together when looking at how some of my sch books seemed to be different. Gonna have to bother my summoner friend to show me his smn books' pages now!

But now the next big question...

If the SMN/SCH tomes lack the geometric shapes seen in the ACN tomes, how do we manage to still cast the ACN spells?

I find it interesting that the Scholar relic (and the level 50 Immortal Flames book) actually look like illuminated manuscripts written in Eorzean gibberish (though considerably less colorful than manuscripts). It really gives it an interesting and rather old feel.

I haven't particularly looked at the summoner books, but I have one from Stone Vigil that actually has reverse colors, white text on black background (there's your Deathnote, Samael). It'd be pretty interesting to see pictures of tomes and compare them, see how much of a difference there are between distinct tomes (like dungeon drops, special books only goldsmiths can make, company books, and relics)

I noticed that and used it to my roleplay advantage by making it important to my character's backstory. ^_^

Sorry to bump this thread, but I remembered seeing this thread from a while ago, and was reminded of it after hearing the talk about glyphs in the recent post-E3 gamerescape Fernehalwes interview. After getting my SMN relic I had taken this screenshot of the inside:

The text definitely isn't standard Eorzean font, but I'm also curious about the drawings:n the right-hand page there's that circle that I'm guessing could either be a summoning pentagram or some kind of Vitruvian man/chi-esque aetherflow diagram, and above that the three arrows look kind of like Halone's symbol (though I'm not sure what she would have to do with summoning)...

It would be the diagrams related to summoning ebi primals, as Camate so helpfully mentioned the Lore Team mentioning. The triangles may be deltas.

This reminds me of the flavor text from an MtG card, where this person would write in their grimoire till the all the pages were black, then they would go and write in white, and repeat the process over again
